ATP - GERRY WEBER OPEN, HALLE

Dear fans

I am sorry to announce that I have decided to withdraw from this week's Gerry Weber Open in Halle, Germany.

I sincerely apologize to the tournament organizers, my competitors, and my fans in Germany. I only hope they will understand that I still feel emotionally overwhelmed and exhausted by the incredible events of the past few days. It is hard for me to admit, but I simply cannot imagine giving my best effort in another tournament right away and I don't want to risk injury if I am not 100% prepared. I need to rest and recuperate.

I look forward to returning to Halle in 2010 to go for my sixth title. It is one of my favorite events on the ATP World Tour.

I also want to thank all of you for your unbelievable support these past two weeks. You are the best, and you helped me make a dream come true.

okay, Fair enough. A little late, but I can totally understand. if you've just made such a mentally exhausting tournament to a great end, and it's your biggest dream left in tennis coming true, you are not gonna be well-prepared for a tournament like Halle, with all respect.

I think it's an honest announcement and for a small tournament like Halle, their fans of course have been extremely lucky already that Federer decided to play there so many times.

Not looking good right now for Viktor Zagore..

No not good at all,he lost something like 6 games in a row.For a guy with a big serve like Viktor it's terrible.Well atleast Fed withdraw from Halle so that's one obstacle less for Novak there.I honestly think that if Novak won Halle it would do wonders for his confidence before Wimbledon.

Novak should have had great confidence before Roland Garros, look what happened there. The guy can play great tennis but he just really lacks a plan B and the ability to scrape it out in ugly fashion when he's playing bad tennis on the day.

Compared to guys like Federer and Nadal at least

I think Novak was low on confidence before FO this year, that loss to Nadal in Madrid killed him.But yeah Novak isn't as complete a player as Nadal or Fed but who is? It's not a knock on him.

Tsonga vs Haas tomorrow, I'm definitely looking forward to that. Hoping for a good Jo win, but Tommy's been in some good form of late!

no idea for time but I believe it's the last match on the centre court so I'd imagine fairly late in the day

this is the result that really knocks me for a loop today!

remember when petzschner went on that tear some months ago? when he came from qualifier to win the title? it was in vienna and he beat, among others, S.Wawrinka, J.Hernych, C.Moya, F.Lopez, and G.Monfils.

So could someone please give Federer's 62 votes to Novak Djokovic.

kinda makes me wonder whether the corporation and the tournament organizers knew and just didnt tell anyone because they were afraid ticket sales would drop, or whether federer just didnt tell them. i do wonder because from the first day people on this very thread seemed to have a clue that feder was not going to show up for Halle, but i kept checking, and the website was selling tickets, claiming that federer would play a qualifer in the first round and showing federer in the official draw.

either way, I wonder how many people bought tickets after roger won roland garros on sunday and all day monday in the belief that roger would be playing Halle?:(
