Handle vibration with the new Blade 98 CV

Semi-Pro
Just picked up 3 new CV Blade 98 18x20s. I'm getting a heavy vibration from one in the handle. The other two are ok. I've popped the handle and looked at the grip and frame. No cracks, nothing out of the ordinary. All three look and feel the same... everything seems to be in order. Any ideas or suggestions as to why?

Check that the tails on the tie offs are not touching the frame. Are the frames using same string and tension? Sometimes the string bed vibrates at the frame's resonant frequency. A foam peanut inside handle will take cae of this.

Every frame is strung the same. Knots aren't touching frame. I'm going to change the strings and I'll try the foam in the handle idea. Thanks.

I once had a Wilson KSix One 95 that had a heavy vibration in the handle. Wilson uses metal pieces to fine tune weight at times, either molded into the handle or glued inside the hairpin. My particular racquet had it inside the hairpin. I removed it (with a fair amount of difficulty) and the vibration went away. I re-secured it with a quick set urethane adhesive and problem solved. No way would I do it again but I was up for a one time experiment. I'm not sure if they use that weighting scheme for the new models or not but maybe you could run a heavy magnet along the handle for signs of a metal weight.

I thought the Countervail rackets were supposed to have 30% less vibration. Take it back.

EDIT: Countervailing is supposed to offset the effect of something by countering it with something of equal force. Maybe you have a broken countervailer, have you tried to replace the countervailer? LOL

I opened up the trap door on a Blade with this problem and just used the adhesive to firm up the weight's bond to the frame.

Ha. I will try to order a replacement countervailer and if not, I'll have to insert a textreme replacement widget.

Not sure that Wilson has made spare Countervailers available to the public. Wilson has heard a rumor that Arthur Slugworth is trying to find out how they are made so he can some some Low Cost Counterfeit China Countervailers (LCCCCs) made up and flood the market with them.

Or just sell it here on TT ;)

The handle does not have traditional "hard" foam. It has light dense foam almost like you would find for shipping items. It's a cross between carpet padding and packaging foam. Very light. I'm probably going to pull it out and replace with silicon putty.

Tried a 2015 Blade 18x20 which had a very bad vibration through the handle as well. Never experienced that with other racquets while testing/demoing, sent it back as it felt defective.

Are the handles of the Blades foam filled?

If the handles are foam filled I doubt that it's some thing in the handle rattling. But that's just a guess. Unless of course if it's the foam causing the vibration, and I'm guessing it isn't.

EDIT: If the handle is foam filled the hoop probably is too so you may have a string buzz for some reason. Have you checked for a missweave? The only other thing I can think of is the trap door, try taking the trap door off and hitting with it.

I would not do that. If you find you have to return it you may not be able tonwith any mods. wilson may claim what you did caused the problem. Wilson's guarantee is for defects in material and workmanship. If the frame rattles IMO it is defective.

May want to clarify what you mean by "foam filled". I do not believe that the handles are "foam filled", as you can easily puncture the "foam" in most handles underneath the butt cap as this is just a hollow cavity within the grip.

Some do have foam while others don't that's why I asked and the OP says his are foam filled

Iirc i had a wilson racquet vibing like crazy and it turned out it was the buttcap cover. Replacing it solved the situation

The trap door was the issue and specifically there was some "film" spanning the cap
That 'film' is adhesive tape meant to keep the trap door from vibrating. One you take it off and break the seal you may end up with a vibration. That is what I meant by removing the trapdoor in post #16

On the topic of Wilson quality control... Went to try an 18 x20 Blade CV this week. Shadow swinging it felt sluggish so I put it on the prince PTC. 337 SW!
