Harriet Dart told umpire her opponent smells so bad and lost the match 0-6 3-6

Well they’re playing in Rouen- maybe her opponent had a ripe chunk of Époisses or Chaumes in her racquet bag. Yum

Or maybe she deliberately didn't have a shower and decided to wear her old dirty clothes that day to make Dart feel nauseous during the match.

Weird. I thought tennis was different from wrestling in that way that there's usually 20m in between the players.
Old dirty sweaty tennis clothes can be so stinky you can smell it from across the court, especially if you're playing against the wind. And you walk past your opponent very closely during a changeover.

Serious loser behaviour. Still, if I was a 28 year old journeywoman and just got bagelled by a 21 year old ranked a 100 spots below me I might react like a child too. Boisson's reaction on the Gram was hilarious. Completely outplays Darty for the second time of the day. Harriet probably guaranteed an Andrew Castle spot on TV for the rest of her life when she hangs them up, maybe she should just look forward to that.

Well, the verdict is here from our judge, Kyrgios :

And Kyrgios has now given his take on the bizarre situation, writing on X: “Nah saying this when you are down and getting snipped is wild”.

Cracks me up that so many media outlets have a story about this, it is barely anything. She apologized and apparently her opponent even made a joke about it so clearly no ill-will.
Hate to say it but I agree with Nick. It's poor sportsmanship. She resorted to demeaning her opponent because she had no answer for her on the court. I'm glad this blew up in the media as athletes should be called out for poor behaviour.

Hmm..is there a british french angle to it i.e the French players have a different culture and dont follow the standards of Brits

What everyone needs, is for the WTA to make an agreement with the French government.
Free French perfume will then be supplied to all tournaments. (Let the men stink.)

Hehe... Way back, I've heard a joke from a Brit, it involved a contest - how long you can stay in a cave with a smelly goat...

Have never been able to smell a singles opponent from across the net; there is just too much separation. So not clear what this malcontent Harriet is whining about.
Harriet obviously sniffed her for 2 seconds while changing ends. Big deal. A bad smell for a moment. It has no bearing on the rallies.
Furthermore, there is nothing that a chair umpire can do. The umpire cannot force anyone to wear deodorant.
Simply low-class behaviour!

I agree with you that it’s definitely hard to catch any scent from opponents during baseline rallies or even quick net exchanges.

This thread made me realize I should probably start paying more attention to on-court odors.

Hell, I'm in a public bus and the guy next to me is using a deodorant or perfume that smells so strongly bad. Or maybe the deodorant is mixed with his 3 days of no showering / bathing body odour. I think I'm gonna vomit.

Dart has been a petulant brat throughout her career.

The other British female players generally get on well with each other, but Dart has had run-ins with quite of a few of them, notably Boulter.

She constantly whines during matches and acts like a sore loser after defeats. Plus I’ve heard quite a few accounts of her being very unfriendly from people who’ve met her in person at British tournaments.

I saw her berating the ball kids a few times when I watched her play in person at a challenger event a few year back (and just acting like an idiot in general), and then instantly rooted for her opponent.
