I heard couple years ago, that in men singles, everybody who win his first slam in career, on next slam he lose. Is it true? If yes, that's mean Alcaraz will not win RG this year. This is his first slam after USO22
His first was AO, which he already missed, Med came really close after taking 2-0 leadI heard couple years ago, that in men singles, everybody who win his first slam in career, on next slam he lose. If Med came close to doing it, Alcaraz certainly can. There's no Nadal this time. A perfect opportunity for him to set a new Open Era record. His first was AO, which he already missed, Med came really close after taking 2-0 lead
But it's not a record as he missed the AO.If Med came close to doing it, Alcaraz certainly can. There's no Nadal this time. A perfect opportunity for him to set a new Open Era record.
But he already missed AO, precedent has been set by Jimmy connor. If Med came close to doing it, Alcaraz certainly can. There's no Nadal this time. A perfect opportunity for him to set a new Open Era record.
You are correct. Other players in the Amateur era did it too, for example Budge who won 6 Slams in a row and then turned pro. But it is a weird statistic quirk that no man has won the very next Major after their first Major title since the open era started. In open era I don't think so but remember reading that Rosewall first two slam back to back

Of course, like with aforementioned Connors who did win three consecutive Majors which he did play! Others have got very close. In several cases, it's not because of lack of ability.
I was also thinking of Djokovic and Murray who just lost to the better players at their pet slams.Of course, like with aforementioned Connors who did win three consecutive Majors which he did play! Others have got very close.

To be fair if he beat Musetti, Tsits and Novak back to back and all three are playing at decent level then that is enough to show his mental toughness and high ceilingNot record but it will certainly show his mental toughness and high ceiling.
Isn't Connors also did the same, he won three in a row he playedNobody has ever done it back to back, Nastase is the only guy to ever do what Carlos can do here. Win the next one you play after the first one you win. That was 50 years ago.
Oops, yes. You're right.Isn't Connors also did the same, he won three is a row he played
