Has Davis Cup fallen off the radar ?

With the new format, does anyone care about this year's Davis Cup ? I had to google it to find out when and where it is.

Just goes to show how arbitrary and dispensable the goalposts are. In 20 years there will be different objectives by which we will judge players.

In the future Newport will likely be the prime barometer and guys like Isner, Rusedksi (THRICE Champion !), Rajeev "Pistol Pete" Ram, Santoro and, of course, Bryan Shelton will be argued over as to who is The GOAT.

So they REALLY decided to not just kill DC but murder it. Crush it.

Shakira? Nepotism? Corruption? MTV cheesiness?

Nuff said.
This won't be the first time Shakira will perform at sports events. For example, she also performed at the kick-off and closing ceremonies of the 2010 FIFA World Cup (football) in South Africa.

And football is the epitome of corruption and unfairness and dumb rules and idiotic athletes... Thanks for confirming what I said.

We live in a cretinous age, unfortunately. Cultural dumbing-down is promoted by the elites for a good reason...

Yes, the new Davis Cup is a joke.
I am so happy my country could win it with Del Po in 2016, after so much suffering and failed attempts.
If that had not happened, winning it by the new format would not have the same value, in my opinion.
They have destroyed the Davis Cup.

Absolutely.

Whoever wins it this year... like a glorified World Team Cup.

Especially if more than one Big 3 fails to show up... and considering it's after WTF they will be skipping this rubbish often.

The Davis Cup is a team competition. Every team is happy they don't have to play against a player of the Big3/Big4. :)

Yes, the minute Federer won it it lost all value. Just ask any Nadal fan.

Lol #TeamRafa aren't always looking into the neighbors house, like you seem to not be able to stop doing. You might as well join us since you spend all day thinking about Rafa.

Cause and effect are a tough game for some to grasp...

It's the reverse. Once RF won it, DC became the biggest event among victims of 40-15.

Because Rafa won it 4 times, and...
But did HE? Or did a platoon of other top 20 players help him out?

Cause Fed and Stan had to virtually play every single tie. Nadal just shows up for one match in the final and takes all the glory. What a joke. Nadal won all those Davis Cups as much as Steve Jobs invented any product that he marketed.

RF and Stan were such a ridiculously strong pair it's actually EMBARRASSING they didn't win more DCs...

As for Rafa being a 3rd wheel at DC, which must have been won by Lopez every time... well... only you could imply st like that.

But that's the thing, they were a PAIR. This is not a buddy + buddy competition. Both had to play each time for them to stand a chance of winning the whole thing. Spain could've easily won the DC in Nadal's time without him. Take one of Federer or Wawrinka out and they can lose to freaking Zimbabwe.

Same thing with Murray in 2015. He literally had to win every singles match in every tie to win the thing because outside of a decent doubles pair GB was nothing. Now they at least got guys like Edmund and Evans but back in 2015 it was basically all Murray.

Nadal is a 3rd wheel at DC in this sense that he can show up in the final for one match to take all the glory for himself when in reality he barely played any ties before. Dude I'm 99,9% sure that Federer has played more matches than Nadal at DC at the same age.

2004 - don't tell me that a 17/18-year old Nadal was essential for Spain to win the DC when his biggest challenge was Roddick on clay
2008 - beat Kiefer in the QF and Querrey+Roddick (again) on clay in the SF
2009 - played in the 1st round ON CLAY just because Djokovic entered, then only played the final
2011 - only played the finals

Federer never had the luxury of just showing up for 1 round. He had to be there (AND WIN) basically all of his singles matches.

Besides, if Federer had 4 DC and Nadal 1 DC I would've said the exact same thing - not only that it's worthless (or it's worthless for like 20+ years now) and it's a TEAM competition, not a 1 or 2 player competition.[/QUOTE]

There's an old saying "if it ain't broke why fix it?" Davis Cup was fine as it was but if the new format brings more of an interest to Tennis and the Davis Cup then so be it.

I was one of the last fans of the Davis Cup, but yeah, with this new format who the hell cares? Not that I've looked into either in any great detail, but what are the differences between it and the ATP Cup, what is going to make it stand out without the best of five matches, or the crazy partisan home crowds?

The Big3 will play in the DC final in November. (Switzerland didn't reach the final.)

- Austria, Georgia, Greece and Switzerland did not reach the DC final.

- A.Zverev prefers to play exhibition matches in Mexico and South America, instead of playing in the Davis Cup final.

- K. Anderson, K.Nishikori and L.Pouille are injured.

Nishikori..................... injured?

Sounds great in theory. In theory the Big 4 all play WTF, but actually they very rarely do... Injuries and stuff.

Placing DC in November. A joke.

The DC final has always been played in November.
You kidding, right...?

No...?

The entire Davis Cup was always played from Januray/February to November/December. It was never a one-week event.

There's a huge difference between playing this Exo nonsense in November compared to playing the FINALE in December that the team worked their butt off for a year or more.

The DC final wasn't a one-week event, but it was held in November, immediately after the ATP final.
