Has Matteo Berrettini Established Himself as the 2nd Best Grass Courter in the World?

He's 30-3 in his last 33 grass court matches. He has won Stuttgart twice (2019, 2022), Queen's once (2021), and he's in the semis of Queen's once again. He made the Wimbledon final last year, and I see no reason why he can't do it again.

Aside from Novak Djokovic, it feels like Berrettini is solidly ahead of everyone in terms of grass court prowess right now. Is anyone else on his level?

He is looking good on the grass so far but when his serve deserts him, he is struggling. Pretty up and down and found a way through against Kudla at Queen’s despite not playing well.

Nadal has a shot at Novak. Just a small shot, and it won't be enough, but it's something.

Berrettini - and I like him! - has no shot against Novak.

So...

No.

He's good at winning zero-relevance tournaments. Not gonna do a damn thing against the big 2. No backhand bum!
Dude there’s almost no grass tournaments to win other than Wimbledon, of which he made the finals last year lol

He’s winning the other ones without problem, just has to bring it on the one important tournament

Nadal hasn’t won anything on grass since 2010. lol
Doesn't necessarily mean much. If he comes in healthy then he is dangerous if he makes it to the 2nd week. I also have similar thoughts in that Novak is clearly the best on grass, then it's either Nadal or Berrettini. If Nadal is close to the level that we might expect, then he's probably the #2, but I wouldn't say Berrettini isn't all that far behind him.

The big question that I have is who the heck else are we gonna see in the QF lineup this year. It's too weird without Zverev + the Russians. Like we can expect Hurkacz and Felix, probably Cilic, but who else? Although I guess that's 6 out of the 8 QF spots right there.

yeah, but compare his last grass match vs. Djokovic and Fed to the last matches Berrettini played against them.

Rafa's slice is deadly, his volleying has been better than usual this year, and on grass in the second week the bounce is basically perfect for his strike zone.

I think he will run away with his half of the draw. The final vs. Djokovic will be his only challenge.

second best grass courter in the world LOL
Not even top 10.
His Wimbledon final appearance was a fluke. Look at his draw last year en route. He didn't beat anybody of any worth. Felix and Hurkacz LOL

Berrettini has the merits of being considered the second best grass courter in the world, just as Ruud is considered the second best clay courter of the world.
However, I haven’t made up my mind whether both should hold this qualification for current time or all time.

Nadal is even top 5 grass courter at the moment. Djokovic, Berrettini, FAA, Alcaraz, Hurkacz, Kyrgios are all (much) better than him. Also Peniston and van Rijthoven are better.

Nadal will be lucky to win 8 games vs Berrettini should they meet this WC.
Let's not get carried away. The first 5 guys you mentioned could get it done for sure if they play well. May also be dependent on what version of Rafa we get.

But Peniston? and van Rijthoven? Challenger level guys? Your 2nd statement is also ridiculous. Nadal serve to Berrettini backhand alone will get him at least a set. It's about time I bring up again how Novak was spinning in 70-80mph 2nd serves to his backhand in the final last year and he was never punished for it. This was me last year watching that

He'll have a solid chance for a deep run if he doesn't face players like Djkovic or Nadal early on. Though a player with his return (and movement) would never be as successful on grass against a semi-decent field.

Career-wise? Yes, but so is Fed career-wise. We do not know how Rafa will perform at Wimbledon.

Of course, two Slams is nothing to laughed at.
Anyone who knows tennis knows Rafa will steamroll the field at Wimbledon.

He is unstoppable right now.
