Has Novak dominated Wimbledon?

Most top all-timers had periods of dominance at 2 Slams. Novak has done this in Australia without argument but what about Wimbledon? Winning twice back to back in a 6 year span. Or is 3 in 4 more akin to dominance? Trying to clarify this. I lean on yes.

Four titles in six years is a solid domination ratio, he did better than Sampras at the USO who was considered as a dominant player at that tournament (four titles in seven years). The fact that he also defended his his title (on two different occasions) helps his case a lot as it is much tougher to repeat such success because you're constantly under the radar.
I would say it's not wrong to say that he was dominant, though behind Borg, Sampras and Federer on the list for sure.

Depends wich time period. From 2014 he has dominated it. If we count this whole decade, he's been the best of the bunch, but not dominant. Although two title defences are huge.

He has to add a couple more to be considered dominant, his style of play on grass was simply never dominantly convincing so he needs more stats to be considered a dominant player like Roger did in the first decade or Pete in 90's

I wouldn't say he dominated Wimbledon, though I would say he was the best player there in the last decade. His wins are a bit staggered for me, I think he needs at least three wins in a row for that.
Interesting. I actually think - sadly - he has dominated Wimbledon. 5 titles in 9 years with another losing final during that time span. A better level of dominance than Connors or Sampras at the USO, although behind Federer, Sampras and Borg at W.

I can see why some think so, and also why some are on the fence, personally for me dominance is having a solid run of wins and Djokovic has had periods of wins sandwiched between periods of losses also.

Definitely dominated it.

RG Nadal 12
Wimbledon Federer 8, AO Djokovic 8
Wimbledon Sampras 7
RG Borg 6, AO Federer 6
Wimbledon 5 Djokovic Borg, USOpen 5 Federer, Sampras, Connors

Not sure if 5 is not enough to be dominant. 5 slams at same tournament in 10 years. And if we want to go in further details, out of the 5, 3 slam wins are vs record Wimbledon as well as slam holder and 2 vs 2nd place record slam holder.

Just remember this match from 2015 when Novak was simply indomitable.

Hard to say he's dominated because of the time between his wins and the fact that none of his wins were particularly convincing outside of 2011 and kinda 2015. If he pulls through this year I think it'd be fair at that point he's dominated.

The difference between Djokovic fans and nadal and Federer fans is amazing. Some of djokovics main fans on this thread and none of them are talking rubbish and they are all being realistic. Brilliant to see. Very un tennis warehouse forum.
Agree. Djokovic fans are very much characterized by circumspection and a level-headed response, even when Djokovic has gone on one of his dominant runs (2011, 2015 etc etc)

Of the Big 3 advocates, they seem least likely to be labouring under an inferiority complex. Partially because of the way Novak has gone about things, I think.

Djokovic has been the GOAT to Ultronians since 2011 and he will win the calendar slam every year he wins the AO :-D not to mention he surpassed Fed and Nadal in 2015. Pass whatever yall are having lol

It's easier to be generous when you're winning. They know Novak just won two slams titles that must feel like "bonuses" because he didn't play that well, and his opponents should have taken those titles. Mental strength and consistency can take you all the way to the top in tennis.

I agree Djokovic has many good and reasonable fans, though :)

And this is relevant because?
I just happened to look at your join date that's all lol. Then I googled when the FO final was. It's just an interesting choice when the final haden't been played ;) it would have been the day he beat, or the day after he beat Nadal.

I'm on the fence. He was the best player last decade, no doubt about that, but didn't dominate like Sampras, Federer and Borg.
The dominances of Federer, Sampras, and Borg in Wimbledon were, of course, higher level than Djoker's domination, but Nole managed to create a dominance in Wimbledon, whose level I call solid - 4 titles in the range of 6 editions (as well as McEnroe at the US Open), 5 titles in the range of 9 editions (better than Sampras or Connors at the US Open). Federer, Sampras and Borg have reached a level that I would call an amazing dominance.

It doesn't matter. I take Borg as an example - his only smooth triumph in Wimbledon was his first in 1976, when he won the title without losing the set. Achieving other titles was then complicated:
  • 1977: In the second round, Borg had to turn from 0-2 to sets against Edmondson, then played five-sets matches against Gerulaitis in SF and Connors in the final.
  • 1978: In the first round, Borg had to turn the match from 1-2 to sets against Amaya.
  • 1979: In the second round, Borg had to turn from 1-2 to sets against Amritraj (Borg was losing 1:4 in the fourth set) and in the final, Borg had to turn from 1-2 to sets against Tanner.
  • 1980: Five-sets classic against McEnroe in the final.

The only way you can win a calendar slam is if you win the AO, so... Pretty sure there were rumblings of a possible CYGS from Nadal in 2009, no?

Same thing for Fed, even in 2017:

There are many great fans in both Federer and Nadal fanbases that are very respectful and very grounded about their guys also. We shouldn't paint everyone with the same brush, conversely we do have a few Djokovic fans that do like to spice things up also. ;)

However, Team Earth's Mightiest Warriors is still the place to be. (y)

i would say, considering adversity effect, Novak's 5 titles carries much much more weight than Fed's 8 title. Had Fed played against a crowd like this, i doubt his winbly title would have reduced to 2 or 3.

Imo anyone who claims one fanbase is better than the other is just being unrealistic/ are looking through biased lens or whatever. The posters above have always been respectful to others just like the good eggs in every fanbase here. Doesn't mean one of them is better.

Yes, on the topic.
Fed fans are worst. Federer is good.
Rafans are best. Rafa is a bully.
Nolefams are worst. Novak is ok.
