Has Roddick become the current day Roscoe Tanner

Inner Game

Semi-Pro
Anyone notice how similar Roddick has become to Roscoe Tanner....Andy will never be Number 1 again but will stick around in the top 10.
Roddick=great serve (but he's lost 10 mph)
Above average forehand
below average backhand
no touch on volleys
questionable foot speed

All this spell a ranking between 5-12 for Andy. Too bad as Andy is about the only men's player that can give a good interview...

I think Roddick has better groundstrokes then Tanner, not saying they are that strong but Tanner had no groundstrokes to speak of whatsoever. I think Tanner volleys better. Tanner was even slower and more plodding out there. Roddick is a bit better I think but they are very similar. Roddick is very much a modern day Tanner in my book.

Above average forehand? I think not.

Maybe if we're talking about 2003 Roddick, then I'd say yes.

He no longer has a great forehand, in 2003-2004 he had a top 3 forehand I would say. He is nowhere neare that now but it is still above average. Do you think out of the top 100 more guys have better forehands then Roddick then worse? He wouldnt be hanging around the top 5-6 still with a below average forehand, that is his 2nd best shot, and there are arguably a few guys with even better serves.

What's Roddick ranked about 79. You know who's really great is Igor Andreev. He hits it really hard, he's probably top 5.

I think we can merge the threads, Roddick has the
-worst forehand
-worst serve
-worst volley
-worst backhand
-worst movement
-worst strategy
-poorest exectution
Did I leave anything out?
Oh, yeah he's definitely not in the top 50.
TW consensus so it must be true.
Probably would lose to a Wayne Ferraria or half the guys on the Champions tour if they played S&V and you took away Roddick's Luxillon.

Roddick's forehand looked really good when he played Federer. He was playing more aggressive. It was deep and a lot different than it's been most of the year.

Tanner's serve was better and so was his volleys.

He was also better at picking up chicks and writing bad checks.
