Have we seen the best of Sock ?

I'm always pulling for the young American but I think his best days may be behind him.

He used to pop high 130-low 140 mph serves. Now, he rarely hits one over 125 mph. His devastating forehand doesn't seem like such a weapon anymore. It used to be jaw dropping. Now, it just seems spinny and doesn't pose a problem for opponents.

It seems his best arena is doubles but here's mostly given up (to focus on singles) and only played dubs at select tournaments with various partners.

So, is Jack on the decline? Is 17 the highest he'll every get ranked?

No, by default. Murray/Novak/Federer/Nadal/Wawrinka/Berdych won't be around forever.

I can't believe I just lumped Berdych in that same sentence...

Yeah, he's pretty clearly on the way down, and is starting to get lapped by younger, more talented players.

He was never going to be in it for the long run with a glorified junior forehand as his sole weapon and third-rate fitness.

Prolly have a good second career as a dubs specialist, though. Lotta no-talents with stack of slams in dubs.

Saw he just lost in the 1st round of Cincy today. Man......his descent will be coming quickly.

Pretty much...

He's got as far as he could without a backhand and a big flat serve and he never looked the fittest. Time to concentrate on doubles and find a regular partner, maybe team up with Pospisil again.

He has consistently improved his ranking, # of wins, and performance at majors for six years straight and is only 24.
Unless he makes a QF at the USO you could say 2017 was a step back for him at majors, but I don't think there's anything to suggest he's suddenly washed up.

I think around 27-29 years old he will rank No. 8-No. 12 and make a few major QFs. My personal expectations for his career have never been higher than that and he appears to be right on track.

I wonder if he's injured. And with that goofy wristy FH I wouldn't be shocked.

He and Steve Johnson should take a yr off and go learn how to hit a respectable BH. The Roddick Method ain't gonna get it done.

So far there's no reason to think it's anything more than a downturn in form. Earlier this year, he had his best patch. It's pretty normal for that to be followed by a reversion to the mean.

To say that about a tennis player who is only 24 year is a damning indictment. But he was never going to be a top 10 player anyway, so no loss.

I like Jack Sock, but just like an old pair of socks, it has holes in them like some parts of his game. He has improved but to reach higher he needs to tighten up those loose ends. :p

From what I recall from this season, Jack has played well in 250 events but laid eggs in most 500s, Masters, And Slams.

I just keeping seeing that his weapons aren't getting him the easy points anymore. I've always hoped he'd make the Top 10.
