Have you ever enjoyed a match where your Favorite player got destroyed?

I don't like to see any great player being destroyed. I always want to see competitive matches, whether my favorites are involved or not.

As examples, as a Fedal fan, the Federer vs Cilic Wimbledon final and the Nadal vs Wawrinka FO final were completely unsatisfying despite the good results for Federer and Nadal. Why would anybody want to see those kind of beatdowns in a slam final? Give me an AO 2017 type final any day.
 
Off recent memory I think I enjoyed the Doha final in 2016 where my boy got humiliated by Djokovic. First, because it was a small tournament so not overtly bothered Nadal got destroyed and two, Djokovic was playing like a mad man.

It was a match like @NBP said for his Fed vs Djokovic AO 2016 experience, all you can do is just laugh and witness the performance from opposite the net lol Even Nadal was chuckling at some of the shots Djokovic was pulling off so I was rolling with it.

Murray getting destroyed by Wawrinka at the US Open in 2013, his lesson by Federer at Wimbledon in 2015 was awesome tennis by both but Federer was on the level of tennis perfection.
 
Murray getting wiped off court in the 2015 Wimbledon SFs - probably the best straight set match I've seen. I wouldn't call it "enjoyable" as such but it was fun to watch the level that was being produced

I'll go first. I'm a Fed fan and I truly enjoyed Stakhovsky taking down Federer at 2013 Wimbledon 2nd round. That was an amazing, gutsy performance by a guy who was almost teaching Federer, a guy who'd had a lot of success at Wimbledon playing from the back of the court, how grass court tennis is still done. At the end of the match even the elder Federer was giving him a standing ovation from Roger's player box, with a grin on his face. "Now that's how it's done son", seemed to be the take home message.

Yep first match that came into my head when I saw the thread title. I had believed all out S & V against a top 5 player was a near impossible strategy up to that point. I was amazed what this guy was doing; even after he lost the first set he just kept on persevering, doing Roger's head in with the volleys he was coming up with. Would recommend the highlights on youtube. World class display of S &V.

Edit: Ok I know one of you will point out Henman vs Coria. What I mean is I though S&V was all but dead at Wimby, and here's a guy succeeding with against Fed!

I think this match had as much to do with Roger's shift in tactics/ seeking out new coaching approaches as did losses to Djokovic in slam finals and semis.

A second round loss at Wimbledon to a pure S&V display is got to be a jolt to anyone, let alone one of the greatest ever on that surface.
 
Wawrinka crushing Federer at RG 15. Fantastic display,I enjoyed it very much. By then I didn't have any expectations anymore of Federer winning RG, so I didn't care about the loss. Wanted him to focus on Wimbledon.

Del Po against Federer at the ATP finals.

Kuerten's win over Fed at RG.

Another two are in not so recent times Safin taking out Federer at the AO and Federer taking down Sampras (of course, not beatdowns).

Goran's wins over Sampras in Paris and at Wimbledon.

Me as well. Can't say I truly enjoyed it given how poor Fed performed, but was very impressed with - and happy for - Andy

Only one match off the top of my head. The Australian Open epic between the 2 Brits. Sir Andy Murray vs Jack Hogan. Hogan's serve left the building, but some how, he found a way like the champions do. Personally, I don't think it gets more spectacular than this.

Sir Andy took another accomplishment away from Federer once more. Goating on break point wastage.

No. I have enjoyed some epic battles though where eventhough I'm sad Rafa lost, I enjoyed the match throughout and am proud for the way he performed
 
When Connors got destroyed by The Great Arthur Ashe.
Never liked to see Agassi get destroyed by Pete but that US Open 2001 4 set tie break match was great stuff.
Pete getting beat up by Agassi at the AO 2000 was a great match.
Federer beating up Djokovic in 2007 and 2008 US Open. It helped Djokovic become a better player by learning from his Dad.
 
I enjoyed Fatbaldian beating Fed in the 05(?)WTF Final.

Thoroughly pissed me off at the time but rewatching the match I appreciated David's magic.

Agreed. The 2015 USO Final was sad for Fed fans. The AO SF was stunning because of the sheer insane level Nole brought. I think the fact that Fed looked out of it in the first two sets and was barely moving his feet made it easier to digest the beatdown Nole was inflicting on him. It also gave me a strange sense of Deja Vu seeing that the man across the net from Fed was showing the type of movement and level Fed himself used to be capable of in his prime but could no longer bring.
