Have you ever thought about looks this way?

A couple of days ago, some guy told me that no matter who you are (e.g. Brad Pitt, Leonardo Di Caprio, Marlon Brando etc.) there will always be someone who looks better than you. I thought the logic was self-defeating but I don't know what to think of this.

I have the feeling that it is more of a choice but how about you guys?

And if you think a girl like Alessandra Ambrosio is the most beautiful girl in the world, will there always be someone elese who looks better?

Yes, until I was around 17 - 19 years old.
The girl's personality started to affect how beautiful I thought she was. I also quit caring whether other people thought a girl I was with was pretty or not. Only I am the world's foremost expert on how beautiful a woman looks to me.

You can see one of the guys in the background is appalled, and the other can't bear to look at her. So I am sure there are women who look better.

Now seriously, 90% of it is culture. You have been subjected to pavlovian conditioning: for many years the media have bombarded you with images of a certain stereotype of woman in a context that you would associate with "hotness."

Think about Rubens' plump ladies, Japanese doll-like make-ups, the long necks of Pa Dong women... Cultural beauty canons, nothing biologically objective about them, you are being taught who is hot and who is not, regardless of your own inclinations.

Another day we can talk about how young people are learning to perform what supposedly are sexual acts from actors and screenplay writers, instead of from sex educators.

or 'in' for that matter? I heartily agree (her cute 'facia' aside) with that assesment (or "lack of ass" meant).

Who wouldn't rather hear Nice 'n Frisky 'moans & groans' then Rice Krispies 'snap, crackle & pops' while invaginating this comely dress-on-a-broomstick?

Speaking of which, she'd look nice if she ate more rice: rice, the one food to have when you're hungry and you want to eat 5,000 of 'something' :)

I mean, check out her left knee....eww....the ropey, taut sinew around her right knee?....double eww. From her (nobby) knees down, she looks like a grasshopper or a katydid and overall, a preying mantis with 'fake-lookin' B cups. She probably has a great personality though because I don't even think she could get a bug up her ass.

its the same as the line "there will always be someone better than you." basically refers to everything and is usually true... sadly

I was thinking more along the lines of,"hey, is there always going to be someone better looking than you are" sorta thing. Not "let's all gauge how hot Alessandra Ambrosio is."

Negating personality entirely, I still think it comes down to personal preference, even beyond social conditioning. While someone like Brad Pitt might be "conventionally" attractive, and appeal to many women, he simply doesn't appeal to me. It doesn't mean that he's unattractive, it means that I find other people more attractive than him.

And the responses show why the quote posting in the OP is true. Beauty is subjective and through the eyes of the beholder. As such, there will always be someone or something that is more "beautiful" than another, to another.

If there was an objective way to measure looks, then there could be one most beautiful person in the world. But there is not, so its all subjective. In fact beauty is one of the most subjective things ever. I'm sure there are people who straight up don't think Brad Pitt is attractive at all, let alone one of the best-looking out there. If you can't even get 5 people in a room to agree that person X is attractive, then you know its subjective.

And celebrities are heavily overrated. I could walk into a night club on any given night and see dozens of women that are more attractive than any of the most famous celebrities. For one I think there is a distorted view of what body type is most sexy in Hollywood, which disagrees with most of the real world. This could be because of the camera effect, where it makes you look heavier. So looking like a skeleton is more attractive on camera supposedly. I think I'm more in line with natural selection where someone who looks fit to breed is more attractive to me than someone who is going through starvation.

Nah there won't necessarily be someone who looks better. I think looks will start going in a circle because looks/beauty are subjective

Say, for example one are has an issue with self-image-- go to the mall with a pad of paper divided in two (with a line), and, from a central vantage point, watch about a hundred people go by. On one side of the card make a mark for each person more attractive than you, on the other, a mark for those less attractive.

Rather than competing with the rare and elite of the the world, you will get an idea of where you fall in proportion to the multitudes- sort of like an IQ, but for looks.

Let us know the results.

Right, you find out that, overall, attractiveness is a broad concept. Although, I really disagree with some people's view of attractive. I knew some guy who loved Jerry Springer-like fat women as much as any. I cannot agree on that.

It is ONLY self-defeating if you are obsessed with it.

I never heard of her, but I checked the www and to tell you the truth, I can't agree with this...

Just another stick-girl, from a long line of nutritionally-challenged skeletons. What ever happened to MEAT on a woman?
She is not a skeleton. She has a naturally thin frame and I think she looks great. God forbid anyone take responsibility for the crap that they eat and be healthy and fit.

She is absolutely skeletal. There is no doubt about that. Put your damn glasses on and LOOK.

The emaciated look is about as far from "healthy and fit" as one can get.

It sounds to me like you are sorely in need of a shot of Sir Mix A Lot:

I kind of agree with Meg. I think she looks great and I'm noticing there's a lot of hostility in America towards people who would be considered slightly skinny or just plain in shape in Asia or eastern Europe.

I am still amused at how random guys on a forum are going to act like Ambrosia is not hot. It's unreal and hilarious. First off, her job is to show up and look incredible in 2D. I am not sure how many (if any) of you have been on TV or in print ads, but you HAVE to lose about 10-15 pounds if you want to look lean due to the medium.

Her job is to pose for Victoria's Secret. She has to stay as lean as she can for this job. She also is incredibly hot and every guy here would date this girl if they actually had any shot at all.

You couldn't be more wrong. Her face might look good (I won't deny it), but her body looks so disgustingly malnourished that it completely negates any attractiveness of her face. She has no shape and is just skin and bone.

I happen to know someone who is thicker than her, and was advised by a doctor that her weight is of concern and that she is not eating enough.

Believe it or not, it is possible that my opinion is just as valid as yours. Are you telling me that I can't find this girl to be attractive now? Are you going to come into my bedroom and tell me who to sleep with next? lol.

Sorry, but that sentence made me LOL also.

Wow can't believe people are arguing about this, especially since most of the people posting pictures in the picture thread are overweight. Feel tough behind your computer screen eh?

Did you not just call everyone who thinks she's not attractive a liar of some sort? I would never date someone like her and so I really don't care if I had a shot or not. I think you need to read your own posts if you have a problem with mine. You are the one saying all guys must think she's hot.

I don't get the laugh...any doctor would say that live humans are not supposed to look like skeletons.

I hope women are like this too. They will look at all the overweight guys(most adults) and automatically rule them out. Yay for me

I am being serious. Look at her knees and shins, it is not normal there.
Her knees and shins are about bone structure more than body fat. I think her legs look great but she does have very small bone structure.

One of the biggest indicators of whether or not a woman (of child bearing age) is underweight is whether or not she still menstruates. If Alessandra Ambrosio no longer menstruates, then that is her body telling her that it can not support a pregnancy because she is too underweight. This is assuming, of course, that there is no presence of birth control pills (aka hormones that pretty much let you run the show).

Now, someone go ask her if she naturally gets her monthly, 'kay?

For me looking at that picture...its is her legs and knees that suggest she might be underweight. Though, compared to actual anorexics, she looks just fine. There is a big difference between underweight and anorexic though.

Her body fat percentage would also tell us whether she needs a burger or two.

Our understanding of beauty is usually limited to how our culture/society defines it, but across cultures all definitions of feminine beauty suggest youthfulness, health, and fertility. We (men) were evolutionarily predisposed to seek out females who embody these characteristics.

And yes, Alessandra Ambrosio is smoking hot!

Considering that GQ voted me as the best looking man of 2009 I would like to happily say that yes, I can and will get in this girls pants by the end of the night.
