So the rematch was last night (see the thread He Finally Figured Me Out... for the first match description). This time I stood over to the left and four feet further back and hit at most 5 backhand returns over two sets. he was unable to really kick it out to my backhand this time and only aced me once on the duece side wide to the forehand. I did take pace off of the returns when he served and volleyed and made him hit at least a few half volleys. Being further back helped my topspin dip it lower over the net as well. Won the first set 6-1 pretty easily as I think I jumped on him when he wasn't warmed up. The second set he came alive and took a 3-1 lead. He actually had me 4-2 when I reeled off the next four games (one of those games was four serves: an ace and 3 service winners). I made a conscious effort to run around as many backhands as possible and try to dictate with the serve and the forehand. I also took much better care of my serve this time around. To be fair, he didn't play his best and was, as always, gracious in defeat. He also noticed my different tactics and I think it threw him off. I'm looking forward to the next time we play and he makes his own adjustments. Thanks again to everyone's opinions and advice. The thread was a great tool to give myself some insight!!!
