You’re going to have to prove that. Because a quick google search is “Arthur Ashe Wimbledon 1975 shows him using a racket with brownish lettering down the split throat. The comp 1 never had any words on the throat, only at the bottom of the hoop in black. That’s a sure way to tell them apart. Also only note pictures where he’s wearing his white vest with the blue collar, as that’s what he wore in the final, and though there’s no super clear photos online, I’m seeing brownish throat text on picture after picture.

Now, you might think you have me in a gotcha moment if you plug the picture from the American History museum of a racket donated from Ashe himself, which is clearly a comp 1. But in the text that follows, while they say he won Wimbledon in 1975, they do NOT say this exact comp 1 racket was used in that match in 1975.

Yes, similarly I've seen adverts with a picture of the Comp 1, with the text describing the wonderful new Comp 2.

When was the Comp 1 actually released? I've seen 1980 adverts that describe the Comp 3 as new, and 1981 adverts that show it as part of the range, so did they have about a 4-5 year period between each?

Oh the comp 1 dates to all the way back to like 69-70.
 
So we have:

Comp 1 - 1969
Comp 2 - 1974
Comp 3 - 1980

Anyone know Comp 3 Boron's date?

Given the timeframe we've established for the main Comp 1, 2 and 3 models, and noting that the Sapphire Blue Cup ('Allround') and Ruby Red Expert (with Boron) came out around 1978, would it be a reasonable suggestion that the Cup was the Comp 1 in blue, and the Expert was the Comp 2 in red?

It would seem like a logical way of refreshing the range with minimal R&D to me, whilst the Comp 3 with new-fangled graphite was being developed.
