HEAD Boom Official Thread

This racket got a lot of mixed reviews ultimately coming off negative. Not sure why. Thought it was pretty solid. I might switch back to the Boom. Seemed just easier to use then my Yonex ezone 98 last night.
It's great for 2-handed backhands. Personally, I couldn't click the backhand slices and the one-handed backhand.

Okay maybe there's something with these new VCORE's. I was totally fine last year and all winter but the first time I hit with my 2023 VC100 in the spring I had forearm pain the next day and a few days later hit with it again it blew up into the worst case of TE that I'm still dealing with today to the point I'm playing with a Pro Kennex while rehabbing. I was also playing with a 2023 PA at the time but I had that longer and when I was just using it I had no issues. I always traced it back to the first day I hit with the VCORE but given that it's been praised in reviews comfortable so I wasn't sure if it was maybe the poly strings I was using or the frames. Now I'm scared to use the racquet again because my elbow is getting better and I don't want to risk going back to that.
I knew it was the racket as I picked up the Vcp97 i was hitting with briefly the couple of months prior to getting those vc9823 and i could even hit backhands. I went back twice in 2 matches to play with the vc9823 as i was frustrated at getting pushed around with the vcp97 and twice i had to stop after 5-7 minutes. Pain was unbearable.
On Sunday it was the first time i played seriously with the boom pro. An hour training with my coach plus a hard one hour set, which i lost 4-6. And yes i was sore but the normal for still carrying TE.
Don't risk it, I sold all my 3 vc9823...

That’s too bad, I hope you heal quickly. I also thought they were really unique racquets and found them really interesting and fun. I never could really like the grips though. The grips/handles felt a size larger than my Wilson and Head racquets, that and they have zero butt-cap flair.
I played with my Clash 98’s for about a month, just so I’d be able to play and the soreness went away completely after that.
I am really liking the Head Gravity MP a lot! I have 12 grams in the handle so that it’s not so head heavy and light weight. No elbow issues with this one and the grip/handle feels great.
Good luck with the elbow recovery.
Thanks. It's healed quite a bit but it plateaued now. Its been like 5-6 years of only yonexes and I have to say I'm finding the head grip size and flare quite comfortable.
I was between the gravity mp with weight and boom pro and thought the specs of the boom would fit my fame better but was wary of the stiffness. Glad i went for it.

I've decided to drop my ezones and go back to the Boom Pro.

It's like the push-up bra of tennis rackets. I just have so much confidence using it.

Think the stability and extra plow was something the ezones lacked for my game. As long as you put some spin and swing through the racket just takes over and makes sure the ball dips deep and heavy. Great at redirecting fast balls too which again I had a hard time with the ezone.

Tennis warehouse has very different reviews for the boom MP and the boom Pro. I demoed the boom MP and I loved it (lacked a little power and stability) but I'm wondering if the pro version is a lot better. My local tennis shop doesn't have the pro version in stock to demo.

Going to be less power but super stable. I think it shines at redirecting pace. But some people have mentioned it can be a little heavy for them with 10grams more then the mp. If you can maintain racket head speed it hits a pretty heavy ball with the weight and spin it provides

This is where the tennis warehouse review gets confusing. The official review gives the boom MP an 84 in power but the boom pro an 87, which is the opposite of what I expect since the pro has a smaller racket head. I also saw a video review saying that the pro version also had more power than the MP, so I'm not sure which model has more power at this point. It seems like the pro version has everything better (except for maneuverability and maybe power??) so I'll try to demo that.

I noticed that they dropped the prices and was wondering if that meant v2 is in the works to be released.
I hope they don't change it much of how it plays but maybe just tweak the colors.
Prices always kind of been on decline due to its lack popularity imo.
But I would love to see them with less of the mint green and something else. Give me that instinct blue please.

What are some benefits to choosing a Boom Pro versus the Pro/MP versions of Radical, Speed or Extreme Tour? Couldn't gel with the Boom line, and there are so many other good Head offerings

Very true that Head has so many good offerings.

I think Boom Pro is great for the topspin style of player that don't mind some extra pop from the racquet. Speed and Radical are more for the player that also plays flat. Extreme Tour imo provides even more spin than Boom Pro and gives better control but it's light in stock form and can be unstable and jarring from my experience with the 360+ if no weight is added. They might have improved it in the avocado/Auxetic version though. Would love to see an ET in 310-315g stock weight (unstrung) or the Boom Pro with a 16x20 string pattern.

So no one tried the boom mp with lead ? Tennis euphoria and some other youtubers suggest it could be a contender to the extreme tour with more stability, lighter and larger... Others tells it would be like a speed with more spin and I also heard/read that a custom boom is way better than a custom Gravity mp... True or false, I m curious of the opinions of those would tried (because if not... )

Due to the teardrop shape, I could see a comparison between the Boom MP and Gravity MP. My biggest knock on the Boom Pro was that when I got my hands on an Angell TC95 and felt first-hand how much better the cosmetics/paint finish was on the Angell, I couldn't get pass that one for the Boom. The paint finish was just too cheap for the € paid.

Another win for boom pro. The only problem with this racquet was quality control. If you were lucky to found one at around 320-325 you’re gonna fell in love with it instantly. Over 330 it becomes cumbersome….. wide head design and beam thickness don’t help.

Anyone knows when there might be an update to the Head Boom, V2 ?

I am quite keen on the MP version as I want a more arm friendly “tweener” racquet. I play with the Ezone 100 and Clash 100 V2. The Ezone suites me very well but I think my arm dislikes it, even with multifilament strings. The Clash is ok but it has this weird “on/off” sometimes and it is hard sometimes to understand why some balls just launches way out. The Ezone gives me better control.

My OHBH though suffers a little bit with the clunky frame of the Ezone 100. Could definitely use something just a tad thinner. I had the Vcore 100 also and my backhand was quite good with that one. But, I just really disliked the very open string pattern.

This is one of my concerns with the Head Boom MP. How is the launch angle ?

I play with multi string for now due to an improving tennis elbow but progress is rather slow.

So basically hoping for a Clash 100 that offers a more constant hitting experience. Decent power but needs to be decently arm friendly as well, ease to hit OHBH.

I previously played with Volkl Vsense V1 Pro but age (50) and a knee problem , has made me slightly slower and I need some help from the racquet …..

If there is a Boom V2, what things could be improved ?

As you mentioned, I went for the higher sw ones from the matching service and was the right decision.

Weight / SW / balance / stiffness
2) 316. 7 / 291 / 31.8 / 70
4) 314.4 / 290 / 31.8 / 68

For me they play great with head lynx at 22kg. I'm still recovering from TE but this frame allows me to play and keep up with guys around my level or higher. Nothing to complain about here.

Could see myself getting into revisiting the Boom series, but this time with the MP version. My 3 knocks on the Pro were:
- like Tan Tennis says and a few more, some inconsistency on the forehands, but this could be my less good forehand technique back then
- some hollow-semi-stiff feel
- the cheaply-made paint finish at the throat area
If I ever come back to the Booms, it will be for the MP the total blacked-out - "You got this" version, with an open mind to get into some customizing. Glossy paint-finish is "must" for me from now on, as I hit both 2-handed and 1-handed backhands and on my 1-handed backhands the paint-finish is important.

Great ! I created a topic where your experience with a custom boom mp could be really helpfull : Click on this link !

As I have said i have tried 3 different boom pros. 2 of them were heavy and i was late on contact. One of my worst play tests ever. Hated the racquet. The third one was one of my 5 best playtests ever. So today i had the chance to take it to the RDC and voila. Here are the unstrung specs of the one i enjoyed so much. So easy to use, so powerful, stable and so fluid through the air:

308,8 / 286SW / 31,4

The official ones for comparison are:

310 and 31 balance.

I forgot to measure the SW after i put Alu power on it. Does anyone knows how many points (approximately) of SW is added to boom pro ?

depending on the string and gauge thickness, it will add around ~30g of sw.

How is the Boom Pro vs the Extreme Tour. I was very surprised by how much I liked the Extreme Tour, I added a bit of weight and silicone to it but it is way more control oriented than I thought it would be. Noticeable increase in power and spin vs my Prestige (obviously). I am curious how the Boom compares. It has the thinner beam in its favor. I have heard it called 'Heads attempt at a Pure Drive' but maybe that is just the blue color ;)

I ended up loving the Extreme Tour, as it's comfortable, control oriented, but with a little extra pop and spin that I wasn't able to feel with the Boom Pro. I think it all comes down to feel, playing style, and just personal preference - it's pretty crazy how little difference there is amongst some of these Head frames - Boom Pro/Extreme Tour/Radical MP are all very close in specs and playability, so it really comes down to what works best for you.

Price is right on these right now so I grabbed one to test against my IG Extreme Pro, which I consistently seem to play my best tennis with.

Since the Extreme Pro doesn't really exist anymore, is the Boom Pro possibly an alternative if one wanted a thinner beam, a bit more feel and a little less power? I'm thinking the Boom Pro and maybe the Yonex Vcore Tour 98 will be worth a try when it's released. Really can't think of many power frames in that 310-315 range outside of those.

if I'm remembering right, the Auxetic Extreme MP has the tighter 16x19 pattern more commonly associated with the Extreme Pro, just without the weight of the Pro version. Might be worth trying that out to see where to go from there, if nothing else

Is the V1 Boom MP pj blue or green? Thought I'll pick up one with the price drop but the color looks bluish than green. A little confused since the product photos look greenish from paint to grip.
