Head Boom Pro 2024 - Comparison with other brands

Boom Pro has pretty unique mix of characteristics. TW review says it's similar to Vcore 98 or Ezone 98. I only tried Ezone and for me they play nothing alike.

The Boom Pro is an excellent, underrated racquet. It is a very solid, pro stock feeling racquet, despite its goofy name and questionable color palette. As stated above, it's very unique, but for me it was sort of the "Goldie Locks" frame, between
other racquets that I have, Blade V6-V9, Pro Staff V11-V14, V Core 95 V7, Gravity MP 2022, Clash 98 V1.

The color kills it

It really is a unique frame. It plays firm but isn't harsh in anyway. Very point and shoot. The feel and response reminds a little of the Pro Staff 97 with a modern beam and easier to use package. Really enjoy hitting the one handed backhand with this frame.

Same here, I expected to like the ezone as I was coming from a heavy low powered thin beam frame but found it harsh and lacking in feel. Boom pro felt great by comparison and Extreme Tour was pretty similar to Boom Pro. Outside of Head's offerings Wilson Shift 300 is worth a demo, similar power to Boom but aimed more at spin players.

Thank you very much for your answers!

I currently play with Lynx tour 1.25 grey. But I feel they are too stiff. Could you recommend a slightly softer string that is suitable for this racquet?

Lower the tension by 2lbs and try again or add a softer cross to the lynx. Great string but I find it firm compared to Confidential

The feel is pretty addicting, and it offers a lot more playability compared to the Blade v9 or the Ezone 98. Plus my returns have been automatically aggressive with it. My control isn’t as good as my normal control frames, but it’s on par with the Ezone 98, which is already pretty good.

@Okinawa Puroresu - What's your string setup and how is the feel overall? Fairly muted/vague, or otherwise? And do you notice a hot spot / launchy-ness in the upper string bed at times? Or is it pretty consistent?

It was a demo so I only played for a few hours with the stock poly TW uses. One of my primary racquets is a VCore 95, so I’m really familiar with the Yonex shape. I didn’t really feel a hot spot in the top of the hoop; it honestly felt like it had as wide of a sweet spot as advertised. My only issue with it is a maneuverability issue, and it’s one that’s more native to me. I like being able to manipulate the racquet for control, so I prefer smaller head sizes. The Boom wasn’t as fast through the air on my serves as the VCore, but it was about on par with the Ezone. It also wasn’t as easy to maneuver for pinpoint touch shots as the VCore, and I think that’s where the Ezone 98 fares better in comparison.

The Blade comparison makes sense, but for me closer to a K Blade. It doesn't have the softness of the Blade v7. It is a more direct feeling frame IMO.

Got to play longer with the Boom Pro last night, and coming from a Blade v9 I was very impressed - more of a direct feel hitting the ball, slightly more power and spin, very generous sweetspot. Definitely want to spend more time with this as it could be a great option for me longer term.

I agree with that assessment.

Less muted feeling for sure vs the Blade.

The more you use it, the more you'll like it.
