These two mid-1980s rackets make an interesting comparison. I have the MIA versions from '86-87 I believe. The GP was around $120 whilst the CP was $80, and we know from adverts that the GP was 80% graphite to the CP's 60% graphite. Both are very high quality constructions with 'aircraft grade' lacquer and Fairway grips. Mine are very similarly specced around 362g strung, 33 balance. The latter feature does give them a beefy feeling compared to other rackets with similar weight, which is a bit of an issue over long sessions or serving. However, both feel comfortable with good power and control from their 18x20, 89.5sqi stringbeds (1.15cm2 average cell size). Comparing the two, I have to say I prefer the Comp Pro. The GP definitely feels more solid and powerful, but the extra bit of flex that the CP has increases the dwell time, which gives you a feeling of more control. My estimate is 55 RA for the CP, compared to about 60 RA for the GP. Moreover, I feel that the CP is less polarised, whereas the GP feels a bit more clubby. That may just be my versions, but I definitely find my CP more manoeuvrable. Both of mine had what looks like the original SynGut that was still taught. Usually, I prefer sticks with the higher % of graphite, particularly Wilson and Prince classics, but in this case I think the 60% graphite version is the better layup.
