Head Comp Pro

ProRadTour

Professional
Just curious if anyone knows if the Head Comp Pro had a release that was made exclusively in the USA?

I picked one up supposedly brand new, but I am now concerned it might be a fake. The frame does not have Composite Professional on the throat like other Comp Pro's I have seen and it also said Vibration Control System above the grip as opposed to Composite MidPlus.

Are these differences to be expected if there are indeed a USA version and an Austrian version?

Finally I tried to string it up and the grommets just cracked when applying tension.

I don't think there are any fake Comp Pros around. I owned at least 4 different versions of Comp Pros maybe, not able to check them now but I remember all the Austrian frames have vibration-control-system on them.

OK thanks. The other thing that made me suspect this is the leather grip on it is unusual. It has a double width leather grip, i.e it is like a 2 inches with a grove between it to make it look like an overlap.

Has anyone seen a leather grip like this? I never have.

Those grips were relatively common in the '70s on lower-end but still decent wood rackets like the Davis HiPoint and Bancroft Aussie. A few of the mass-market metal rackets had the 'double-wide' grips(also the Head Standard for a while).

If it has the "Vibration - Control - System" graphic on the shaft, it's an Austrian made frame. Perhaps it had a buttcap with Made in USA sticker and an aftermarket grip fitted at some point. What color is the frame?

It's grey and a USA model. I know the racquet he is talking about. It has vibration control system above the grip.

That is the one. Any experience playing with the USA model? I need to get some CAP grommets before I have a hit with it.

How is the grommet strip? The CAP grommets will add weight to the hoop of the frame. If you do need new grommets trim the CAP grommets so its a grommet strip. try to keep as original as possible. That way you will have the best performance. It's a very solid soft racquet. It has surprising power for how soft it is.

The grommet strip broke/cracked when I started to apply tension when stringing the mains.

It looked fine before stringing, brand new to be exact. They just seemed very brittle.

They dried out. Thats common with 27 year old grommets. Get some MG Prestige mid CAP grommets and trim them. When you get it strung up you will be very surprised at how plush that racquet feels.
