HEAD Signs World No. 3 Novak Djokovic

Kennelbach – Austria – January 2009 – HEAD announced that the company has signed a long term agreement with tennis superstar Novak Djokovic of Serbia, who currently ranks third in the South African Airways ATP ranking. Djokovic will make his debut as a HEAD athlete at the Brisbane International this week. The partnership became effective on January 1st, 2009.

“I am extremely excited to be joining the HEAD family, as HEAD is well-known and well-respected on the tour,” said Djokovic. “This gives me an exciting opportunity to play with a racquet that has the technology with the right feel to compliment my aggressive style of play.”

Djokovic represents the next generation in professional tennis and joins an established roster of professionals who choose HEAD as their racquet of choice, including two other Top 10 players in Andy Murray and Gilles Simon.

“Signing Djokovic, a top 3 ATP player and potential world No. 1, completes what has become a formidable HEAD team and further strengthens our presence on the ATP Tour,” said Johan Eliasch, CEO of the HEAD N.V. Group. “He’s a charismatic, passionate and athletic player – an ideal representation of the HEAD brand.”

Coached by former ATP pro and Slovak Republic native Marian Vajda, Djokovic began playing tennis at the age of four and made his pro debut in 2003 at the age of 16. After the 2006-07 season, he was named the ATP’s “Most Improved Player of the Year”. He has captured four titles in seven finals last year, including his first career Grand Slam at the Australian Open and the Tennis Masters Cup in Shanghai.

“HEAD offers me great racquet technology which is exactly what I need for my game,” said Djokovic. “I am pleased to play with HEAD as they develop racquets with their players and taking care of our individual needs.”

Born in Belgrade, Serbia in 1987, he currently resides in Monte Carlo, Monaco. Djokovic comes from a family of professional athletes, as his father, uncle and aunt were professional skiers.

“We are proud to be in partnership with Djokovic and his team. He’s got great character on the court and is a fantastic athlete. We look forward to this new endeavor,” said Eliasch.

wow, that's kind of cool! so new technology is teflon and new strings??? what could that be? plus how long is the new contract with head??

prediction... he'll lose a few matches, have an off year, cry like a baby, blame his gear, then sign with Wilson again just because he likes the paintjob better.

From what I read Joker actually never really stopped playing with Head. He had always had played with head. Wilson chased him down and made a racquet for him to match the specs of his original Head tennis racquet.

hmm first round loss at brisbane....guess gulbis hit one of those hot streaks. hes either 100% on or 100% off. well have to stay tuned with djokovics results because if he starts a trend of early round defeats i have no doubt in my mind he will go back to his original pj

^^ Correct, no name for the racket though. Won't include the Microgel name though, will have a new grommet tech called Teflon.

of course it will be, the cosmetics won't change now for at least 2 years or so. he had the k blade for 2 years and a line of rackets usually stay for same for 2 years. but has that's a new technology and it doesn't seem it's a old racket mold, but a new one with a HEAD paint job so it's more likely he will stay with that racket for a while over 2 years as long as he gets on with it and doesn't start losing.
