head custom made racquets

hi all

i noticed on the head racquet website, where novak d was touting the benefits of the head custom made
speed, where he could get the weight, balance and even the color of the racquet that he specified.
anyone actually order one, and how did it turn out?
looks pretty cool if you can dial in the racquet that you want
i might go back to the head prestige if this works out as custom racquet!

As above the issue is that you are still playing with a recent line of head racquets. I bought angell on reviews, waiting for monday to hit with when it arrives.

Head lost a lot of support in recent years with their changes to frames and its funny that they have djokovic doing it because he uses pro stock ofc which isnt sold to public, not even using that speed frame. Would be even greater if they had murray as his drill pattern has never been available to the public or used by others and his racquet design is 30 or so years old.

Prestige used to be an option on Custom Made site, but it was removed a few months back. Just the Speed is shown now.

I have 6 of the Custom Made Prestige and they are very well made and came in exactly on spec. There was a variance of about 4 SW points between them all. They are prepared by the same people, using the same techniques, as the Head Pro Stock frames (which I also have several of). So if you're looking for that sort of frame then this could be an option.

Just something to know on the Speed model they have. It's not the same hairpin that is used by the Head professionals, it has shared holes (which I personally am not a fan of).

I've ordered two Angell frames and they have not turned out to be what I'd expected from all the hype. If you're looking for a soft, lower powered frame, I'd definitely recommend demoing the Prince Phantom. That racket has a permanent place in my bag, and could end up being the racket I settle on. There is also the new Tecnifibre TFight 315 LTD just posted on the last few days. No experience with that, but understand it's in that same league.

It's a good time to be a control player that likes flexible frames. Many choices like the Wilson Ultra Tour, Srixon Revo CX 2.0 Tour, Tec TF/DC 315 Ltd, Prince Phantoms. Let's see what Head does, but I'm not holding my breath. By the way, have you written about why you were let down by Angell?

I'm tempted to get the new Tecnifibre just for collection purposes (unless I love it).

I've posted in the Angel thread a bit. The short(ish) version is. I have a TC97 18x20 and aside from the buttcap not being fixed on properly its actually not to bad. The Angell grommets are very soft so you need to be careful with string selection, for instance thin shaped polys are probably going to see you replacing grommets regularly. The last one I tried was the TC100 63RA. There are untold posts in the Angel thread claiming that the RA comes down by about 3 with the pallets, grommets being added and another 2 when strung. So I was expecting a soft and plush racket in the 57 RA region and thats not what that racket is (for me). Rather it feels like it is 70 RA and felt very tiny and flimsy in the head. But people love them, and to each their own. That's why we're fortunate to have so much choice.

I'll probably buy a 315 LTD. If the EZONE 100 rackets I have arriving tomorrow don't work out for me then I think I'll be turning to the 315 LTD, or the Phantom is a definite option (I love that frame).

Are these custom frames the same quality as the pro stock versions? What is the price per racquet?
No, they are made in the same factory as with their retail sticks. same material also. It really isn't a fully customized racquet but if you are willing to pay up $500 for a retail head racquet you may be better off looking elsewhere. I personally would not deal with a company that has zero credibility who still tells us Djokovic uses a speed. Djokovic uses an old radical mold PT113b and they do not offer that to consumers.
Like others have said, Angell used to make very good TC97s it may be a good yet cheaper option. Plus their quality is much better than head.

Bumping this thread to see if anyone has any new info regarding the future of this service. I feel like there's some potential here that Head certainly should be tapping into, especially now that they're making great racquets again.

Is the custom made site down for anyone else? I'm interested in buying some leather grips.
This so called head custom site was terminated indefinitely. People are smart enough to not get ripped off by low quality sticks with pretty paint jobs. Garbage is still garbage.

Get the fairways

head only sell you paint jobs these days anyways. I wouldn’t waste my time.
TW has a few decent leather options atm. Take a look.

Yes, they are. You could have the desired length, weight, balance, and swing weight. It was also offered with 18x20 or 16x19 string patterns. I don’t remember the price was more than the regular racquets.

dude, you look silly.
I wonder what happened to you that you have so much salt towards Head.
These comments are everywhere. I've seen comments that modern rackets are bad for 15 years now, so I assume it'll be a common statement forever with no proof or backup.
Also have seen "[racket company] hasn't made a decent frame in years" said about Wilson, Prince, and Head on here all in the last month of browsing. It's a lot of confirmation bias, placebo effect etc. imo.

I know what you are talking about, but this particular case took it to a whole new level.
- on one side crying in pretty much every Head thread how bad Head is a company by cheating consumers and not selling them the actual frames of top pro players
- on the other side praising Wilson H19 / H22, which funnily enough are not sold to general consumers and painted to look like whatever Wilson offers in regular retail

and then occasionally going to some crazy statements like Novak played with Wilson first, and then Head copied that frame and created the Radical line...
