Head FXP string... what do ppl think?...

I've had a few hits with this and been pretty impressed... seems to be fairly soft, nice spin, nice control, good feel, and power too.. basically, a very decent all-rounder and not so pricey either...

But what do others think?

R.

BTW, Anyone who's played this know how many hours pass before it dies?

Very good string..it's my primary string and can't find another one to be that well-rounded and comfortable on the arm to be honest

My thoughts are exactly the same...

Anyone else?...

Side-note: I would also be very interested to hear how ppl think it compares to RIP Control...

TIA,

R.

I was really impressed by FXP when I played with it. It is my favorite multi actually, even more so that NRG2.

It has a nice crisp feel with good pop. It offers excellent control. Sure it doesn't offer the same spin potential as polys but the extra feel allows you to control the ball better because you can feel where it is going. And what I think makes it stand out compared to NRG2 (other than the crisper feel), is the durability. Lasts quite long for a multi, perhaps because of the poly fibers that are part of the strings contruction.

It just happens though that NRG2 is more accessible to me so I use it the most. I'm looking for a multi to use as a cross and FXP is looking to be the one. I jsut want to try Maxim Touch but with all the feedback on the new formula so far, it doesn't look too promising

Have used FXP power, and lives up to its name in power. But if you are a hard hitter, even with moderate topspin you will at most only get a few hours out of these. Very poor durablity, actually worst of any string I've used. But if you use a tight 18/20 pattern mid or MP and hit flat it should do you well. its quite fun to hit with, tension lower though, around 50lbs or the catapultion effect is nullified.

tegg - I've used the just the regular FXP 16 (1.32mm) natural @ 50 lbs in an 18/20 mid (MG Pres m)... I'm hoping it will last a good while longer than a few hours and thought I'd read this was true somewhere.

Wo - high praise there!

I used FXP a good bit before I transitioned to poly. I thought it was a very high quality string for the price. A good all around multi. I still keep several packs on hand for people I string for that don't want to pay for X-One Biphase, NXT or NRG2. It has a lot of the same playing characteristics as these other strings, but it does lack some of the power (which I personally liked). Holds tension pretty well too, although I believe NXT and X-One are better.

I used FXP Power a few times as well. Even in my 18x19 pattern racquet, the durability was not very good. Of course, it looses tension so fast that it may be a good thing that it breaks pretty quick. However, when it is fresh, it really is a great performance string with lots of power and feel. Personally, I thought FXP was a better choice between the two because of the durability and tension problems I had.

I prefer it over NRG2 but not by alot. I think NRG2 has a nice soft feel and abit more spin but then again, I've only tried FXP in 16g while NRG2 in 16 and 17 (16g NRG2 has about about the same spin)

i like FXP on the 1 racquet i've tried it on so far. it's soft & has nice feel. haven't had it on long enough to comment on retaining of tension & durability.

I liked FXP Power but I don't rate it as highly as my favorite "power" string, Weiss Cannon Explosiv!. I also don't like the annoying tinny ping sound FXP power makes.

Used as crosses with polystar energy in the mains.
It's a decent string. Good feel and comfort.
Never tried as full job.

FXP Power and FXP are different strings. FXP Power has more pop and a softer feel but breaks much faster. Felt great while it lasted, especially when fresh

I have used FXP Power 17 strings a lot. I think it is soft, and has good feel and control. I don't know if it really has extra power, felt like medium power to me. Durability is not bad for me, but I am not a hard hitter and don't break strings often.

I agree with you. It doesn't have alot of power per say, but in comparison to regular FXP it has more.

In hindsight, that's my view too. It was the stock string on my FXP MPs a couple of years ago, and so the base string I was comparing to when I started trying out others. I did find it died out pretty quickly, but was more of a gradual decline rather than an immediate drop-off. I only really realised when I bought a second stick and noticed the difference with a fresh string job.

RIP Control is much lower powered. I've not played with anything else quite like it: it plays somewhere between a multi and a poly, with the comfort of the multi and low power of the poly.
