Head graphite edge 2

Hmmmm
I’ve never seen this racket until quite recently never in person only online.
I love the look and the shape. Being a head/ clubland team pro man now for some yrs. I’ve come to LOVE THE older head equipment.
I’ve often wondered how my racket would feel having a smaller face / head size. I know that the edge 2 is a 81 sq incher. That just intrigues me even more , thankfully I grew up on the 85 p staff so I don’t mis hit , and I also play with woods with no problem except for heft, which leads me to anyone that has any real hitting experience with the above frame . I have in my possession an old old graphite pro the black one USA .. it states a “ firm “ flex which I’m sure at the time was accurate. But today 2019 she’s soft . Not as soft as my club pros but closer than I’d imagined. So with that being said
Could the graphite edge play quite similiar to the head club pros? Just with a smaller head ?
I’ve never played with any edges so I didn’t know if the balance is weird and head heavier than what I’m used to. Or if it’s crazy stiff ? Lemme hear from you , you edgy edgers

I do have a Graphite Edge, Graphite Edge 2, and Comp Edge. Its been a long time since I have hit with the Graphite Edge 2 and Comp Edge. I have hit with my Graphite Edge recently. It might be too stiff for you at 55RA

i have a GE2 and tho i havent tried the other racquets you mentioned its very solid.. even more than a prestige mid imo..
i havent seen any comp edges that vsbabolat speaks of.. have only seen comp pros on fleabay which look nice too but havent tried..

If I recall correctly, the Comp Edge was available in 1984-1986. It cost less than the concurrent Graphite Edge, and supposedly had more fiberglass in its layup than did the Graphite Edge. However, when World Tennis mag lab-tested it, it was stiffer than the GE. Mysterious!

The Graphite Edge 2 appeared in the 1988 US catalog, and was the last model offered from the Edge midsize mold. I believe that it used the more open string pattern (and bumper guard) of the 1984-1985 TXE, but in the thicker-beamed Edge box-beam mold. Seems as though it was another weird 1988-only model, that Head threw out there for the staunch traditionalist!

I do have a later (1985) Graphite Edge, a Comp Edge, and a few TXE’s in my collection, but no Graphite Edge 2 to compare.

For what it's worth, the few examples of Graphite Edge I measured came out to 57 - 61 RA; my one and only Graphite Edge 2 gave a reading of 60 RA, and my two TXEs are both 64 RA. I have not measured my Comp Edge, but I wouldn't be shocked if it gave a slightly stiffer reading than the flexier Graphite Edge frames, just like during the lab test Retro mentioned.

In my limited experience, only metal frames can be counted on to give consistent flex readings for any specific model range. It is quite rare for composite frames to demonstrate the same level of consistency. On the Stringlab 2, you can obtain the flex reading on both the upstroke (when the racquet is zeroed in the flexed position, and the readings taken during the "rebound" phase) and downstroke (when the racquet is zeroed in the more relaxed position, and the readings taken during the "flex" phase, just like on the Babolat machine). On a metal racquet, Both types of readings tend to be the same and are generated quickly; not so on composite frames! I've noticed many subtle but real differences in flex characteristics (e.g., how quickly the readings are stabilized, whether they are the same on both strokes, how much they shift when multiple readings are taken, etc.) between frames that yielded the same average RA (when only a single average is recorded for each racquet). Therefore, these machine-generated numbers really don't tell the whole story even when you consider that you are mainly measuring the stiffness of the hoop. Add to this already complex equation the effect that different string types and tensions could have on the "feel" of any given frame, and you quickly understand why there is always so much discrepancy between lab-test flex readings and play-test flex indices, and why fussing over the difference of a couple of RA points is almost always an exercise in futility.

Is the graphite edge really 55RA? I have one and hit with it. It feels so soft and buttery. I wouldn’t have guessed it is 55RA.
