Head graphite edge versus Wilson PS 85

Tried the Head Graphite edge and boy was it a log.. it literally felt like I was swinging a 27 inch thick wooden heavy piece of log… when contact was made… it was nice and solid but the swing feel just was not for me…. It felt cumbersome and not svelte at all

On the other hand the Wilson PS 85 felt super svelte (

One thing it confirmed for me was that indeed frame geometry has much to do with how I like my racquets to play….

Just curious, it is now 2008. Why are you using these ancient frames?

Cause old frames rock and you can find them for cheap on the big auction site. I just play a little with the Head Composite Edge and was pleased. It was my first time with a smaller headsized frame. It was a bit spungy, actually alot spongy but served decent and kept most of my balls in the court.

I sold my Head Edge TXE because grommets are extremely difficult to find. I would go with a PS85 only because the grommets are much easier to come by.

Do you play your competitive matches with them?

Not too long ago, I played a USTA 7.5 combo doubles match with my Graphite Edge. My partner and I won fairly easily, and I never lost serve. The opponent playing the deuce side commented to me after the match that he had so much trouble returning my kick serves down the T. 'It's the Indian, not the arrow' phrase is apt in tennis, however I never felt that my racquet de jour hindered me that day.

No doubt about it, the Graphite Edge is indeed a log to swing; but it's also one of the best feeling racquets I've ever hit with. Although the PS 85 doesn't have the feel that the Edge does (and it has excellent feel also), the PS is somewhat easier to use for me due to the weight and balance. The PS is darn near perfect for an old-school racquet in that department.

edge has more plough thru, dwell time, and flex than the Prostaff. Might suit stronger high level players needing a smaller stringbed. wish they made a prostaff with that headsize!
the txe felt too stiff and lost a lot of the plough thru of the original edge but was perfect for modern players who like to crank the ball as opposed to oldskoolers who stroke it ...(the ball)...

It's only marginally smaller. I believe the GE is 81 sq. in. versus 85 for the PS.
