Head Gravity 98 16x19 (Coming in 2025!)

Did not ready the whole 3D, so probably someone already said It, but is this new 98 using the same mold of the old Yutek IG Speed Pro (which was 22mm, 98", 16x19)? Head used the Yutek Speed MP 18x20 for the Gravity Pro...

no, the original Youtek Speed Pro resembled something like a Pro Staff competitor. It was pretty stiff if I remember correctly and had an 18 mm beam. I too am curious about what lineages Head is drawing from for the new Gravity Tour 98

Oh ok, I though the Yutek was 18mm and the Yutek IG 22mm, but you probably right

I asked the local store, and it turns out they have the demo. I’ll see how it compares to my PSVS/97.

Anyone yet able to draw a short comparison to the Gt 98 and the Vcore 98? Although the VC designed more HL, the headshape and the relatively open 16x19 seem similar to me and both frames flex seem on the softer side.

Wondering if this thing will be any similar to the TC97
There are some things that they share - high launch, boost in power yet still classy feel. I prefer the feel of the gravity 98. In feel gravity 98 is closer to tc95 but tc95 feels more „solid” where the gravity is a bit more towards vcore 95 (slightly muted but still nice)

I can totally get down with this

Hi. Just finished hitting the first hour with Gravity 98. I’m putting Sync 18 at 46/44 lbs like I normally did in various 98 frames.

Very powerful, good spin potential but the power trumps spin. Launch angle is high and I cannot get enough spin to make the ball dip so it’s quite launchy. But this is because of the string choice that I go low tension and round string, I know what to do here. I’m going to go with shape string (tour bite soft 17 at 50 lbs). Should solve this issue more or less. It’s a happy problem for me. Other than that, it serves big, easy pop, backhand slice monster.

The flex feels something like 62-64 to me but I remember they said sub-60. I think they flex it at the throat but the frame itself is quite crispy and firm so that’s probably what they did to get down to that number like many other modern frames. The racket is not as maneuverable as the Blade 98 tho.

Haven’t measure the SW yet but feels like 327. It’s not low for sure.

Hello, thank you very much for your first impressions. Would you say that the racket has more power than the Blade 100 or the Vcore 98?

Tbh I'm pretty sure they will never do fully gloss, only half gloss like the rest of others.

If it has a high launch angle and too much power with your round string at 44lbs, I would put a more controlled string it in(AKA stiff) at 50lbs and see how you get on, shaped or not. And maybe try a gauge higher as well. Setting the cross 2-3lbs lower may help as well.
Or else maybe close the racquet face more with the current string.

What many of us are wondering is how the over all feel of the racquet is, and how does it compare to the likes of a Blade or Percept etc.

Based on specs the 98 tour looks like a blade hunter..but from the reviews I've seen it seems like it is much more powerful. The 58ra and thin beam sounds like it will have great feel. I currently play the blade 98 v9(16x19) and like it alot. But as a former prestige pro, vcore pro 97, and tfight 315ltd(from over a decade ago) user, this gravity is very tempting to me. Im kinda glad the reviews are coming in saying it's pretty powerful, so I won't sucked into trying it. Plus the mostly black glossy paint job looks awesome. Hopefully the the paintjob of the retail version will be something ugly like the extreme so then I definitely won't try it.

from the reviews it seems to be more of a pure aero 98 hunter. Modern spin focused players frame like the extreme tour now pro/vcore 98. Could throw in the ezone 98 in as well

I asked the local store, and it turns out they have the demo. I’ll see how it compares to my PSVS/97.

My first impression, coming from a PSVS/97 player:

My demo Gravity 98 has the same swing weight as my PSVS, but I still find it harder to swing compared to the PSVS, as it’s not head-light enough for my taste.

The feel is really great - kind of muted, but not too much. It sits between classic and modern feel, and in short, it feels better than the Blade 98 V9. Sometimes, I feel it’s stiff, like a 63-65 RA, but after hitting for a while, it feels softer like 60RA. I don’t know how to explain that feeling - it’s really unique. It’s not as flush as the Prestige Pro, but it’s not as stiff as my PSVS or PAVS, kinda like Prestige Tour 95.

It’s a really nice racquet for defensive play, as you can feel you can hit the ball back with decent pace. Sometimes I feel like I’m playing like Djokovic, lmao.

The launch angle is quite high compared to my PSVS (16x20), and it’s not my favorite. I need to hit flatter to keep it low.

I think the longer gommet with a bigger sweet spot makes the racquet “feel” head-heavy when swinging, as I can feel the weight sitting from the grommet and above. I say “feel” because on the specs, it’s not as head-heavy as my “feeling” suggests.

In short, it’s a really nice power and feel racquet with that RA. It impresses me every time I hit the ball with it. A unique one indeed. Need to play more to tell...the word “power” is a great word to add to this racquet, you can't say it's low power.

What if you just added a leather grip?

I don’t think so. It doesn’t remind me of PA98 at all. If anything, it’s more like a breed of Blade 98 + Speed MP. I think they’re going for the Blade 98 with this release.

I agree with this. Somehow it does feel head-heavier than the number says. Mine is 32.5cm balance, which is the same as my Blade 98, but somehow it does swing more beefy even though SW is just 318. It feels like 328 SW.

I think I know the reason. That head shape (bigger sweet spot) and longer grommet make it not aerodynamic enough when moving through the air, so we feel more resistance. But it’s also the reason behind the power it gives. It’s really a stable power racquet, way more power than Blade 98 & I'm sure about that. I will add weight to the handle to see how it goes.

What you're describing sounds a bit like what I feel with the Boom. It seems to swing heavier than it's SW. That changed head shape makes the head of the racquet slower and less aerodynamic.

Hi Tan, Thank you for your review. If you compared this racquet to Ezone 98, what is similar and different?

Slightly thicker bream, too. But yeah, the tear drop head shape puts more mass near the tip.

The pattern will be pretty much the same, the current colour will be exchanged to "ultra pro PJ" and there will be some gloss for sure. Also some font changes are there.
Tan Tennis showed the final retail paint job on his review video. Its kind of like the Speed but with different colors and more gloss/matte vs that Speed rubbery texture.

Hashtagtennis leaked it before anyone, that image on Tan's looks like his/hers. The upadated pic looks sweet. This 98 is going to dig into my savings account lol

Just saw the final PJ, what a beauty. Think of the boom PJ but with the wilson ultra pro blue instead of the light one.
is it something different from the one in the tan tennis video which looks mostly the same except with the new lines?

Tan Tennis has the prototype, the design matches the rest of their lines when you think about the two tone design on their Auxetic 2.0 racquets. However, think glossy black and Gravity (Auxetic 1.0) blue.
