Head Gravity 98 16x19 (Coming in 2025!)

PH tennis just released PA98 comparison, and they say PA has both higher power and spin, that GT98 has low launch angle and suitable for flat hitters

But they also list 320 SW for GT98 vs 327 for PA98…

Maybe it was their string setup? From everything I have read the GT98 (nearly every video available to date) would not be overly ideal for flat hitters because it needs spin to keep the ball from flying out of the court.

I generally enjoy what those guys publish, they are fresh air, and usually reasonable.

But this puzzled me.

Yeah they are kind of goofy at times and I don't mind their videos. It's one of those things where you can give the same racquet to 10 different players and there's going to be at least 2 people that have completely different experiences than the rest. It's why there's on one racquet for everyone.

Its surely lower than the PA98, as well as the power level overall. Doesn’t mean automatically that it has a low angle in total.
I did not watch the video but replied to the highlight by the poster that posted it.
I also have tried the PA98 for 12 seconds before throwing it away, therefore, cannot compare it to the GT98. I do not believe these two should be compared.

Have you played with aero98? Can you compare? I have aero98 and could do with more power in a 16x20... my exone hits harder then my aero98 but I like the open pattern on aero98 for easier spin
Aero 98 is plenty powerful... Maybe tweak the string first.

Yeah same, I’m hoping since we’ll be the first batch of demos going out that the strings will be a little closer to what I would really use…

I did a few different combos. Started with my standard, VS Bab gut 1.30 @54 (15%) and Hawk Rough @48 (5%).
Did a full poly Lynx Tour 1.25 at 50/48
Even did the Hawk Power at 52/50....too much
Ended up with the Hawk Rough in the mains, don't recall what I had in the crosses, want to say another poly, and that worked better for me from the launch angle perspective.
I tested it for about 9 hours.
Did you also try the new Gravity MP 2025? If so, any thoughts about it versus the two previous versions, please? Thank you.

I have not.
Focusing on the 2025 Radical test next
would love any info on the new Radicals... Still stiff and boardy withe the new aux2.0? Have they dropped the RA?
that Open string pattern on the Grav98 makes me hesitate as I play allot of doubles.
Thanks

I will test them next week and report initial feedback
I also think Radical Pro would be much more popular if they made it kinda closer to Prestige line (more feel, pocketing and comfort). The current version is maybe more effective but boring to play with. Lacks in feel but gets more power and linear penetration through the court. I guess its always something for something.

Unfortunately I no longer demo from TW with poly. The tension ranges are too unpredictable, and I have gotten some that seem to be around 50 and some that seem to be around 30. Let us know what you think of the new Gravities!

I ended up ordering the gravity pro, tour, and mp for demo. Since I have access to a home stringer, Im going to be restringing all three at 50/48 lb with tourna silver (not tour).
Will come back after trying the three for a week

Can you restring demo racquets?

The GT98 retail and 2025 (Auxetic 2.0) Radical MP and Pro arrived and will hit with them today and post my initial thoughts, mainly around stiffness, comfort, feel, feedback, later today.
I will start another thread on the Radicals.
Same mold right?

Some early reviewers have commented about the unusual sound of the 2025 GT98 due to its ”half-cap” grommets. Do these grommets also alter the feel of the racquet? It looks like the 2025 Gravity Pro and MP have similar “half-cap” grommets. Would those new grommets also fit previous versions of the Gravity Pro and MP? Do you think this might be worth exploring? Thanks for your input, as always.

They should fit. The string pattern is unchanged. And I’d say YES, these grommets are better

Just a quick update from my side on the GT98.
I replaced the TK82S pallets with the TK82.
I added silicone in the handle, making it slightly more HL.
Final spec, 335g strung (VS Bab @54 (15%), Hawk rough @48 (5%)) with OG, 335SW, 32.3cm balance.
Beautiful stick! Great feel, communicative (not muted). Great power, spin and control. The launch angle (what is had issues with testing the prototype with TK82S back in 2023) is excellent, not much different from my GT100 18x20. But much easier access to spin and power while maintaining control.
I also found it to be a very stable stick.

I’ll continue updating.

Nice specs! Did you test with 16g or 17g VS gut? I would guess 16g if you didn't add any lead to the hoop to achieve that SW. Thx for the update!

Got my demo from TW, plastic still on handle. Came strung Alu Power, was obviously fresh, hard to tell if it was 1.25 or 1.3. Best guess, tension was 50.

I’m just going to compare my experience to all the internet celebrities. My reference frame is a 360+ speed mp.

Things I Agree with:
1. Exceptional 1HBH, including slice.
2. Short angle topspin on both wings are effortless.
3. Not too muted, nice gentle and not overpowering feedback
4. Because I can swing it so easily/fluidly, power is substantial and 100% controllable with spin. It’s insanely whippy, like a slingshot
5. Very comfortable

Things I disagree with:
1. Too launchy, I could hit any and every shot, heavy spinners to flat slappers. Smoking shots just above the tape at times but with loads of spin.
2. Too sluggish - is complete nonsense. Added 3.5 grams @ 12 and overgrip and this thing felt like a crisco glazed slip n slide through the air. Took almost zero effort to start the swing.
3. Mixed comments on stability- it’s plenty stable and easily picks up heavy shots near baseline on the rise on both sides.

I will replace the strings with sync 1.25. I can’t imagine it will change today’s specs, much if any.

Strung specs with 3.5 g @ 12 and gamma OG, no damper or other mods.

Static 331,5
SW 331
Bal - 326/327 ish per balance beam

I’ll measure strung twist weight before cutting out Alu tonight.

Finally, pre-lead SW was 317.

Final update on specs, twist weight is 13,5 on Briffidi.

Briffidi TW has been lower on average the tennis warehouse TW postings.

13,5 has been pretty much the mean on most frames give or take.

2 outliers were my 360+ mp speed (14) and pure aero original (14,3)

-i got to test it today, the head.g.TOUR.98
-as you stated, it is not a "power racquet" per say,,
-this racquet WANTS speed!,
- its been mentioned/touched on in several videos, the sound!
-the grommets at top, have a "whisthel" to it, meaning if you swing fast enough, youll hear it
-it is not a loud sound, nor annoying, its actually like a extra notable sound to try to achieve proper head speed, IMO anyway
-i found the racquet a tad bit heavy, ill need to try again and see if that was me (energy level today) and or if it hurts the racquet performance
-i do like easy swing on the 1HBH! ,(compared to the old gravity.pro 100" ive tried before)
-i also liked the sweet spot, plenty big and/or non notable

-BTW, the racquet is not a toy!, it's a solid racquet for serious hitting
-you also touched on ball depth, and i also found it interesting how i would need to modify my swing to get it deep
-i think it needs some getting used to!

-i was not completely sold on this racquet today, could be the strings!
-i always hated head.hawk/power!? and today was no different
-i strung this racquet with the supplied strings, @47lbs
-the new string (coming soon) head.hawk.TOUR would have been a better option IMO
-i think 4me head.lynx, lux.element, yonex.pt.pro would be better
-more testing to follow
-second time out with this racquet
-liked it a bit more this time

-this time i strung it with yonex.poly.tour.rev, but 18g 1.20mm (only 18g string i had!)
-i did this to bring DOWN the weight AND the swing weight!
-the racquet is deceptively heavy.ish, but the swing weight is up there, slightly out of my comfort zone

-i also brought the tension down by 1lb, so 46lbs

-i liked the swing weight now!, not as heavy as the first day
-ill keep this setup fo the remainder of the play test (y)

-spin was great, as to be expected with a 18g string
-power was also increased, but i think i can move the tension back up maybe 1 or 2 lbs next time with the 18g strings

-people with fast swings and/or younger arms would not have issues with 17g string
-i personally liked it with the 18g string!, but again, mainly for the swing weight reduction it offers
-more to come!

@dr325i

Can you compare the G98 with the boom pro 2024. the shape of the head is irresistibly reminiscent of the BP, and there is also the balance of 31 cm, which suits me personally much more. Can you compare the power, control and maneuverability of these two rackets

I think the power level is similar (I only spent an hour with the Boom Pro), The GT98 is much more comfortable and communicative.
The Gravity layups are very old school head (comfort) while Boom is modern, crisp and muted layup.

Got my demo today. I measured the hoop dims with a caliper and it’s exactly same as the gravity mp. Hoop length 12 to 6 is exactly same as MP. Upper half of the hoop is almost same as MP but it starts to taper down from bottom half to the throat. Main string spacing is very similar to MP. Cross spacing gets progressively wider towards the top like blade pro/Vcore but not as dramatic. Poly it came with was so loose, it was unplayable. ERT measured 25 DT, which is 10pts lower than my preferred so I’ll cut it out and and string it up to give it a proper review.

My demo also came with plastic wrap on the handle, same strings as dl32 above. Took it out on the court on Xmas eve at night like the tennis sicko I am, and had a great time.

Coming from a 2021 GPro for reference, felt like it had a relatively high launch angle (not like Vcore high but noticeable for me), good access to spin, great slice, nice feel, and decent stability. On first impression I don’t think this is the ‘power’ stick that some people have labeled it - I was hitting a heavier ball with the GPro - but it is easy to use, especially on defense, and it does reward big cuts. That whistling sound is real, but it only happens on full swings. Needs further testing, but so far so good.

Was fortunate enough to hit with a 2025 Tour 98 this morning. Quick background: I normally use the Blade v8 98 16x19 and Textreme 98, both with leather grips and weigh 335g and 325sw. Recovering from shoulder tightness/inflammation, got a cortisone shot and have been in PT and hitting for the first time in almost 3 months. Like/prefer flexible racquets with poly mains/syn gut crosses. Had a Textreme 100x 305 and Percept 97 with me as well, all strung with multis. A few notes: the Tour 98 played very forgiving with a generous sweetspot for a 98 and had plenty of power, similar to the Textreme 100x, if not a bit more. The strings were brand new though (Velocity 16 at 53lb). It measured 323g and 317sw strung but played very stable. Very soft as expected esp with the multis, the feel was not unlike that of the Percept 97, which to me is very soft and comfy with great feel. The launch angle is maybe a bit higher than my Blade, but then again very different strings on the Tour. So far I can see a pretty easy transition if I were to switch to/add this stick. I've not played with the current generation Gravity at all so can't offer a comparison here. Played a total of about 40 min with the stick and really liked it.

Good racket, but oddly stiff for a gravity in my experience. Hitting this and the pro back to back, will report back more findings.

Serve was killer with the 98

My first thought today was “there is no way this is 59RA.” Did you note what strings were in your demo?

Hawk power. First time trying it, but man it was crispy. Not terrible crispy, but not at all what I was expecting. Almost too much pop for a gravity for me, got a little lost on the stringbed off the backhand
