Head Gravity 98 16x19 (Coming in 2025!)

I ques the only question now is, how to string them :)
ADVISE: Mains then crosses.

Actually I've tried a few different string combinations. I started out with Hawk Power 17g. I usually string my Prestige Tour 95 at 57/55. I went up 1# on M/X. I found that within 2 hours the string had already lost 25 % in tension (I use a Debeers ERT300). Cut that out and changed to VS Gut 16g Mains and Hawk Rough 17g crosses. My go to hybrid. I did 58.5/56.5 with prestretch on the GUT 15%. This was an amazing combination. Great spin, power, suffered some on touch in comparison to my Prestige Tour 95. So I wanted to see what if I used a more dead stiff poly. So I switched out to Diadem Pro-X 16L. This is a shaped poly like a Hyper G, but has been good at holding tension. I did 58/56 with this string in a full bed. I've been 2 weeks now and about maybe 16 hours of play and now bagged out, even still the last hit I had was not terrible, just balls started going long, and kickers not kicking as they normally do. I find that the GT98 is quite a monster against string. My next go will be a shaped poly16g (maybe the Pro X or Hawk Lynx Tour), on a round 16g stiff poly maybe Hawk Power. I think the additional thickness should give a little more longevity.

The issue is very much the open stringbed pattern. As such fewer strings are bearing the burden of the ball on each strike, they're also compelled to move more since there are fewer intersections implicated on each strike. This is what's causing the rapid depreciation of the tension. It's also why the racquet is such a joy to hit. It's instantly given me free depth on every shot. Just swing out. The current Prestige Tour 95 is an amazing stick, but, not close to the shape of ball produced by the GT98. I also get better pop on serves, and better kick on serves with the GT98. I've been able to find the deuce slice wide serve and the AD "T" slice serve for aces more with this stick than any other, That's not coincidence.

Hope this helps.

yesterday I got my 2 new ones :)

since I bought them at Head dealer, I went also with Head strings. One is strung with Hawk Power and another with Lynx Touch. Wil se how they will behave and then change from there.

Ok so finally had a chance to play with mine after a longass shipping.
I've posted my info before but I guess this can be useful for the players who are reading feedbacks. I'm a rec player. 2023 GPro was my main since its release. Everyone was saying it was way over my league to play with such a beast but I stubbornly played with it anyway. And honestly it did wonders to my game since it required to go in and commit 100%. But 315+gr were killing my wrist. GPro is a killer stick but I could never play with it more than 1 set.

And here comes GTour98.
I did buy into the hype this thread and everyone on internet for some reason caused, instead of getting vanilla updated version of GMp.

So what can I say after a session with coach and 1 set of doubles.
It's... different. I do agree with some of commenters who mentioned that it's not just a lighter version of GPro.
I won't sort my observations by pros and cons because I'm not really sure about them yet. And keep in mind honeymoon stuff and etc.

- Very maneuverable. Obv compared to bulky GPro's but I also had my older Babolat Project17, banana PA and previous Ezone with me so I've tried hitting a bit with each.
- It IS launchy as some people have noticed. It flied to the moon every time with my default return swing.
- Laser accuracy of GPro is not there but I guess it was given with the lessened weight and 16x19 strings.
- Despite 305 gr, it still requires lots of commitment, footwork and swing. Whereas you could just bonk the ball with GPro and if your position was good, you'd crash the ball. GTour needs an actual swing.
- Sweet spot is noticeably smaller than GPro which is also given with the reduced head size.
- It spins for some reason. Why does it even spin? GPro could spin technically but it was like an after thought. GTour wants to spin. And boy you're gonna need this spin to offset the launchiness.
- I felt really good on serve.
- My 2h backhand didn't go well at all. I've tried to experiment with 1h, but it was nowhere close to the explosive 2hbh GPro provided.
- The store I've bought it at has offered complimentary strings. My usual Hawk/Lynx wasn't in the list they could do so I've picked Confidential. I'm not sure yet it's a good string for this racket. Can't feel control at all. It was done in my usual 22-23 kgs. This tension worked great for GPro but it somehow feels loose here.
- I'm not a fan of glossy finish mainly due to how it gets run down quickly after some months of play. But maaaaan it looks amazing on this GTour. Everyone around has instantly noticed it.

Sounds kinda like a massive downgrade from the solid control machine GPro was? It kinda felt that at first. But then I've tried to adjust to it and holy heck it blasted! I think this is the tennis I always wanted to play: maneuverable all-court attack. It forced me to run, to put the feet in proper position, not to be hasty. I finally could feel my wrist move the way I wanted it to.
And the whistle sound everyone has mentioned? It feel soooo satisfying when you make a nice winner and you hear this sound. It's like an indicator that you did good!

Overall I'm still on a fence if it's a proper Gravity racket or a mistakenly marked new product line. Will keep testing!

Thanks for reading! Sorry for the lack of cohesion.

Great feedback. I think less control is indeed a given compared to the GPro but did you find it hard to get directional control? Ive noticed you mentioned it needs spin to keep the ball in. But how about redirecting the ball and pinpoint precision?

Thanks

But how about redirecting the ball and pinpoint precision?
For me, it’s not doing this against high incoming pace as naturally as tank-of-a-frame GPro. You have to swing at the ball to make it go precise, and to make clean contact. If so — no problem. Otherwise ball may easily drift wide or float up.

Gravity Tour 98 w/ Tour Bite 16L

HIT THROUGH SPIN players with really enjoy it : no issues with Launch angle or spin, for a racket with an open looking pattern it produces great flat shots.

LOOP UP SPIN players will be so so : will complain about Launch angle being too high and producing weak fluffy shots.

End Review :-D
Hit through spin players got me.. I never thought about my game that way but its a great description. This single line might make me buy GT98 instead of other frames I am considering ahhaha

I was playing with the GT stock and against my 10 UTR friend it makes it easy to generate the racket head speed to respond to a heavy ball. But I don’t have the stability I normally like when flattening the ball out and really finishing the point. This is my most underspec frame with 3.2g at 3 and 9 and leather grip

Strung with 17g Firestorm
334.4g
32.56 cm
330.2 SW
15.1 TW

I don’t understand the choice to not go with 18x20 or at least the more closed 16x19 of the extreme/radical. This frame could be a member of the speed line instead imo.

I find it to be excellent as-is and with open pattern. Easy access to whatever is needed. The only negative is that strings suffer.
As mentioned above, this frame is very different from anything Speed Auxetic 2.0.

It’s easy to wish it had a tighter pattern, but then would it have the same ease of power and great spin potential? Probably not

When I string it up and I see how spread the crosses are I wish it were tighter. I wish it had 8 mains in the throat but then it wouldn’t be the racket i love. But who knows maybe a flexier radical with a less boxy beam is what I need…

i’m just a sucker for the more closer patterns haha

Go with Prestige MP then.
i currently play with the 360+ Prestige MP. I tried the new MP, but i wasn’t a fan. The thing about the gravity to me was the more dense and pinpoint accuracy of the 18x20. So that’s what I had hoped for with the gt98. that being said from the short few minutes i hit with it, i did play well.
:)

I’m a big fan of Head Lynx Touch but I broke my strings within a couple of weeks using the T98 (it normally lasts me months.) I’m now trying Restring Zero and it’s a game changer for me. strongly recommend a try. Wicked spin and accuracy on groundies and serves. In short — has me “hunting winners”. They say the tension maintenance is outstanding so if it lasts me more than 2 weeks it’s a switch for me.

Poly lasts you months???
OK…

Try lynx Tour... Re-string Zero is really bad for GT 98.. The tension drops heavily after 2h (snapback is still ok).. and balls are flying.

My question was actually which fits better the stick.. Shaped or round.. Not hybrid between them.. I am more of a round poly guy but I think it has to do with my current racquet.. I used to play with shaped strings in my previous setup..

I have been using my regular setup (VS Babolat 1.30 in the mains and Hawk Rough crosses) but went up in tension due to more power (vs. GT100): 54 --> 56 / 48 --> 51. It works great.
I pop the crosses after a few sessions (rotating 3 sticks) and restring the crosses only once or twice before cutting everything out.

Great to know. I will buy the new GTour98 when weather is better so may have to adjust my regular gut/poly tension (normally 55/50 on my old GTours)

has this been the general experience with the GT98? good QC? anyone that got a big under or over spec one?

Ill be buying one in a month or so and I am wondering if I should use the matching service.
Mine was 302/303g, 31.6-31.7cm, 287SW all unstrung. I think one user here had one with 285sw. Hightest I saw online 303sw I think. But this was across batches.

My personal rackets are all over the place. But the ones I have ordered for people have been close together

Is there any suggestion on how to get as close to target specs as possible buying online? 30 bucks which is the customization fee in TW seems a lot when you dont actually want any customization..

Pick a shop which offers free return shipping. Order 3, 5, 8, 12... as many rackets as you wish. Measure them, pick the ones that meet your criteria and return the rest.

@dr325i said his came in at 335 strung sw which means it was probably around 300 unstrung?

I believe that was a one of the initial demo/influencer ones though...

These were the 6 I got to pick from. I chose #3

With Plastic On Handle.
1 310g/31.8cm/292sw
2 308/31.9/292
3 308/31.8/293
4 308/32/294
5 309/32.2/298
6 309/32.2/294

BUT BUT BUT absolutely use the matching service. I wouldn't even risk it with Yonex

Why do you want to be the unlucky/lucky one?

makes sense, I guess I am trying to find a good excuse to save 30 bucks and get screwed ahhaha..

Insteresting, none of the racquets was 305g or less.. Probably they come from the same batch?

These were all with the plastic on the handle. Plastic is 1.5-2g. I cant confirm if same batch.

Gravity MP is a nice frame but needs to be modded to be more stable. Compared to the GT98, MP is whippier and easier to pick up and play. While MP does feel more powerful than the GT98, I do feel like the power/control cap is higher on the GT98 if you have the skills to utilize it. GT98 is not a beginner friendly frame, but still easier than the Pro. I think Head did a great job of having three distinctive Gravitys for players to choose from. I would recommend the MP over the GT98 for recreational players as it's a very forgiving frame with a 16x20 pattern that holds tension really well. Strings don't last in the GT98 compared to the MP or Pro.
Where would you add weight to make it more stable? 3&9? Handle?

Got my G98T matched 308.1/32.2 295.47SW and 308.1/32/295.50SW, quite happy with that.
After a few hits, I still find it quite hard to trust (compared to my GPro). What would be the best string for the lowest launch angle and the least "launchy" string for these sticks?
Didn't like RPM R at all (neither in the GPro). Lynx Tour seems to work well, but I prefer round strings.
Already bumped my tension to 24 kg...
