I think most HEAD sticks over 300g have the weighted trapdoor
Yes. I think since Graphite +. But I think the 2025 Gravity Tour 98 doesn't have the weighted trapdoor.

No weighted TD in the retail GT98Does the standard grip (trapdoor) come with the weighted trapdoor or is there no added weight?
DankeNo weighted TD in the retail GT98
It does have that bump inside but it is not weighted
I have been for a few months but looking for a little extra I think. Still getting bullied a little bit on defenseTry it stock first -- the two I have are very stable. I usually put some weight at 10/2 in the frames I used previously and don't feel the need on this one.
What string setup? The GT98 has tons of weight on the sides and lower hoop. The stock twist weight is higher than most retail sticks. If anything it needs a little weight added near the tip/between 11&1 or 10&2 because it plays a little dead there due to lack of stiffness/weight in that area imo. Such a great stick, can’t put mine down and have been back and forth between the GT98 and 2023 PA98 for the last year or so.
Defense is this racquets weak point, at least for me. Maybe you could try adding some under the grip, to make it more head light.I have been for a few months but looking for a little extra I think. Still getting bullied a little bit on defense
I had a leather grip but too much hand and arm pain, plus it was slowing down my pronation but 1.5g at 12 sounds greatDefense is this racquets weak point, at least for me. Maybe you could try adding some under the grip, to make it more head light.
1.5g @12 will increase plow and make upper hoop feel less dead.
Any stiff, 1.30, round poly between 52-55 lb. Prob not the best setup if you want more forgiveness on defense, but I generally do not have issues with it that I wouldn’t have with other sticks. Fwiw, this stick responds best to linear, direct contact, hitting through the court, rather than brushing. I obvi don’t know your game or level but thought that might be a helpful cue…current setup strung with overgrip and dampener is 329, 33.1, 331 btw. Basically stock with 1-1.5 grams in upper hoop for matching purposes. What string setup?
No, it'll make it more clunky. Add weight at 12 if u need or at the throat.Any verdict on weight at 10/2 vs 3/9 for this frame? See both seem pretty popular
Ok great, that’s about where I’m at 300sw unstrung to match but usually a 1.20-1.25 round poly. Yes brushing can be great but definitely through the court is more effective the sweet spot feels much larger when drivingAny stiff, 1.30, round poly between 52-55 lb. You will find examples hereDoes anyone know how many SW points change between string gauges?
Why don’t you try VCORE 98? Gravity 98, Boom Pro or something like Blade 98 will all feel soft and more demanding.Anybody have experience comparing GT98 vs Boom Pro? I’m coming from a Vcore 100 which I feel has too much power and too high launch, where if I’m not hitting aggressive topspin it’s too easy to sail long. Want something that I can hit out with without fear of the odd launch that sails a mile deep. I’ve tried the GT98 (with 4g of lead added in butt cap) but haven’t got my hands on the Boom Pro yet. GT98 felt pretty nice, definitely felt I could swing aggressively, but maybe a little too soft especially in defense, so wondering how Boom Pro might compare to GT98 or Vcore 100. Thanks
I came from a Vcore 100 to the GT98 and couldnt be happier. I have no experience with the Boom Pro though. The GT98 did exactly what you are asking for me. My balls are sailing long way less often then with the vcore if I use less spin. It is softer on defence as you mentioned though, gotta keep the footwork in good shape.Anybody have experience comparing GT98 vs Boom Pro? Before my current Vcore 100 (6th gen) I used the Vcore Tour 97 330g (unstrung) for like 10 years, and before that the RD Ti 70 Long for like 7 years. Both relatively heavy, quite headlight, and 16x20 and 18x20 respectively. Not sure I could handle quite that much weight anymore, but those feel more like home versus the VCore 100 (I did add like 10-12 grams to handle of vcore100 but still that only gets it to like 325g strung and 7pts headlight)Why don’t you try VCORE 98? No that “it won’t suit you” — but it’s a big leap of a switch. What did you use before VCORE 100, what feels like home to you?
Tried 10/2 and much preferred 3/9. Definitely didn't want too much more power, but did want extra stability.Any verdict on weight at 10/2 vs 3/9 for this frame? See both seem pretty popular
Well then you kind of tried totally different end of range with powerful tweener… The question is whether there’s anything you liked, like stiffness, forgiveness. Or you want back to flexy ones, just lighter than 330g?Before my current Vcore 100 (6th gen) I used the Vcore Tour 97 330g (unstrung) for like 10 years, and before that the RD Ti 70 Long for like 7 years. Hah you’re right! I liked the easy power if I was caught out of position, but other than that there was very little I liked about the Vcore 100. I think I’m a bit worried about the power on the GT98 particularly on defense, but guess I could try to bump the swingweight up a bit if it’s an issue. The string in my demo GT98 also felt very low tension, which just made things feel soft and mushy, so some new crispy string in the low-mid 50’s should help with that too.Well then you kind of tried totally different end of range with powerful tweener… The question is whether there’s anything you liked, like stiffness, forgiveness. Think pretty much anyone will tell you the Boom Pro has more control, not quite as soft, a bit less power, significantly less spin, lower launch, sweet spot even further towards the top than GT. Pretty unanimous in the comparisons I've seen.Anybody have experience comparing GT98 vs Boom Pro? Wow almost the opposite of what I would have expected. I’ll have to try BP before deciding on GT98.Think pretty much anyone will tell you the Boom Pro has more control, not quite as soft, a bit less power, significantly less spin, lower launch, sweet spot even further towards the top than GT. InterestingCurrent best playing specs for me on average (have 4 matched but with very slight differences; 3 of em have lead at 12, 3 & 9, and tail, one of em is stock with only tail)
330 g
331 sw
32.7 cm
13.6 - 13.9 TW
Still my fav string in these are M8 1.25mm and Lynx Tour champagne 1.20mm. Close 3rd and 4th are Tour Sniper and Hawk Rough both 1.25mm.
Indeed. Almost the opposite to what I thought after playing with both .. so definitely worth trying them yourself.Wow almost the opposite of what I would have expected.
He could try 130 RPM blastI hit with a junior today, he popped rpm blast 1.25 twice in 30 minutes in his 98, pretty ridiculous. Fast racquet head speed, lots of brush, modern technique but perhaps excessive noise in the motion. He hits awesome from hand feeds, plenty of spin and penetration from both sides.
The impact sounds like gunshots and there is a slight shoosh sound when he really goes for it. Lots of shape from both sides but hits long pretty often (drills and live balls). I wonder if he might benefit from an easier stick, but let's see how he develops. In contrast another junior he trains with uses the mp stock and he's able to find the court more often and at what seems like 70% effort. If you tell the 98 junior to relax and focus on control he actually steps up his intensity and swings harder. It works though, he'll make more balls but his effort seems closer to 90%.
Anyway I was tempted to buy the 98 but after watching this junior play for a couple of weeks I'm going to put that idea to rest. I'm not putting in 4 hours a day to adjust and tame this stick, and I'm definitely not restringing every week.
That’s been my go to setup and it’s fantastic in this stick: signum pro poly plasma pure 1.28 mains and luxilon 4G 1.25 crosses at 52 lbs…Has anyone tried a soft poly main with a stiffer poly cross?
I haven't seen any GT98 out in the wild yet...occasionally I will see the Pro or MP. Such an amazing, underrated stick...more for us when they go on sale!Is it just me or.....?
I play in a huge tennis community and play with many different players (mostly 4.0+ level) and have not seen a single player play with the Gravity Tour 98. Not 1. I wonder why this raquet failed to go mainstream like the Blade 98 or Pure Aero 98. I am not sure if it was the lack of marketing or if players were reluctant to try a new version of the Gravity line or the paint job? don't get me wrong - I absolutely love the fact that I get to play with what seems like a "unique" stick or at least one that not every other opponent uses. But I am just curious as to why this is not as popular as it should be (at least in my eyes).
If you are a GT98 enthusiast, how often do you come across players that also play with it?
btw - if anyone wants to try out a string that pairs nicely with it. Check out Toroline Snapper. Looks and plays great overall.
Not sure how much effort was put into the marketing, but it got a lot of excitement that turned into mixed reviews from influencers.the lack of marketing or if players were reluctant to try a new version of the Gravity line
All those things are relatively true. Strings break very fast, and the frame is launchy outside of the sweet spot and to control the launch you need to swing it fast. Not sure how much effort was put into the marketing, but it got a lot of excitement that turned into mixed reviews from influencers.
I think most people like the paint job.
The Gravity line is pretty love it or hate it, it seems. Not too surprised that a smaller head size version didn't get huge mainstream appeal, especially without high profile players using the actual frame on the ATP circuit.
I think the very high launch angle and tendency to break strings were things mentioned in reviews that scared a lot of people off. I also heard multiple comments that the frame kinda needs you to be all gas all the time which could scare more people off.
Those features lead to potential buyers having thoughts like "the aero98 hits bigger with less effort and breaks fewer strings" and "this is like an extreme pro with a weird head shape and less precision" or "why would I use this instead of the 2023 vcore 98 if I want this head shape and lots of spin" and "why would I use this advanced player's racquet over the other options if not one pro I have heard of wants to touch it"
The 27 version will probably have hybor. I would like if they added a cross to make it 16x20 like the pro stock or tightened up the patterns a bit. Kinda weird that it’s in the gravity lineup but doesn’t really play like it.Yea, I initially thought the downside was the aded spin potential would lead to me braking more strings. I broke mine after a couple of weeks when I first got it. But switched strings and now a non issue.
I knew that I would have to "go big" with this stick so I used it as a way to improve my game (force me to hit gas all the time) and I think it has worked. I guess not many people are willing to adjust their games too drastically.
BTW - i was joking about selling you my girls. They will be with me for a long while. And you are 100% spot on -- the 27 version will prob just be new paint and I know it can't be any better than my blacked out prototype version. So I will wait for the 29 version when new technology will be discovered by AI.
I think it depends on the type of string you are using. I play ~3 hrs about 4-5 times per week and alternate between 2 GT 98. Since I swithced to grapplesnake m8 and now snapper, can play almost 2 months before I notice and significant fraying or tension maintenance. All those things are relatively true. I mean I was breaking 1.3 gauge hawk touch in like 3-4 hits so like 5-7 hours. And for your Ferrari comparison a Ferrari handles just as good at lower speeds as it does at faster speeds. If you try to guide the ball with the GT98 you’re in for a bad time. And it’s very punishing on defense. I think at the 10 Utr + range you can overcome those difficulties with skill but at 7-8 like me you’re better off with a lot of other frames. I will say when you are having a good day with the GT98 nothing else beats it but when you’re having a bad day it’s horrendous. I have played some of my best tennis and worst tennis with this racket. When you are trying to be competitive you need something more reliable even at the sacrifice of top end playability.I think it depends on the type of string you are using. Launchy? for sure if swing is anything less than 85% capacity. Otherwise the faster the better the raquet performs. The Ferrari of raquets as I refer to it.
Make it a 16x20Not really sure how they are going to make the new version better tbh
