Head Gravity MP - 2021 vs 2023?

Pretty pissed that my car got broken into last night, along with it was my racket bag with my beloved 2019/2021 Gravity MP. I’m hoping to avoid a racket hunt if the Auxetic version plays similar. I have access to one at work (I’m an instructor) and so far the demo plays firmer than I anticipated - granted that I strung mine with gut.

looking for feedback to hear whether my experience is in point.

Not really looking for feedback between MP vs Pro etc. strictly looking for 2021 vs 2023.

That sucks pal. Can't offer any advice as I have a 1st gen Grav Pro and a 3rd Grav Tour. Never played with an MP, just wanted to offer my condolences for your loss.

The only difference is Auxetic so it plays essentially the same. The biggest difference will be the the specifications and how close your 2019 was to spec compared to the new one.

@badmice2 - So sorry for you; that sucks. I've had my car rummaged through several times, enough that at this point I just make sure to never leave anything in it that I couldn't otherwise do without if push came to shove. I know that doesn't help get your stuff back, but at least something to keep in mind, if you can help it. It also helps to keep your car from getting too filled up with stuff at any given time.

As for the Auxetic Gravity MP, it should play a little more muted but solid on contact, otherwise similar (presuming both frames are on spec). Beyond that, I know this would burn a set of gut, but perhaps see if you can put a set in that shop racquet, at your normal tension. Then you'll truly know what you're dealing with.

I'm going to bet the biggest difference between the two is the gut string that you're used to. I use the new Auxetic Gravity MP's and love them, I also use Gut in the mains and poly in the crosses, both 16 gauged.
Sad that someone stole your stuff though.

I'm sorry badmice 2 for the stolen racquets! it sucks!!!!
I'm very interested in the differences as well as i would like to get the new Auxetic GMP mostly because it has a 58 flex but if the previous model plays similarly and it is harm friendly as well it would save me a lot of $.

I believe the two rackets are very similar but the 2023 has slightly better stability and better feel. Not saying from experience as I'm looking to buy the 2023 gravity mp soon and that's what my research has gathered.

Yeah.. just like the other contributors I don't have the answer but wanted to present my condolences.

Also wanted to suggest some sort of tribute/condolence thread where we can all mourn together the loss or demise of beloved rackets, even those that succumbed to our own out of control rage at netting sitters.

I have played extensively with the 2019/2021 Gravity MP as it was my son’s racquet of choice. Last year we playtested the 2023 version and we both liked it so much, it has become his current main stick. He’s an 18yr old 5.0 with effortless explosive power off both wings.

I would say that the 2023 version is leaps and bounds better than the 2019/2021 version. Both versions perform very similarly in terms of control, spin and power. However, the 2023 version has noticeably better stability in the hoop and suppression of undesireable vibrations on off-centre strikes, particularly towards the tip.

I feel your pain over the theft of your gear. Hopefully you’ll find the Auxetic Gravity MP a positive and worthwhile upgrade.

Thank all for the feedback.

I had a chance to hit a little bit with it at work today with their crappy string job. The hoop does feel a bit firmer than previous gen...not sure what to make of it right now.

As bad as the older paint jobs were, i gotta say im so used to it that I really dislike the '23. Can't exactly point to why, but something about it feels off.

I’m sorry to hear about this. Be sure to check your local Facebook marketplace and also eb to see if you can find your stuff.

Ahhh, 'effortless explosive power', I remember those days . . . . Now being over 50 a memory is all this is.

I initially tried the Gravity Tour first iteration and could not click with it. All pieces were good -- the feel, weight (to modify), feedback, power, spin, control...
I was intrigued by a review of the Auxetic version and tried it and never looked back. This time, all the good pieces work in unity well. I switched to it and have been using them last 6+ months. As others pointed out -- a great blend of the feel/feedback, power, spin, control.

As for the paintjob, I simply could not click with the first two iterations of the Gravity line paintjobs -- it was stuck in my head that I hit BH better with the red side or yellow or whatever... I love this "stealthy" paintjob.
Additionally, the paint is thin on it, and the bumper is too short, hence, all 4 of my rackets are badly scratched just under the bumper end (2025 version grommets will fix it)

Seeing as I’m also a member of the 6th decade club, I feel ya, bro!
Me & my Pro Staff 6.0 95 . . . THE greatest racquet ever made. I never had to worry in matches as my serve would always come through for me and I rarely got broken. Had it recorded at 126mph when I was in my 20s. Now, be lucky to reach half that!!
