Head Gravity Pro cut down to 26.75?

Hello TT peps,

I’ve been playing with the 2023 Auxetic Head Gravity pro which I was able to find that was 5 grams under spec. I love this frame but I’m having trouble with the mauverability. I don’t want to switch frames if I don’t have to…

It’s current specs are Unstrung/ strung:

Length standard 27”

Static: 310.6g/ 325.9g

Balance: 31.7cm(8pts HL)/ 32.7cm(5pts HL)

Swingweight: 294/ 322

My only problem is with the frame right now is the heft it takes to still swing it( it takes a lot to swing effectively with it) I would play much better if the swing weight was just a tad lower, so I could have more variety on my shots, and not have to work so hard to generate racket head speed. It’s only 5.6g heavier than my blade 98 18/20( which has a 319 sw due to minor trimming/not sure how much exactly) but I feel as tho I can’t play as freely with the gravity.I do like the thinner beam and stability the frame gives me. I’m just torn between the idea of trimming it down to at most 26.75inch in length( probably would trim less than 1/4”) but I wanted to get your guys perspective in grade offs I would get if I did this. It’s user friendlyness, playability and stability is far better on my gravity but that’s if I can get my body perfectly set for the ball and I hit the same stoke on both. I only want a more maneuverable racket and less sw while still having enough plow and control and power. I know I can’t have my cake and eat it too when it comes to the stability/maneuverability trade offs but I know that the 2023 auxetic gravity really plays nice and I can easily absorb a lot of pace off big hitters, but it’s hard to turn my defense to offense on long rallies because how demanding the frame is. Very frustrating playing with these probs for my new college season. Or maybe should I just cut off all the excess bumper guard except the part that touches the string. I’m just not understanding why the frame feels so heavy when there really isn’t that much of sw diff in the frames. Maybe it’s the valence but overall the weight is too much still.

Your guys feedback would be greatly appreciated

I have a closet full of racquets that have been trimmed down 1/4”.

Forehands and volleys are easier to hit. Serves lose a little pop. I always add weight strategically to recover the weight back up to where I like it, but with a denser more solid feel after shortening.

Can always keep the trimmed off piece to use as a spacer to restore the length later.

Do you like to hit with the racquet when gripping it up the handle?

With the Gravity Pro I noticed that the SW was only bothering me on FH so I changed my FH a little up the handle. My volley grip was already chocked up. Serve and 2HBH grips remained the same.

Love the GPro :)

Yes I choke up for the volleys due to the heft and my backhand remains the same, but I only choke up on my forgands a little bit only if my timing is really off. I often like to swing out too much and then I miss very badly out of the court. I am using tourna big hitter silver 17g at 49ish lbs

Your SW is already low for a Gravity, IME anything less than 327-328 SW field was not stable enough against someone who hits big, and you lose put away power because at the end of the day it's still 20mm beam

Cutting down and reducing the SW by 10-15pts would probably not do well at maybe high 4.0 and above against real heavy hitters - unless you plan on adding all that SW back into the head

Ths spec you have as stock is probably what i think the bare minimum a GPRO should be, that would of been a good spec for 2019/2021 version, hard to come by, but much easier to find in Auxetic, thougu i didnt like Auxetic at all

Agree with @travlerajm, you can always try it and save the cutoff part. I would get some advice on what to use to cut it off, so you can be precise.

What would recommend I do, to help playability then if cutting isn't the move? I am waiting for my demo order of the gravity 2023 mp which i was going to weigh up in the handle and at 3/9

GTour might be a more feasible option because you can go lower SW but it has 2mm extra thickness to make up for it, not quite as good in my opinion as the Pro, but if it's not suited to your play style or strength levels, i don't think it will be if you continue to cut down the specs

Most of the complaints for a Gpro heftiness was because they are coming in like 335-340 sw and to get a headlight balance you need to get it up to 345g static at least

Instead of taking away SW, try taking away static weight, and see if you can play with more head heavy balance, but compensated with a physically lighter racquet

My Gpro is 323-324g strung but 338-340 sw, works well for me

Need a lighter replacement grip - i.e wilson feather thin grip to reduce about 7g from handle, that would be a good start to try

What did you use to play before?

The specs you listed seem very manageable, a lot of “lighter” frames will have SW at 325.
