Head Gravity

Why? Is it the added weight in the ha doe or the feel of the ball?
For me, the added weight in the handle helps with the Gravity Tour but the main thing for me in the increase in feel. It gives me two distinct advantages: 1. I can feel the bevels more which helps on the grip change for my OHBH, and 2. I get the sense of knowing exactly where on the string bed I hit the ball.

I thought I would give you an update on the leather grip front. It feels to me that the Head TK82s G3 runs smaller than the Wilson G3 that I was used to on my previous stick, so when I added the Kimony leather grip, the grip size became too small. Since then I've just received (and installed) a couple of Oehm's leather grips and now the grip size feels more comparable to what I am used to. I am going to give them a spin on tomorrow to see how it plays and I will report back.
I also find the TK82S smaller than the Wilson equivalents (which I find smaller than Babolat’s). I‘m comfortable with Head’s L4 and Babolat’s L3 (and none of Wilson’s).
As someone who hits quite a few balls outside the sweetspot, I found that a leather grip made the Gravity Pro rather harsh. I also much preferred the racquet with a head-heavier balance and ended up adding 3g at 12. I think this is actually the first frame I customized to be more head-heavy than head-light.

I’ve heard this about leather grips…harsher feel at times…did you also use an overgrip?

I did not measure the pallet (Head) / foam handle (Wilson) directly as I did not want to undo the OG & leather grip. However, I measured the handle circumference at the midpoint on both my Wilson Ultra Pro (with a Kimony Techni leather grip and Wilson Pro OG installed: 0.8 & 0.6 mm thickness respectively - 1.4 mm total) and my Head Gravity Tour (with a Oehms Pro Leather Grip and Wilson Pro OG installed: 1.5 mm & 0.6 mm thickness respectively - 2.1 mm total) for direct comparison. The handle circumference of the Wilson measured 11.2 cm (4.41 inches) whereas the Head was 11.3 cm (4.45 inches) - although bear in mind that the Head has not been played with since I installed the leather grip & OG so it will likely decrease slightly after its first outing.

Assuming that the Head and Wilson Grip 3 are the same size, you would expect to find that the Head grip would run larger than 1 mm in comparison to the Wilson due to the thicker base grip. Therefore it seems the Head G3 is smaller than Wilson G3 as I originally thought, although YMMV.

Leather grips, if used without an OG, are harsh on the hands as it offers minimal/no comfort/shock absorption which in some, can result in blisters. However, I always use an OG with my leather grip which provides just enough comfort to overcome this without ruining the "feel".

I recently purchased the Head Gravity Tour racket on TW after I did some intense testing on a Test racket and it felt great to play with.

Once received, I immediately gave it to my stringer to prepare. After some first shots I recognized there must be something wrong. The racket is exetremely heavy (heavier than pro version) and the grip size is definitely thicker as the selceted
„3“ size.

I‘ve read some Blog posts from different clients who experienced the same and there must be a serious QC issue.

I actually wanted to order a second racket but due TO this issue this is on hold.

May I ask for your view on this?
Can I return the racket to check and TW can provide me with two regular ones which have been checked on their specs: (Weight,Swingweight, etc)

First, find someone to measure the swing weight so that you know exactly what’s causing the problem. Then Return it and then pay for the matching service where TW will give you specs of 6 different Tours…

the issue with the gravit qc is usually around swing weight. If your racquet is over 325 it starts to edge into the Pro weight.

And there is absolutely no point play Tour at more than 325 SW, better get Pro then. My friend just randomly bought old paintjob Gravity Tour and got good specs racquet.

Not sure you can return a racket once it's strung, but policy will vary from store to store I guess.

You're not wrong about Head QC being rather poor recently and it's why I'm a lot more reluctant to buy pairs of rackets without getting them first matched.

My GTour after just a leather grip/overgrip/dampner is 344g, 5pts HL and 348SW (measured using TWU method), whereas my pair of GPro's after leather grip etc. is 342g, 7pts HL and ~330SW (estimate from unstrung SW).

thanks for your prompt feedback and advice. I‘ll try to do but it‘s insane as I just wanted to switch rackets and it‘s causing only problems now. Very frustrating and time consuming

Better use matching service next time. 20$/eur and you can choose whatever specs you like.

My gravity tours are matched at 323 SW with 16gauge strings…321 with 18gauge strings…just about the right weight for me…

Hi all,

I know this thread has been quiet for a while, but I just bought a Head Gravity Pro and thought I'd take a chance that someone might be able to help me out on a query.

Two things:

1. While taking the plastic off of the handle of my new racket, I noticed a small round sticker with 'Q/C F' on it. Anyone ever come across this and know what this means? Started to worry it stood for 'Quality/Control Fail'.

2. I've never had a 18x20 set up (always played 16x19), am used to a much thicker beam and not used to the Head Gravity hoop shape. That said, I've been a bit surprised that I feel a bit of vibration when I bounce the ball hard just north of the sweet spot. Is this to be expected with me making such a transition from what I'm used to or do you think it might be related to my point 1...and that I've bought a dodgy racket?

Any helpful thoughts would be very much appreciated, thanks.

FYI, weight strung (with Lynx Tour 17 at 50/48lbs) is 334g. Two over grips and dampener takes it to 348g. Feels comfortable and no arm pain (why I'm changing racket), but still, a bit of a tinny, pingy vibration feel at the top of the racket.
I have the same issue with the gravity tour I just got, except I get this tuning fork ping wherever I hit the ball, not just on the top :<

Lately i experimented a bit with my GPro grip. I figured out that if i wrap my replacement grip tighter and make grip a bit smaller but with bigger buttcap flare, i hit better serves and better topspin forehand. And if i wrap replacement grip making grip a little bit bigger but with less pronounced buttcap flare, i hit much better slice. I have weak topspin backhand and its hardest shot to master for me. But i have very good backhand slice and my game rely on it. I cant understand why these small changes affect my strokes that much. Any ideas?

I play with a dampener with every head racket I use. But have experienced more aggressive violent pinging through the frame…restringing may help…will update

Is the Head Velocity MLT at 23kg a good string for the gravity mp?

I'm intermediate player who likes to play at baseline most of the time.

Cheers!

I use the multifilament string in GT at 50/48 lbs. so far, I used multifeel and sensation. Recently I bought couple set of the rip controls to try out.
Anyhow, I am playing GT only with the multifilament strings.

I play my GT with mostly Volkl Cyclone Tour, a very soft/high spin poly. It works well and is easy on the arm. However, my first string with it was Technifibre Multifeel Black, a pretty controlled string for a multi.

Plays good but for very short time. Coating wears off and then it plays bad. Im using Technifibre Triax which is very similar to Velocity MLT and its playability is about 4x longer than Velocity. Triax cost twice compared to Velocity MLT, but for me its worth it.

If it helps to anyone. I have Gravity Tour 2019 with 61 RA unstrung and also bought Gravity Pro 2021 with 67 RA unstrung. I thought its only 6 RA and wouldnt make much difference. But after few months my arm cant stand it anymore. Pro actually plays very nice and its shame my arm refuse 67 RA :( I tried several times switch between Tour and Pro to see maybe im overplayed or something. On friday i played match after 2 weeks without tennis and my arm hurt after match. Today i played again but with Tour, no issues at all. Its sad they increased stiffness for 2021 Gravity's.

Is the Gravity Pro really that stiff? TW has the RA of the tour as 61 and the Pro as 62. The pro feels extremely soft to me.

Maybe it’s the extra weight or different strings hurting your arm? I’d hardly describe the GP as stiff. The beam and flex feel very much like a classic racquet to me.

I agree with EggSalad about the extra weight of GP is hurting your arm.
I also tried couple of sessions with GP and the GP wight is not for every recreational player in my humble opinion.

Absolutely no. I had Gravity Pro 2019 edition with more weight and was no issues with arm, felt much softer.

Maybe you lost on the QC lottery?
My racquet is 296 SW unstrung and 31cm balance which is perfect for me. But when i got matching service results, 4 racquets were 67 RA and one 66 RA. At time i thought that its gonna be soft racquet still. I was wrong.

Interesting. I find an on spec, 2021 Gravity pro strung with a poly/syn gut hyrbid to be as soft as a baby’s bottom. Heavy, but very soft.

I saw post on forum with Gravity Tour 2021 matching service racquets specs and all racquets were 65-67 RA.
You need to remember that these are unstrung specs so the stiffness will drop by roughly 4 points once strung so 61 - 63 seems reasonable to me. The 61 RA unstrung of your original Tour is likely to be the QC issue, not the latest version - you just lucked out getting a sub 60 RA racket once strung.

Strung racquet drop stiffness ~2 points. Yes my Tour a bit under spec with 59 RA, but Pro way overspec with 65 RA. For playability there is no problem, still good feel, but for comfort its huge difference between my Tour and Pro.

65 -66 makes sense in that they would drop 3’points when strung. That’s why I thought 67 was just a QC issue…65=62; 66=63…Pro has always been a point or two higher than Tour and MP

your pro is probably a touch too light in the SW...adding 30 that would come to 326...should be 330. I think that difference in weight affects the power/plow-through more than flex.

that said, is your arm pain acute? is it focused on the inner or outer elbow? Or is it general ache?

I have found that when my arm has ached generally, not in any specific place, it's b/c the racquet has been too heavy (or sometimes too light), where as an acute pain in the elbow (i've had golfer's elbow) it's largely been b/c of a stiffness in the racquet.

Its maybe outer elbow, not sure at the moment i dont have pain. It isnt that bad now, but im watching it because i dont want to go back to the state where im gonna struggle for very long time like it was few years ago. But when my wrist feeling discomfort, it usually because of the stiffness of the racquet/strings.

Generally, the Gravity line is among he softest lines available today. I would stay away from 315g racquets, honestly. Few good rec players (4-4.5) can play well with racquets that weigh in over 335+ grams. Maybe you can, but I have found great success with 305/310g racquets with low flex.

I dont feel weight difference between my Tour and Pro, both swings about the same. And i play equal well with both racquets. Its just with Pro i can paint lines better, make better drop shots, lobs and it gives me more joy even match outcome is the same with both racquets.

yeah, I think that bc the weight is basically the same between the two, you are enjoying the thinner beam which makes the racquet more maneuverable. But, if the Pro were more on spec, it would be heavier and possibly more difficult to do those things depending on one's strength. you may have just gotten a stiffer layup...but that's not by design.

can't remember what your strings are but you can always go with a soft poly...
