hi, i love the new microgel mid but i hate the grip with a passion! haha. i am about to order 3 from head but i dont know what to do with the grip shape to make it more like a wilson. i am a 4 1/2 grip size. should i just order a 4 3/8 and put a leather grip on it to improve the shape? overall i just need a way to get rid of that 2x4 shaped grip! please help as i dont know what to do. thanks!

Adding a leather grip will do nothing but exacerbate the shape of the handle, as leather tends to bring out the bevels. The only real way to "fix" the issue is to have the pallet replaced, either with one of the new Speed series pallets, or by **** with one of their custom pallets.

If you want to try something on the cheap, you could try buying a size smaller than you're used to, adding a heat sleeve and an over grip, which has the effect of reducing the prominence of the bevels; it will still feel rectangular though.

:)thanks. i love leather grips though. would it be possible to wrap athletic tape or something like that on the pallet to make it more round?

If you hate it with a passion and are willing to do serious modifications then I saw a thread on here a while back that allowed you to totally change the grip shape.

If you want an easy, do it yourself fix, I would recommend that you consider the following:

Start with a grip one size too small.
Apply several layers of tape lengthwise along the two sides of the grip which you want to fatten. I recommend packing tape. It's firm and holds well. The strips of tape should be cut ever so slightly narrower than the bevels of the grip.
Cover it with the leather of your choice and you should be good to go.
Remember that the more time you spend focusing on detail and getting it right, the better the results will be.

The best thing you can do is have the palet replaced. No need for a custom mold or anything like that. **** has palets that are the shape of wilson and prince grips. It is very easy for them to do and is not that expensive. Any of the other solutions will effect weight and balance of the racket, changing the palets will not. I believe the only limitation is the size. Rounder shaped palets only go up to 1/2 not 5/8 or at least that's what it was the last time I asked.
