Head LM Prestige VS Wilson Prostaff Classic 6.1, Hyper Prostaff 6.1 & nCode 6.1 95

Head LM Prestige Mid-Plus VS Wilson Prostaff 6.1 Series

Hi everybody,

My question is to those previous Wilson Prostaff 6.1 series racquet users(such as, Prostaff Classic 6.1, Hyper Prostaff 6.1 and nCode 6.1 95).

All of you that changed from the above mentioned racquet to the Head LM Prestige Mid Plus. Would much appreciate all of your comment.

Granville of TW reviewed the Wilson nCode 6.1 95 and yet he decided to stick to Head LM Prestige Mid Plus. How many of you have the simlar experience as him?

Thank you.

Play with the NCode 6.1 95 and demoed the LM Prestige MP almost switched but did not. At first thought I had better control with the LM Prestige, but after several hrs of play mostly doubles serve better with Ncode volleys = and ground stokes better with n code serve return better.

I used to play with the HyperProstaff 6.1 and recently switched to the LM Prestige MP. The reason being is that I've been playing a bit more doubles and I was looking for something a little bit more maneuverable... which the LM definitely provides. I also tried the ncode 6.1 and it was great on volleys as well but I felt that I just lost too much with the serve and the groundies with the ncode... almost too head light. On the other hand, I felt that the LM got pushed around a bit too much from the baseline when playing against heavy hitters. I could begin to feel my arm taking some of the abuse. So I've added 6 grams to my LM at 3 and 9 o'clock and it feels great. I still have great touch and maneuverability at net. The added weight helps to plow through the ball a bit more on groundies and serves. I come to the conclusion that no racquet is ideal for both groundies and volleys. I think the LM with the little added weight is the best I'm going to get for my game. BTW, I'm a 4.5 allcourter with a very fast swing speed and two handed backhand. But this is just what I've found. You may try it and come to a completely different conclusion. For instance, I've heard from some people that they think the LM has too much flex. That may be true for them but I like it. My 2 cents.

Hi 10sne1, Thanks for your comment.
Few questions for you, hope you don't mind :)

i) Btw You added weight on the racquet? which is it (1) or (2)?
(1)Total 12 grams, 6 grams on each side, 3 and 9 o'clock.
(2)Or total 6 grams on 3 and 9 o'clock.

ii) What is the tension on your LM Prestige?

iii) Does the racquet feel more forgiving than the ncode 6.1?

iv) How is the spin potential on the LM Prestige MP? is it better than the Ncode6.1?

Thanks.

Hi TennisMD, Thanks for your input.

Does the Head LM Prestige Mid-Plus as forgiving and bigger sweet spot as the Ncode 6.1?

How is the spin potential on the LM Prestige? is it better than the Ncode6.1?

Cheers!!

Hey Alex,

I added 3 grams on 3 and 9 o'clock. I know it's not much but it did make a difference for me. Remember that I was coming from the Hyper 6.1 that was 12.4 ounces. The LM is only 11.9. I could tell the difference when hitting against heavy hitters. The LM just didn't plow thru the ball enough. Adding the weight has helped.

I used to string my Hyper 6.1 at 58 so I tried that with the LM. I've only had the LM for a couple of months so I'm still experimenting. I plan on dropping the tension to 57 or 56 with the next string job I do. At 58 it actually felt a bit tighter, I'm sure that's due to the dense string pattern. We'll see how it goes.

Is the racquet more forgiving? By "forgiving" I assume you mean on off center shots. I do find that it's fairly stable... even more so with the added weight. In general, the more weight you have... the more stable it will be IMO. If you mean flexible when you say "forgiving" then yes the LM is more flexible.

In regards to spin potential, the ncode is definitely more spin friendly. This is due to the open string pattern that it has. For me, it was almost too much. I hit with a lot of topspin as it is and I had a hard time getting the ball deep with the ncode. As far as the LM, I first had it strung with VS 17g gut and it felt great. That popped after 6.5 hours so I have VS 16g gut in it right now. It is lastly about twice as long but I've noticed a drop off in topspin. As a result, I plan on going back to a 17g string. I can't afford to break gut every 6.5 hours of play so I'll be trying some multi's out.

As I said before, both are good racquets. For me, the ncode just had too much topspin and not enough power with the serve. The LM is not as powerful on the serve or groundies as my old Hyper 6.1 but it's definitely more manueverable. Since I'm playing more dubs and trying to get to net more often when I play singles I needed something a bit more manueverable at net.... more of an allcourt racquet. Anyway, that is was why I decided on the LM. Hope all this helps.

I do think that the best way for you to decide is to demo both racquets and play with both of them for a while. After playing with them for a while you'll be able to tell the subtle differences between the two and be able to make a decision. Also, think about your current racquet and find out what you like and don't like about it. Once you do that, it'll be easier to find a new racquet that has what you're looking for.

Hi 10sne1,

Thanks so much for your reply. It's very helful :-)

BTW have you tried the nCode 6.1 95 with tighter (18x20) string pattern? If yes, how does it compare to the Head LM Prestige Mid+?

Cheers..

Dear all,

Anyone tried tried the nCode 6.1 95 with tighter (18x20) string pattern? If yes, how does it compare to the Head LM Prestige Mid+?

D'oh! That's very strange with this frame.

Power and spin-wise the nSixOne 95 is in another planet, with one of deepest plow through factor.

I have a HPS 6.1 and tried the nCode 6-1 a couple of times (3 of my friends have it). Not a bad racket but felt too muted and dead with a bit more power than my liking.
