Head Lynx Tour 18g - what a pain to find!

I know this has been discussed in other threads and in the main Lynx Tour official thread - I just wanted to create one specifically for the 18g string (1.20mm). I live in Canada and man it is a pain in the butt to find this string. I am almost turned off from it lol. I did buy from Amazon Germany before but that won't be sustainable I think for me. Also, today I wanted to buy 18g in Champagne off of Amazon Germany and I was indicated that that item could not be dispatched to my location (I know there is the option of mailboxde.com but I don't want to go that route). I even contacted the Head Canada rep and they weren't too useful - she told me that there is no demand in Canada for the 18g. Anyways. does anyone else have any other leads on how to get this string esp 18g champagne?

I live in Germany and tried to get a reel Lynx Tour 1.20mm from my local tennis shop. The owner told me that he couldn't order 1.20mm, so I ordered from Amazon. The owner had since called Head, and was told that they had simply forgotten to make 1.20mm available to order "because Head has so many different strings".

Wow this is the first time I've seen it in the U.S. I've never tried grey color Lynx Tour as I've always used champagne 17. Wonder how much of a difference the color makes in the LT.
I have tried grey but not champagne 1.20. I did find the grey stiff but manageable.

I emailed the Head Canada rep and she said there was no demand for 1.20mm Lynx Tour in Canada which is why it is not available here. I dont think that is true.

I've tried them both in 1.25. Champagne is a little more lively. Otherwise quite similar. Grey 1.20mm is my current string of choice (or when my elbow isn't sore anymore, thanks Confidential :cautious:).

I find the champagne more muted/dead and slightly more harsh on my arm than grey but not by much. They both play similar and are great strings. Grey has been very comfortable, i usually string at 52 either full bed or cross with hawk touch or m8. It could be due to my swing when I don't have as much feel making me feel the champagne in my arm more. I'm a feel type of player so I don't like muted/dead strings. I found black harsh and dead but that was 1.25.

I thought that champagne had slightly more pop than grey, I was able to make miracle shots when way out of position. This is what I meant by lively. Grey is more crisp, a little less forgiving, but not stiff. I didn't think either one was stiffer than the other.

What comes first, the chicken or the egg?
Maybe they projected that 1.20mm wouldn't have a big market, so they didn't manufacture a ton of it. Based on how sparsely it's available even in Europe, that would be my guess. Maybe 18g strings are starting to become more popular since Solinco manufactures everything down to 1.05mm size.

Funny that I found Lynx Tour stiffer and heavier than Confidential in the same gauge

I guess. It still doesnt make sense to me - Head Lynx is more available in 1.20mm. I wonder if it for some reason costs more to make Lynx Tour 1.20?

I thinks it’s dumb they call it 18g. It’s 17g, 1.2. Most everyone else call 1.25 16L, 1.2 is 17g and 1.15 is 18g. I think all strings should come in 1.3, 1.25, 1.2 and then only if there’s a market for 1.15 like in really stiff strings etc

I noticed that Confidential opens up if you hit with a ton of pace. Outside of doubles play, I just don't generate that kind of pace and Confidential feels boardy and stiff.

I like Champagne 125's feel. it almost plays like a round poly with good spin and pop, a good balance between crisp and mute. but it's a little too heavy for some of my racquets. So I tried Orange and Grey in 120, I didn't like either of them. They played like different strings to me compared to Champagne 125.
Orange and Grey 120 feel kinda like Tour Bite Soft, they have this grippy, 'dry', wirey feel I don't like.
I haven't tried Champagne 120, that's the one I want to try.

I have a reel of orange 120, cut 3 sets so far, If anyone is interested DM me.

You and I are in the same boat hihi

I think I am going to explore other strings at this point. Solinco Outlast being one of them.

Grey and champagne are pretty similar. If you like one, you are going to like the other, and vice versa. Grey 1.20mm plays exactly like a thinner, more spinny grabby version of the grey 1.25mm - exactly what you'd expect from a thinner gauge string.

Nice! But 70 Euros to ship to Canada lol.
US shipping is 40 euros. Keep in mind a 220m reel of ALU power is $300 so there are much pricier strings with less performance. If you love the Lynx Tour then buy 2-3 reels to make the shipping cost easier to stomach.

Yes. Wish I was in the US.

Are you in the States? Have you bought anything from Tennis Point Europe? Just wondering who they ship with and how much would the customs be.

I have not purchased anything from them. I prefer the gray Lynx Tour so I purchased a reel of it and a reel of black from Amazon Germany.

I ended up getting 1.20 grey from Amazon Germany. Is the Lynx Tour 1.20mm more closer to a 1.25mm? (Thats what I read on some posts on here).

To the naked eye it is noticeably thicker than a 1.20 round string. I guess with a 4 or 6 sided string you could measure the diameter in various ways.

1. Flat side to flat side, which would be thinner.
2. Corner to corner, which would be thicker.
3. Take an average of the above.

Does anybody know if there is an industry standard here?

You would need to have a very precise laser micrometer to get accurate measurements on something so small. A typical digital caliper is not useful.

I measure with calipers a while back and it’s 1.2
