Head Lynx Tour - Official Thread

@K1Y - Hawk Rough is the rough version of regular Hawk, not Hawk Touch. Alas, it's been discontinued, in the retail channel at least. Maybe they're reintroduce it at some point.

As for Lynx Tour, I would say it's a good to great string, especially in Champagne and Gray, which are firm and crisp, and help add feel back into muted/muffled frames (which, sadly, is a majority of them these days).
Sorry Trip, I dont disagree with you often but this time I have to say you are wrong. Dennis Fabian admitted in a podcast with Tennisnerd that Hawk Rough has always been the rough version of hawk touch. That is why they will re introduce it as hawk touch rough, because it has always been touch rough.

edit: podcast was with TN

Oh, wow. Well, color me humbled. Was always under the impression that Hawk Rough was, well, exactly that. I'll certainly correct my post!

Encouraging to note, though, that they plan on reintroducing it, and naming it properly as Hawk Touch Rough.

This is pretty much my favorite main string - 1.25. I string at 40#s typically and try different crosses with it. Keep coming back to it. I prefer the Champagne as well.

What's the difference between champagne and silver, both 1.25?

I did test both today (on a matched pair of Extreme Pros), so you dont have to.
What a surprise, both are crisp/stiff strings, but both didnt feel harsh on my arm or wrist. While champagne had a tiny bit more power, grey had more spin and control. The grey version keeps its edges for a longer time. That said both are realy not far appart. In the EPs I would/will prefer the silver Lynx Tour.

Thanks for the comparison!! I’ve heard a lot of praise for this string and want to try it one day. Since I like crisp, I’ll opt for the silver one. I assume they both weigh the same (everyone says LT is a heavy string for its diameter and I look for a heavier 1.25 or normal 1.30)

Btw. I remember you settled on some 1.23 string some time ago on your “find the perfect string” journey. Have you found any great strings in between? Why did you stop with that one/what are you looking for now?

The TruPro Black Knight was perfect for the tight string pattern in the sweet spot of the Ezone 98, but I really like the new Head EPs. 1.23 breaks within 3-4 hours. I would recommend the Black Knight anytime, but I need more durability. So Black Knight > Lynx Tour, but no 1.25 with BK.

Since I am from Austria Head is really common here. I played every color of the Lynx Tour. Orange is very lively and black too stiff. It was either champagne or silver. 1.30 is not needed because I dont have the fast swing of an 18 year old and back in the 98 aero it hurt my arm (might be the racket).
I wanted to test Head Hawk and Razor Soft, but why not settle, when you find a string that fits.
The weight doesnt have a lot of impact, since i have 6g of lead around the upper frame anyways.

I see. I’ve tried Hawk once. It was solid, ok, muted, below average spin but held its tension well. There was nothing the string did extremely well, everything was just good.
I hope to like Lynx Tour although I hated the regular Lynx. Luckily they seem to be two completely different strings.
Btw. I was sure, judging by your name, you were from the Czech Republic. I’m from Slovakia.

Yeah I was epecting that Head Hawk has no strengths but it is consistent, while edged strings are different over their lifespan.
Lynx is a nice string in the first hour. Then it loses tension rapidly.
And you were right. I was born near Prague.

Generally, I would say the brighter the color, the more powerful Lynx Tour gets
The bright orange one is a bit more powerful than champagne as well - but mostly you don't want this string in some rackets for aesthetic reasons

Maybe you didn't really read my post from yesterday.
It depends on you and your playing ability how hard or soft the frame should be strung.
There is no ideal reference tension for everyone - you have to be able to play with the racket and feel comfortable.
If you don't know that, you have to feel your way around.
There are so many good and bad machines on the market, as well as stringers.
It all depends on who you entrust your frame to.
Which reference tension and which machine system have you been happy with so far?
