Head Prestige 2021

Had a good demo with the new Auxetic Prestige’s (98 Pro and 99 MP, formerly MP and Tour) tonight…several hours. My current stick is the PMPG360+ but I know it’s too demanding for me…still it has been good to use since I returned to tennis in 2020 since it forced me to focus on technique espiecially on my OHBH.

First thing I’ll say is that I think the Auxetic is better than the G360+. I don’t find the difference subtle at all. Auxetic 98 is much more solid at impact vs G360+ 98, and has easier depth. I never felt the G360+ felt “hollow” but now I do.

As for the new Pro vs new MP, direct comparison is hard because the Pro had Alu Power (a good string and one I’ve used in the past, though now I hybrid string with Alu only in the crosses) while the MP had a cheap synthetic.

But even with the lousy strings (not sure of tensions), the MP plays well. It’s stiffer and less pleasing at contact vs the Pro and my G360+ PMP, but the ball goes faster! With less effort! It feels wayyyyyy better than the Radical MP I tried a few weeks ago. As for spin, hard to say on groundstrokes; I had to take some pace/RHS off my OHBH to keep it in so that reduced spin a bit (now I kind of understand how opponents sometimes get so much pace out of lousy technique lol). But on serve the MP definitely had more spin and pop and I think on forehands too - although the increased pace was more noticeable.

Pro and my G360+MP are both better than the new MP for volleys, but the MP is ok.

Also the new MP was nice on overheads, I think because of the slightly reduced weight (my G360+ is 340g static strung) making it easier to hammer the ball when off balance.

I also took a Gravity MP to my demo but I didn’t like that at all…too light and unstable, and didn’t feel nice at impact. Alrhough the 100 sq in head size didn’t bother me and didn’t feel awkward on my OHBH (it’s a technically solid shot for me). I wanted to demo the Gravity Tour but it wasn’t available. However now I’m wondering if the Gravjty Tour with its 300 CPI (vs 400 for new Prestige MP and 200 for new Prestige Pro: outgoing Prestige MP G360+) might be the sweet spot for me? Anybody compare the Gravity Tour to the PMP (old or new)?
Did you have the same setup with both the 360+pmp and aux pro when you compared them?

No, my 360+PMP has hybrid stringing (gut mains, Alu power crosses) vs all Alu power in the aux pro. Both strings were quite fresh. Not sure of tensions in aux pro but my 360+ is 52/50. Aux was probably 50 or 49. I demo’d from same shop that maintains my 360+. Also grip sizes of demos were too big for me but I used to hit with that grip size until just 7 months ago, so it wasn’t totally unfamiliar.

most people in that category likely went radical or extreme tour even. I’m pretty excited to try this one though. I did not get a chance to demo the previous iron man PJ model
Regarding aesthetics, I think one has to look really hard to notice. Flipping between demos, I had to look at the beam width to check which one I was grabbing.

Measured RA of demo new Auxetic Pro 98 is 57, vs 56 on my old G360+ 98. Consistent with what I noticed when hitting.

but I pulled the trigger and just bought a new Auxetic MP 99. Just one for now. At least this will be in my grip size and will have my desired strings plus leather base grip to allow better testing. Will hit it for a while before making long term decision, but if I don’t like it then will try Gravity Tour…or may end up with Auxetic Pro 98.

Do you find the feel/touch of both G360+ MP and Auxetic Pro to be quite the same or they are different? Which one do you prefer?
Have you played with earlier Prestige MP incarnations?

Auxetic feels more solid (but not stiff, still plush). Sweet spot feels a bit bigger. I prefer Auxetic for sure.

The only other racquet I’ve owned (ignoring whatever I used til age 12 when I quit the game) is the old i.Prestige Mid (labeled 93 but actually more like 90).

I have played for one hour with Auxetic Prestige Pro on Sunday. I was disappointed.
Even if this was could be the best Prestige MP/Pro since YouTek Innegra (but I remember despite the sound I quite liked the first red Graphene) – still feel is much worse than in TGT293.2.
It is more stable and powerful than the previous Graphene 360+ Prestige MP. I would say that it is in the middle between IG Prestige MP and current G360+ Radicals.
Good ball-pocketing with not that plush or comfortable feel.

Good to know. Might be a demo to ascertain things, rather than an outright purchase based on positive reviews.

Interesting, 57RA not plush and comfortable. How would you describe the feel??

I have the 360+ version and I find it extremely plush and comfortable. I have tested the Auxetic back in March and thought it had slightly firmer bed response but still very comfortable

I’m finding my Auxetic 99 to still be Prestige-y, but with more pop. However:
- I have a bit of arm soreness. Not sure if this is from the racquet or because last Friday I spent 3 hours demoing with grip sizes that are too large for me.
- the larger head size, thicker beam and/or higher swing weight feels clunky on serves.
- ball is sometimes sailing long on my OHBH, a shot I hit pretty cleanly (my impacts are less consistent on FH side), but then again I’m finding it easier to handle high backhands when I just want to hit back with decent depth and spin.
- slice is ok with this Auxetic 99 but I have to be more careful to avoid the ball sailing. Definitely prefer my 360+ 98 on the slice, but the Auxetic 99 is not bad (def. better than Radical MP).

gonna play with this model for a bit longer before making a decision. There’s a chance I’ll move to the Auxetic 98 Pro, which has more pop than my 360+ 98 MP (slightly higher RA according to machine). Certainly if arm pain persists then I will lock the Auxetic 99 away. I never had any outer elbow discomfort with my 360+ 98 MP even after hitting 500+ backhands in a session or hitting sometimes 6 days a week.

Graphene = arm pain. Graphene + more SW = more arm pain.

Hmm ok but I hit with the 360+ MP 98 - which is graphene - for 6 days/week (many 3 hour sessions) over more than 12 months with no issues, and I’ve not heard of anyone else having arm issues with that model. Could just be that the 99 inch 21.5 beam model (with higher SW too) is too stiff for my sensitive arm.

Cool. I didn’t feel the Graphene crisp crackle in the 360+ racquets. I felt it in the Boom and the 360 Speeds. But you had issues with the Auxetic PMP 99?

Hound is guessing and makes no sense with his wild guesses.

The 99 Auxetic MP is a totally different layup, stiffer feel and thicker beam than the Auxetic Pro/360+ MP. Totally different feel and vibrations and layup that will give different sensation and feel on the arm.

Same materials are used in both layups just different mapping and amounts.

Update: am leaning towards sticking to the 98 model. Had a coaching session playing lots of points with a club pro last night and I do appreciate the extra control from the 98 (G360+) model, plus it feels better and is easier on the arm. I’ve always enjoyed flexible frames (can’t get much flexier than my old i.Prestige Mid’s) and with my history of arm issues, I just don’t think it’s worth the risk to switch to the 99.

Will likely pick up at least one Auxetic 98 to confirm my initial experience that it has a bit more pop than my G360.

Also will mention that I have a new found appreciation for the aesthetics of the outgoing bright red G360+. It’s a cool looking frame, like a light saber…

Anyone had an issue with low quality cap grommets on these? I'm usually not hard on my racquets but these started coming off after a month of playing. I've looked for the new ones to buy but can't find them so not much i can do except to keep cutting off the dangling pieces...

I ordered 10 sets when I got mine, haven't used one yet.

On 20 racquets over 2 years, used 50+ hours a week.

I've owned 3 360+ PMPs on two different occasions, mostly strung with soft polys from MSV and WeissCannon in the 20-21 kg range. That setup is the plushest I've ever tried and really highlights the strong points of the frame. I didn't string that low with the IGPMP/PP, nor the PT 2.0, so I can't compare them directly, but they felt much firmer for sure. Ime, the PT 2.0 felt very similar to the IGPMP.

Looking forward to trying the auxetic version, but compared to the 360+ version, I'm certainly not putting more plushness on the top of my wishlist.

almost everything that has been written here so far, impressions about this new Prestige Pro makes me want to try it, and I ordered a demo already :) and since you get to pick two racquets, I ordered a PT 2.0 demo with it, to feel and experience what I should, well, feel. but damn I'd like to try that in 16x19..

unfortunately, I actually think both will be too slow for me, or more precisely, I might be too slow for those frames. they'll be great on fast incoming balls, fast flat hitting, luckily I'm on hardcourt now, so that'll help, but I suspect that I won't have the rhs necessary for slightly lower speeds, and speeding up slow balls. that was my impression with the red PMP, that I couldn't get the ball going enough on most points play shots. slightly more pop, slightly more open string pattern, slightly stiffer hoop and more stable, slightly more sw should help. good looks will help the most :sneaky:

My coach I take some lessons with has me shortening my FH backswing (already fairly ATP) into more Fed style (which happens to be what my coach did long before Fed…not as well of course) so I’m going to give the new Auxetic MP 99 (old “Tour”) another go.
As for the 98’s between G360+ and Auxetic, I prefer the feel and pop of the Auxetic but it’s a bit heftier which can be tricky. Red G360+ is easier to maneuver.

I still prefer the 98 to the 99. And while I enjoy the Auxetic 98’s extra pop (and SW for the OHBH), I am finding it kind of sluggish for the FH due to the extra weight (and mine are just under spec). I seem to get better impact and overall control of the racquet head with the slightly lighter and more head-light red Graphene 360+.

Anyone else finding the Auxetic kind of hard to get moving vs the red predecessor?

Can some one educated me with the benefits of 95 head size with reference to power and control- and how it impacts your serve?
It all depends , if you have the genetics meaning racquet head spead then with the 95 you ll get more top spin and lower launch angle. Also "safer" second serve

95 sq in only has the benefit of control with a smaller sweet spot, maybe better maneuverability with less weight in the hoop if the balance is specced more to be HL. You’ll generally always get more power out of a 98 or 100 over a 95 sq in

Yeah I don't agree. Launch angle is more a factor of string pattern and tension.
I have a Wilson PS90 16x19. It's quite an open pattern. Launch angle is high.
Sorry, but I don't understand..
Can you explain the "Launch angle" graphically with a sketch?

Not really. It's just roughly how high is the trajectory of any given ball coming off your strings?
When I hit the PS90 16X19, the trajectory of the ball is always much higher over the net than when I hit with my Yonex HD 18x20.

I have recently purchased the new Head Auxetic Prestige Pro, and it came pre-strung with Head Lynx probably in the low 50s. I have also used the Graphene 360+ PMP for the last two years and my main racquet. Until 6 weeks ago I always strung the Red PMP with Head Lynx at 44-46 pounds due to elbow issues. When I first purchased the Red PMP I used it in stock form for 3 months and found it comfortable but a little underpowered. After reading a thread on TT about it I added 1 gm of lead at each of 3, 9 and 12 and this transformed the racquet, it was smoother, more plush, more stable and more powerful. However, when the Lynx was about 12 hours old the launch angle seemed to suffer. Recently, I switched to Head Lynx Tour and this increased the power and launch angle noticeably and made it a wonderfully predictable and addictive playing experience. I had put off trying Lynx Tour because it is significantly stiffer than Lynx. Now I think it is a perfect string for the Red PMP.

So for those interested if I were to compare new Auxetic PP and the Red PMP both in stock form and strung with Lynx I would say that the new one is better. As others have mentioned it is more lively, a little more powerful and supremely comfortable - in short it is a fantastic racquet. Head has done a fantastic job!

However, if I compare the Red PMP with the 3 gms of lead that probably bumps the swingweight up by 3-4 points, and brings it up to around the Auxetic PP (327), I would say they are equally comfortable and powerful and can seemlessly switch between them. I have not tried the Auxetic PP with Lynx Tour yet so I can make a final comparison but will do so soon.

Hello, Prestige people. Quick question. Is the new Prestige Tour (formerly Pro) arm-safe? I have a somewhat sensitive wrist, so looking at the hefty SW and stiffness rankings, I wonder if I can pull it off.

Which one you would recommend of 1HBH more, the new Pro or the Tour?

On a side note, I can buy YouTek IG MP for $100, would you recommend it?

I just picked up a Prestige Head Auxetic MP for a demo. Also pre-strung. The strings are round and black so I guess they are Head Lynx black. Can anyone confirm these are head Lynx strings? If it was strung in the middle of the recommended range that would make it 52.5lbs. Can anyone confirm that as well? The reason for my question is that, if my first impressions of the racquet are good, I'd like to have it strung with my usual string set-up to try before I commit to the purchase. The shop were not keen even though I offered to pay for 2 string jobs and a set of replacement strings. My argument could be more persuasive if I could tell them that the string and tension I provided to them would restore the racquet to it's original state.

I got Lynx Touch with my demos but I strung them with Sonic Pro.
