Head Radicals... Bumblebee, Zebra and '98

Just a question to those who use or have used these racquets in the past... Has anyone taken the bumper guard off in order to make it more headlight? The old head guard and grommet strips were the ones where the the strips lay inside the bumper, not where the bumper has the grommets attatched to it. In other words, you can have all the grommets in the frame without having to have the bumper guard on. These frames are all fairly heavy (not the '98 as much, IMO). Has anyone done this? Does it make any difference in headlightness and maneuverability? Can you still purchase new grommet sets like this? I took mine out to try and do this but now can't get them back in because they are old and bent from years of being strung. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have got one of those 98 TT Radical OS, from the flea bay, with only grommets but no bumperguard. I then put on 2 layer of head tape. The racket swings fine in that setup, to my taste. With that setup it feels similar to the old trisys 260 OS.

Is yours Oversize, or Midplus?

If Midplus, then today's Radical MP grommets/bumper could fit it fine. You don't have to worry.

If oversize, bad luck my friend. Today's Radical OS grommets/bumper will install on it but it is slightly thicker beam, so it hangs about 1mm extra thicker. Still can use it but is not a perfect fit.

I'm using Zebra and 98 midplus as my main sticks. They both have the same static weights and balance points but 98 swings just a bit lighter. I did take of the bumper off my Zebra but did not like it(too head light). I felt more vibrations (may be was just me?) with no bumper and I did not want to scratch my frame. I replaced an original grommets (Zebra) with MG Radical midplus and it worked out perfect. It took a few grams off my Zebra because the MG radical's bumper is thiner and lighter.

I think the MG Rad's grommets are like most of today's rackets. The bumper and the strip are 1 piece for the upper hoop, and 2 strips for the sides and 1for the throat. I may be wrong. Correct me if I am.

and I wish I read this before I took the grommets of my 260 OS...Surprised that the bumper just slid off...

Not trying to change the theme of this tread, but you guys might have the answer I've been looking for.

Do you know the stats on the Head Radical Oversize TwinTube (with the Zebra paint job)? I'm looking for a new stick and would like something similar to my current stick, but I can't find the stats anywhere - even Head doesn't have them.

Yes, that is correct.

best bet for new ones then might be the youtek radical grommets, as it looks like the strip and bumper are separate pieces, although i'd have white grommets.

the youtek radicals have 21.5mm beams so there may be even more extra grommet sticking out.

I also heard youtek radicals have a different mold? and that was the reason you cant CAP them

Sorry to hijack the thread but I would like to know if the grommets for the new Radicals fit the Trisys 630?

Use a leather grip plus overgrip for the Radical Tours. It'll increase the static weight but I can confirm this makes the stick more maneuverable. I have leather plus overgrips on all my Zebra MPs. Main stick!

Agreed. Just slapped one on my Trisys 260 OS and it feels a lot better. Gonna try it on the MP tonight
