Head RIP Control 18g tension in 18x20

LHM

Rookie
I have managed to bag myself a set of 18g 1.20 Head RIP control here in the UK. I am pretty new to Multi's after having to switch from Polys after arm issues. My racket is a 98sq Babolat Pure Strike 18x20 305g. I was stringing polys up at around 45-48lbs and was wondering what I should string the 18g RIP control up at in my Pure Strike? Does 56-58lbs sound about right? I hit last night with NXT 17g at 52lbs and while I enjoyed the feel it felt a tad springy, possibly strung too low to be honest.

I would go 5kg or so up with RIP control. Most multis lose a lot of tension really fast.

Also, since you mentioned arm problems as the reason for the switch:
in my experience, multis are not a good option, they lose their qualities really fast and they're not very durable. Have you tried gut instead, maybe in a hybrid with poly or something softer like Monogut ZX?

That's a pretty stiff frame with a dense pattern for someone with arm issues.

Head Rip control feels and plays more like a soft co-poly than a multi. Power is muted so you can go lower tension. Just string whatever you strung your poly at.

That said, I would seriously consider switching to a more flexible frame until your arm gets better. IMO soft co-poly at low tensions in soft frames is every bit as if not more comfortable than soft strings in a stiff frame. To maintain control with a comfortable string like Monogut ZX or Natural Gut in your frame, you'll have to seriously up the tension which in the end wil result in an overall stiff feeling racquet (as you've just witnessed with NXT).
