Head Speed Legend - Djokovic Signature

It’s a terrific looking racquet. But as someone who doesn’t want to play with a speed pro but yet loves Novak I’m not tempted to buy it. I’ve got court FF2s out the wazoo, I’ve got a bunch of his signature Lacoste polos, I’ve got his hat. I’m a total fan boy. But I’m not buying a speed pro because it has his name on it and looks equally as good as the blacked out last gen.

They could have made it any slightly customized (playability not cosmetic) way and I would have bought it. But instead they made it a racquet that’s been largely unchanged for the last many years and I already know I don’t want one.

Maybe you are not a big enough fan than? :-D

I would suggest people see it in person before passing judgement. It is Head and Shoulders nicer looking than the Blacked out Last gen. I just cant imagine too many people wanting a new regular speed after seeing the Speed Legend - Novak lover or not.

This ! It's like shopping for cars, you see 2 of the same exact cars in a salon, except one has a better paint finish, mags, etc you going to pick the better looking one! I have already seen these on courts.

thats the whole point. I don’t want another speed pro.

I’ve played the 18, the 360+ 2020, the aux 2022. I don’t need to try the 24 in any capacity. It’s a very old racquet with minimal updates. I’ve had 7 years to stew on this. A pretty paint job is not enough. It doesn’t feel like a genuine attempt to celebrate the world’s greatest player. It’s a cheap way to try and cash in.

Oddly enough, all of those (TK339 mold) variations you mentioned (including Auxetic 2.0) are different from each other and took MUCH more than you think to release the next version.
Just to illustrate, while in KB last month, I have tested (TK339 mold) the next technology that would be due with the Q1 2026 prestige line update and it feels totally amazing and different than 2024 Auxetic 2.0 Speed Pro. I do not know if the same mold (339) will continue, however, Head considers it one of the most versatile molds they produced

I’m sure the Austrian engineers take great pride in their new projects.
The spec just isn’t for me, there’s not much left to it. After 7 years I’m able to come to that conclusion. I don’t need to buy the new one.

If this racquet was anything different I’d buy it in a heartbeat just to support the cause.

I hope I can resist buying one and I havent bought a new racket for atleast 6 months.... But all these negative messages from @Curtennis is making me want one even more. Its even exactly the the same price as the regular "Sinner" model (which kinda looks sucky right now from a visual standpoint)

Maybe its the contrarian in me.

Things like this marketing email I got are exactly why I’m not buying this lie:

This racquet took 15 years to make? Wtf does that even mean?
The speed line was introduced in 2009. 15 years later, they introduced the Speed Legend. Very simple, accurate, marketing…

Can you please tell us where is the “lie” in the email above that you’re talking about?

I didn’t mean to offend you or anyone specifically, but this is clearly just silly marketing. If I told you it took me 15 years to build my house you wouldn’t think that I waited 14 years and then did it in the last year.

They haven’t been working on a Novak racquet for 15 years as this suggests.

At some point in our lives we realize that all marketing is silly marketing. I also think buying a racket based on reading some random peoples opinions on the internet is way more silly than this.

Not everyone understands simple marketing.
That is ok

Yes, it’s simple marketing, but it’s a bad one.

I bought the speed mp legend, the reason I bought it is because it’s black, not because of the ‘Djoko Legend’ marketing. I believe most people who buying it is because of the black paint job. If they’re really buying into the ‘Djoko Marketing’ you mentioned, then these customers will be disappointed. No matter how you explain it, it does feel like a lie, let’s be fair.

Meanwhile, Yonex released the aqua night Ezone. They just say we’re coming out the new black paint job for the Ezone, nothing changed. It’s the same idea, just new black paint job to sell more racquets. But, I do prefer Yonex’s honesty over Head’s ‘simple marketing’.

15 years to make a new paintjob on the racket that just been released in 2024 with this new Auxetic 2.0 technology? How?
Well, technically since the Speed line was reassigned to ND (2009) it took them 15 years to develop this very good racquet (A2.0 SMP - which is what Head's marketing is calling incredible), that was first released in the Oreo PJ in early 2024. Nowhere on the ad they say it was specifically the legend PJ :p, so legal probably gave their thumbs up for this campaign.

I believe you misunderstood the (very simple and accurate) message:
- we created this line in 2009 (and ND has been the main name behind it)
- since then, we have released numerous versions of it
- 15 years later, we are releasing the Legend version of it (and this is where our journey with ND ends)…

I’m just joking. Btw, @dr325i, 2024 Speed Pro code is TGK339.12 but the Speed Pro Legend code is TGK339.15. Does this mean different layup or it just runs number?

This is not even slightly simple. You have to do mental gymnastics to get to your points.

Maybe if i was on payroll I’d be doing the same?

It took 15 years to make this racquet implies that they’ve been actively trying designing, engineering, testing, etc this racquet for literally 15 years. No, back in 2009 they made a racquet that had nothing to do with Djokovic’s racquet and put his face on it and said he endorsed it. 15 years later they released a new paint job and put his logo on it. They waited 15 years to do it, but this project did not take 15 years.

Why shouldn’t head just say it took them 37 years to make this racquet? Novak is 37 years old. It’s literally the same logic. The first release of a speed branded racquet is an arbitrary starting point, no different than the year he was born.

Head is trying to convince potential customers that this racquet is 15 years of hard work. No. It’s not. It’s whatever time it took them to make the paint job.

It took me 40 years to take my dog on a walk. Damn dude your dog is old. Nah I just got him last week.

Again, you are misunderstanding many (very simple) things...dude...
No one reasonable understood that the process to make a racket takes 15 years... The message is clear about "it took 15 years to get here"...
Then, you are also confused about some payroll thing?

I feel like I'm the only one happy they made a blacked out speed lol. Maybe it helps that I'm not reading between all the marketing jargain. Just an excuse for another blacked out pj which many people usually appreciate.

Also glad they didn't jack up the price. Pure drive 30th pj can suck it.

I bought two.

I would like to thank @Curtennis for the tremendous encouragement and helping me make this monumental decision easy, quick and painless.

I had promised nyself not to buy any new rackets in 2024 but this is the perfect racket to break that promise on

I have one word for you all.
LegeND :-D
what a post hahaha best one in the thread, and the racquet is (y) got an mp coming as well, might rotate with my non retail 339

I'm there with you. Glossy black looks good, much better than the oreo PJ to me. My concern was Head tacking on some extra $ just for new paint so glad to see they didn't. I understand people's frustrations but, outside of this forum, most people don't care about having Djoker's exact specs.

you must lack reading comprehension. I think this is an incredibly cool head speed. It's not a racquet that I want.

I thought (a little) humor would be a good thing. Oh well... Have a good one!

Is it full gloss, or is there some matte paint?

All gloss. Even the exposed carbon is clear coated so gloss. From memory the HEAD logo inside thr hoop and the S logo on one of the legs of the Y below the throat is not gloss

The Novak Logo Logo Branding is very subtle and can easily be hidden if it bothers anyone. It doesnt seem to mention his full name anywhere. All Branding is very suttle, classic and clean.

it would be cool if the upcoming RF release is also full gloss and black. I wouldn't mind his face and or RF logo on that one though. Novak may be GOAT now but Roger made modern tennis. He during slayed the serve volley era and heralded the modern tennis style and was GOAT for a long long long long time.

Thanks, where would you recommend me to buy it at a fair price?

Is too early for discounts unfortunately and when a racket looks like this they are going to sell to a bigger crowd than just Novak fanbois. And they didnt mark up over the regular speed either. And thankfully didn't make it look like it was made for rainbows and unicorns.

MORE THAN PRICE I would say this is important - If you need a certain spec buy with the extra $ spec check to avoid the risk of spec variation heavy gorillas. if you are someone who plays at high spec just go for it and no need to waste that $20 or whatever.

When you navigate through the posters whining that Head didn't manufacture a money losing, trophy racquet for their wall, we end up here with the reality is that they did essentially the same thing as Babolat did but didn't take advantage of consumers by jacking up the price for a paint job. It's a nice new paint job and provides Speed users with cosmetic choice which is always a good thing.

Agreed, and I posted in another thread on this.

I think the gloss black plays a bit less flimsy than the rubbery paint. It’s more direct and less muted.

Frame has no holes. Call it a tweener, a this or that….

I think head really knocked it out with this version.

Finally someone feels a difference between the two paints.

I definitely feel the difference and why I was playing with the 2022 over the 2024 until this week. The all black is just a little more crisp and direct, which was something the rubber paint hides/mutes…. I don’t really know how else to describe. All all else equal, black hard glass feels better and I play better with it.

I gave away the few 2024’s I had as gifts to friends.

Just out of curiosity, how good/bad is qc on the ‘24/legends in the batches y'all have come across? I’m about to go buy a legend mp and was wondering. Thanks
