Head Speed MP 2002 vs Yonex EZONE 100 2022

Hi,

In my country, I don't have the possibility to test rackets from a store, so I have to buy based on internet reviews. I'm considering to buy the Head Speed MP 2022 or Yonex EZONE 100. What you guys think about the pros e cons of both rackets? Wich one would you pick?

Hi,

I'm using the Head Speed MP myself as my main racket of choice.

Recently, I tried both rackets.

I liked the Head Speed MP (2022) more over the EZONE (2022) because of;

  1. The feel in response I get from the new Head racket. (improved)
  2. More spin friendly for my game, backhand slice and slice serve.
  3. Seem to have more control over the EZONE. Could be because I transition from the Head Speed MP 360+ to MP 2022.

I use lead at 3 and 9 and string it with Solinco tour Bite. (25 KG)

I think the Ezone offers more control due to tighter stringbed on the center. Also better at flattening out shots. Has more pop as well.

Head Speed can be very spinny at times like the Pure Aero...

Head speed MP has 8 mains in the throat. It might have a tighter pattern in the middle.

I see people saying the feel of both rackets are amazing, you can feel the pop but at the sime time you feel comfortable. Tough decision. I'm afraid to have balls flying out the court, as I experienced when playing with a Pure Drive Team woofer, but at the same time I need depth to push the adversary. I'm starting to be an intermediate player, generating some power and being able to put the ball where I want. I currently play with an old 285g babolat racket but, as I said before, going to pick a 300g racket.

I haven't played with either but did a lot of research recently and have read great things on both. Personally wouldn't get overly hung up on the differences, just look at the specs and pick the one you have a preference for. I think you'll be happy with either one.

How does the new Speed MP compare to Radical MP?
New Speed MP swings much faster due to lower swing weight and has quite a bit more pop and easy access to spin while also being more comfy. Radical has a more raw/direct/firm feeling at contact, lower launch angle and more controlled string bed. Radical has good power and spin, but requires a bit more to unlock with good technique or swing speed. If you're looking for something closer to a Babolat PA then go Speed MP (more tweener). If you want more of a player style frame go with the Radical MP.

I just bought the Ezone 100 2022 and a Tecnifibre T-Fight 300 RS.. Seems the EZONE will work for me, but I was also very curious about tecnifibre frames, so I just ordered one to try it out. I'll keep only one of them, and a few months later, after getting used to my racket of choice, I'll also buy the speed mp 2022 to finally find out the winner.

I see. I always thought speed is similar to radical but with a larger head size. Didn't know speed has a higher launch angle.

That's what I thought until I tried it! But I'm talking about the MP. The Speed Pro will undoubtedly be tighter.

Edit: not that the Speed MP is super open. I find plenty of control. I would say it is medium open. Extreme is very open. Radical is very dense.

The density and launch angle of extreme tour and radical mp is my sweet spot. I have played with gravity tour also but my ball often finds the net. I'm assuming speed pro is similar to gravity tour, which would be too much for me. I'm awed to find that Djockvic plays with a 95 18x19 and have great topspin and height. I'm not super attracted to the paint job of speed anyway so if speed mp has a higher launch angle, and the other guy who commented speed mp is like a pure aero then I wouldn't try it.

If you like Extreme Tour and Rad MP launch angle then yeah I wouldn't try the Speed MP. I tried both the ET and Rad MP and found their launch angles too low for me. I play with the Speed MP.

Note, though, that it is not like Pure Aero/Extreme. It is medium.

Did you have the same strings ? Just noting you can definitely change launch angle with different strings. Try a heavily shaped versus round.

Yeah I use Lynx tour on all my rackets. Recently I’m trying lynx touch Lynx tour hybrid.

I'll be curious to see how you go as I've owned all 3 of these racquets in recent months. I will add that I've had mild tennis elbow and am fairly sensitive to racquet vibration. The EZone gave me quite a lot of discomfort on the serve outside the sweetspot with various string setups and I struggled with aero frame on my 1HBH. The RS300 is a great frame and I played very well with it, solid all around and surprising amount of pop from this frame. I started to develop elbow discomfort after a couple of months and unfortunately decided to move on, I probably should have tried adding some weight. I've now been playing with the Speed MP for one month with no issues, this is a solid frame. I previously played with the 360+ version and the Auxetic tech is an improvement for me, more plush and comfortable. It has a lower SW compared to the previous model but I've added lead to bring the SW to 330-335 range. Good luck with your testing.

I’ve been playing with the vcore 100 2021. Plays great but the new speed mp sure git a high rating.

I'm also interested in this. How does the ball feel/feedback of the two compare? Some say the Ezone is a bit dampened, the Speed is a slight improvement over the 360+ which I owned.

Good time to see someone like you who'd owned all 3 of those rackets.. (sorry about my english).. that been said. Well, I picked up the ezone 100 because, at the beginning, I liked the power, feel and the large sweetspot in comparison with T Fight 300 RS(Wich is also a great all around racket). The ezone make me hit with more confidence, I was playing well and that's the problem. I'm a flat hitter player, so I started to hit more agressively(because I was more confident) and most of my balls were flying out (and I have to agree with you about serving out of the sweetspot). I was upset with this and took my friend's blade 98 18x20 Amplifeel to play a for a while and compare them. When I started to play with blade I could hit hard and had no concerns about balls flying out, so I was playing agressively and with good control. The downside was the small sweetspot. But after that I started to think if was not the case of switching to a Tecnifibre TF40 305 18x20 ou even a speed pro, wich is also 18x20 and are getting excelent reviews. I'm afraid of picking up the speed mp and continue to make the balls flying out the court. But, before considering the change, I'll change the strings to see if it holds the power of ezone a little. Now I'm using Lynx Tour and I'm going to change to Hyper-g.

Solinco confidential 16L plays well in the Ezone 100. I string around 55 LBS

I’m having trouble deciding between those two. Which would be a better blind pick? I have good first flat/slice serve, kick second. Top spin forehand, flat double hander and I like to finish points at the net.

Do you found any harshness / tinny metalic feeling on Speed MP 2022? I have tried Speed MP 360 and 360+, both still have that tinny metallic feeling.

By the way, this is some comparison from TW between Ezone 100 2022 and Speed MP 2022

Speed MP has more control, hit flatter / lower launch angle and more flexibel

Ezone abit more spin / higher launch angle, more power, stiffer but dampened.

Comfort?

Ezone 100 2022 feels comfortable because of dampening but still stiff racket. Speed MP 2022 feels comfortable because of frame flex and some dampening (auxetic). Different approach to comfortable feeling.

I use both racquets and for me the speed MP plays better being more consistent where I need for my game, a better control and spin, having more agility in the net. The Ezone has more power and is great for service and defensive strokes . The Speed Mp 2022 has a great comfort control spin and a moderate ( right amount) power . I use tour bite 1.10 50lbs for the speed and poly tour spin 52 lbs for the Ezone.
If I would choose one , it would be the Speed MP for sure much more balanced in my opinion. Not the best in any attribute but the best overall for my game ( I'm an intermediate player who plays 5 times per week at least) .

How is the feel of Speed MP 2022? Do you find any harsh / metallic feel especially on off center shot?

Not really. I m feeling more as a plush and comfortable stroke, even in off center strokes it is not uncomfortable. I guess the string has an impact in the feeling as well. The Ezone 100 I felt more of a "raw" feeling not uncomfortable just a matter of personal feeling

If you are an intermediate or advanced player who wants to keep the ball in the court great at baseline and at the net with a controllable spin and power allied with comfort and feel, the speed MP 2022 is no doubt a great great option.

Both are very good frames but somehow not sure whether in the same "league", type wise. The Speed is quite balanced as @MarcoM described. Not as much power as the Ezone, more comfortable, this version. also in my case I do not find metallic feel on off center shots, but the same was true in my case for the 360+ MP, I have both. in the case of the first 360 it was less plush let´s say.

To complicate things, the new Prince Tour 100(310g) has similar specs and looks promising. I was going to order the Aux MP but now I'm going to demo the Prince.

anyone with updated feedback on what racket to choose between the speed mp and ez98 ez100?

playing with clash 100 v2 or vc95 (when new balls). 3.5+ player with 1OHBH
VC95 is a good frame but lack power and is not really forgiving
Clash is soft and nice but lack precision.
looking for something in between

If you are going to buy a racquet without trying, I would wait and buy the New Auxetic Radical MP. It was already a great racquet and with the new auxetic technology adding feel & comfort. The Speed Mp and Ezone 100 both great feeling racquets, Speed Mp a little more control in my opinion. If you go Ezone, I like the 98 best.

I just my ezone 98 with hyper G 1.20 @22kg.
Really nice pop and good control. It was good advise to take the 98 instead of the 100. power level and depth is adequate to my game.

The newest Ezone 98 has so much control, and power is there too. It's almost the perfect racket for me, the only issue is the slightly low launch angle.

Only coming here to say that the 2022 Ezone felt like a magic wand until it quickly became the only racket to ever give me wrist pain. I’ve ended up (after many others in between) on the Speed MP 2022 myself and to be honest it feels like the better racket in every aspect. More weight in the tip and less at 3 and 9 gives it plow while feeling whippy. Softer, better feel, better spin. The Ezone was point and shoot at net, but I still prefer the extra feedback of the speed even there. Hope that helps!

For me launch angle didn't feel that much different. Can't say one is better than the other for that type of game, it depends more on personal preferences and what characteristics you value more.
