Head Speed Mp 2022 VS Wilson Clash 100 V1

Hi guys .

I have a Wilson Clash 100 V1. I am considering to change to a Head Speed MP 2022. Anyone who has tried these 2 racquets could tell me which are the main differences?

I am a 4.0 player, defensive baseliner, who basically tries to return every ball with topspin and relies on the opponent making mistakes. I rarely go to the net. My best shot is the topspin forehand.

Thanks!

Imo the main difference is the feel. Both are pretty light, but I found the clash even with full poly to be exceptionally comfortable.

Personally, I prefer the speed. Comfort isn’t important to me personally when picking a racket, and I felt the launch angle and feel of the speed were superior. It’ll be an adjustment though, so I’d recommend demoing and seeing for yourself.

I have the wilson clash 100 V2 & demoed the Speed mp which felt heavier to me & less powered.. of course it could've been the strings regarding the power. I went with clash b/c I had tennis elbow & needed an arm friendly racquet...

Have you played the Speed MP? I'd think the Clash 100 v1 is better for your purposes. I find it almost impossible to hit long or out with a clash unless tension is too high. Speed MP is good though. balance a bit different, good for hitting corners. A demo should make it obvious

Thanks for your answers. I understand that Clash and Speed MP are more or less similar racquets. Clash is more flexible/comfortable but I still dont have tennis elbow issues. I know I will come back to the Clash in a future but at this point of my life I would like to try another thing.

I still don't know if the Speed MP is a more oriented control racquet or however it gives you more power than Clash. What do you think?

The Speed MP came across as more control oriented to me. That said, I didn’t feel like it was so much better than the clash.

If you hit a flatter ball the speed will better (imo), but if you use topspin to control your shots, I think the difference is somewhat negligible.

The power from the clash felt like it was because of the beam, where as the speed felt like it was more about getting its weight into the shot (not that there’s a lot). I felt like I hit the limit of the clash’s power much faster than the speed.

For me and my game, the speed is what I’d go with because it has the best combination of attributes for me. But again, you just have to demo them and see for yourself

I am almost decided to try the Speed MP. Which strings and tension do you recommend? I currently play my Wilson Clash 100 with Volk Cyclone 1.25.

Try the same string and tension so you can compare it with the clash 100. If you like it more with the speed mp you can always try different strings later on…

The Speed MP came across as more control oriented to me. That said, I didn’t feel like it was so much better than the clash.

Finally I bought the Speed Mp. My Clash V1 is more balanced to the grip than the Speed Mp, is that possible? As the Speed Mp is supposed to be more control oriented, should not be the opposite?

Have you hit with them yet?

The speed’s response when hitting is extremely predictable and there’s good feedback. The clash is much more muted and I had difficulty dialing in.

Additionally, the speed performs well when hitting flat and spin while the clash will struggle with flatter shots.

I agree that in maneuverability of the rackets, clash wins, but that’s only one part of control

@ohenhen The Clash in more headlight than the Speed. Look at the balance differences

This is my impression after 5 months playing with the Speed MP 2022:
  • Speed MP is more challenging that the Wilson Clash V1. I would say that the Clash is for medium level players, while Speed MP is for medium level-advanced players.
  • It is easier to generate topspin with the Clash.
  • The Speed MP is more control oriented, and the Clash gives you more easy power.
  • The Clash is more arm friendly. Sometimes after playing wit the Speed MP I have some pain in the elbow. It is nothing significant, but I never had pain with the Clash.
I think that my game can progress more playing with the Speed MP, but I feel safer playing with the Clash. If I am relaxed (i.e. training or playing with a friend), I know that I will play better with the Speed MP, but If I am nervous (tournament) I play easier with the Clash.
