Head Syn Gut vs. Head Syn Gut PPS

Semi-Pro
Stringing my son's LM2 Pro. It came prestrung with Head Synthetic Gut, then I had him try some Leoina 66 that I had laying around. Recently I put some Head RIP Control in for him. He liked the RIP's playability but as I've experienced myself it broke awfully quickly in an OS 16x19.

I'm trying to decide if I should put the RIP back in for him or if I should get some Head Synthetic gut. This frame calls for Head Control strings of which the original Head Syn gut is, but the more common Head Syn Gut PPS is defined to be a Power string.

What is the difference between the two Head Syn Guts? Maybe I'm being naive, but can I use the Syn Gut PPS, Power string in this frame that calls for Control strings? Is this sort of the difference between Prince's Syn Gut and their Duraflex Syn Gut?

Finally, wonder if I should talk him into something like the Babolat Tour Hurricane Pro for the durability?

I tried both strings and according to me the difference is only that the pps string is good for topspin players;you can use normal head synthetic gut for topspin player but the pps is a bit better

Head pps 17 isn't bad given its price.

feel similar to PSGD 17, just breaks a bit earlier and a little little bit softer.

thought the PPS at 17g felt stiff so I strung at 40.....love it with great pocketing.... mellow pop on impact and moderate power....very surprised at a string at such a low price....actually a multifiber with polyaramides around a nylon core....lighter gauge feel very evident.....will try in my foam cored 360 radical "s" stix modded to 11.7 oz

Could you tell me how much you decreased the tension for head pps 17 g compared to other multis yo have used? I would like to give it a try, just to have a reference.... Have you tried the 16g version by chance?

I've used 16 gauge and 17. Black PPS seems to be best -I think it needs to be strung up fairly tight to work well. 17 has much more grip on the ball. I go for 58-60lbs. Does break quickly but nice string while it lasts. P{robably ok if you string your own, use a dense pattern and hit flatter.

Thanks! But compared to velocity black 17g for example? Should I use the same tension as starting reference or decrease?

Ha- a good question. Very different to velocity black in 17- which is another great string, but much less power and more longevity. Are you putting velocity on the mains or crosses? In the mains I would string 50s but ymmv
