No so sure that Nikola’s implementation of the American Twist is really representative of the best Am Twisters of yore. His toss and contact is closer to a modern kick serve toss — too far to the Left.
Take a close look at the toss & contact of the real American Twisters. The vast majority, if not all, contacted the ball more to the Right. Take a look at the twist serves of the following guys. (Also, I believe they were closer to the lateral swing path that Nick described).
