Help: need to reduce grip size - leather grip

Quick question - I've picked up a stick with a size 5: 4 5/8 grip but want ideally want a size 3: 4 3/8

The current grip is a fairway leather - and I need to keep a leather grip for the weight/feel.

Normally, I'd just remove the leather an replace with an overgrip to solve the problme but in this case I can't/don't want to.

Since we are actually only talking 1/4" reduction, I'm wondering if I removed the leather grip and hammered it flat(ter) could I achieve the desired result? Maintaining the feel and weight, whilst reduce the grip size.

Thought please!!!

Thanks in advance

Every half millimeter thickness you shave off is 1 grip size smaller. You're asking for 1mm thickness reduction, which is actually a lot. Head makes thin leather grips. Stretch that baby TIGHT!!!! as you grip it.

Yea, a leather grip's 1.2mm-1.5mm, so you're not going to shave 1 mm off. Nope. No sir. You're going to have to sand down the pallet if you want 3/8.
