I used to use hyper-g 16L gauge at 52lbs in the Wilson blade 98 cv (16x19). I have always used this setup without ever thinking of changing and looking into new strings. After demoing new racquets and switching to the vcore98 (not a fan of countervail) I was wondering if maybe I should look into trying different strings too.

What I’m looking for is something with higher levels of comfort, feel and touch. The power level of hyper-G was right in my wheelhouse. Since I have a stringing machine durability is not too big of an issue but I don’t want them to break really fast. As for price point, under 20$ per racquet.

Willing to try hybrids, different gauges/tensions and strings. Let me know if you have any recommendations!

Give Solinco Revolution a try. In my testing, it is just a hair more powerful, and seems less muted than Hyper-G but also not overly more comfortable. A bunch of Volkl strings - V-Square, V-Torque, V-Torque Tour, Cyclone Tour - are going to be much more comfortable but maybe a bit too powerful. They also have a springier feel than Hyper-G that you may or may not like, but probably that feel and the power can be tamed a bit with higher tensions. Solstice Power is also worth a try.

I also really liked the new Tourna silver 7 tour string as well crossed with a round poly.

I really like this string too but for me it seems pretty powerful, definitely more than Hyper-G, and with a lot more crispness on contact that could feel like less comfort. But definitely worth a try at its price point.

signum pro xperience is quite similar...being softer, it provides more power and comfort. It is also hexagonal so it’s 6 sided and it retains the shape form quite well. As with any poly, it loses tension over time but it is a slow consistent loss and playability of string does not have massive drop off. I use poly hybrid with xperience mains and SPPP crosses since I like smooth round soft low powered string with good tension maintenance enabling good snapback action in mains. There have been various claims that pros pro eruption plays quite similar to xperience at about half the cost but with shorter playability duration.

I just put in Diadem solstice power mains and flash crosses and it’s awesome.

definitely gonna try this...is flash a soft muted low powered poly similar to YPTP or SPPP? also, what gauges/tension did you use and in what racquet? thanks

I have it in a Pro Staff 97CV at 48lbs. I wouldn’t say it’s low powered, maybe medium/low. The feel is tremendous. Both strings are 17g. They had a demo deal on IG two sets for $10. Maybe check that out. I also just tried their evolution as a cross in my ultra tour but don’t like it as much, becomes too sticky/gummy like most syn/multis.

I was a playtester for Diadem Flash a couple of months ago. Here's the playtest thread:

https://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/index.php?threads/diadem-flash.639904/

I'm still strongly considering using Flash in a full bed as our 55+ 9.0 season gets under way. Unfortunately, even though I'm team captain, I'm the 16th best doubles player on our 15 man team. Almost all of the attributes that still make me a competitive player in singles end up hurting me when trying to play proper doubles and Flash has a way of making me give up the parts that are more flashy (pun intended) but also much more error prone. I think I prefer Flash over Proline Evolution because of the confidence the impact feel gives me. It is a soft, more muted and low powered poly with a very slippery surface that I'm pretty sure you will like.

I had a bit of a playtest a while back with a number of popular “soft” strings, e.g tour bite soft, alu power soft, black code (my previous standard) and hyper-g
Hands down hyper-g was the best string, and the most comfortable. I would recommend first try a lower tension before you go down the rabbit hole.

If that doesn’t work then go for for a hybrid with HyperG in the mains and try something like black widow or sonic pro as a cross, both are very soft and the lower power will let you drop tension a little for more confort and feel/pocketing.

If you’re still wanting more comfort then you’ll need to start looking at multis.

Not sure why people are suggesting stiffer polys..

In terms of looking for more comfort, feel, and touch, you might get the boost you want with a lighter gauge of the same string in your mains. I'm not a poly player, but I've always preferred the feel and touch of a lighter gauge string when I can manage it. I often string my own frames with synthetic gut and a 17 ga. option is often the string that I like for my all-court game (better feel and touch around the net). The one downside with the 17 ga. syn. gut can be its tendency to drastically soften up when it gets really hot in the middle of the summer. That's when I can do much better with a 16 ga. version of that string.

If you already have a stash of 16L Hyper-G, maybe get a set or two of a lighter gauge and try that as a main while keeping the 16L as a cross.

signum pro Xperience is a softer version of hyperG, id definitely give that a try

Why not try a full bed of 1.20 version of the Hyper-G at the same tension??? I did that just to see how it felt in my Prestige Pro's. I liked it a lot. It felt a bit softer and more powerful than the 1.25 version but with similar control. As hard as I try I can't find a better string for my game than the hideous green Hyper-G.

Try Pro's Pro Eruption 1.24.

Hyper G in a thinner gauger (1.20mm or below).. It's actually my string of choice. Also I have been trying Kirschbaum Pro Line Evolution 17 and it's really good, a little bit more powerfull and bit less spin potencial but confort and tension maintenance are great!

I will probably try it, but maybe in the 1.24 gauge because the negative reports about the playability duration of this string. What do you recommend?

Also, how do you compare it to Hyper G and X-perience in terms of feel, spin, playability duration and durability?

Thank you

Man, playability duration is really close. X-p or HG will play maybe 2 or 3 hours better... Never much.
And a reel of Eruption is 27€...!!
TRY IT. That's better than talking for nothing. ;)

I ask just because it's hard to find here in Brazil, and not that cheap so it is not worth that much haha

But I'll probably order from some website in Europe and wait 30 days to get it  haha

Thanks anyway
