Help! Wilson Hammer 6.2-H6 comparison?

Hi, I know everybody here uses only Prostaff 6.0 85, POG 93, RD7 or Prestige etc so feel awkward to ask about racquets with '107 size+Hammer' brand...but

I am considering buying a wilson Hammer 6.2 or H6 Oversize for my beginner brother. I myself play Wilson Surge 5.1, POG OS, Ti radical OS but I figured wilson hammer Skunks seem to have good power and excellent spin potential, probably good choice for him. I've played Original Skunk Hammer 6.2 (felt heavier, more power, solid) and the newest model H6 (feels lighter, fast at net but slightly less stable-somehow more flexible). I haven't really played Hyper hammer 6.2 but it seems quite stable, comfortable. I just don't like its design (H6 is the best IMO). All has very good spin potential. Can anyone compare these three? What about Hyper 5.3 and 6.3? Thanks in advance. Any information will help!

I only have experiences with the midplus (95) versions of the frames you mention, but the closest frame in feeling to an original Hammer 6.2 is the Hyper Hammer 6.3, with the H6 and Hyper Hammer 6.2 in a distant second and third, respectively. I think the Hyper Hammer 6.3 was the last frame in the "skunk lineage" to incorporate a significant amount of fiberglass into the frame, which gave the original Hammer 6.2 its unique feel. Keep in mind that I have only tested the midplus versions of these frames, but the same scenario may exist with the oversize versions. Hope this helps...

can you describe the feel of fiberglass (I know this is an absurd request...)? I've tested it for a couple of sets a while ago (Original Hammer 6.2). I felt it solid and powerful. I haven't tried Hyper 6.2. H6 feels more flexible IMO. Maybe it's because of string. I bought a used H6 strung (feels like lower tension). Want my bro to start with better one. I only began to play in 2001 so I missed 99-00 scene. Thanks!

Fiberglass provides a flexy and dampened feel. I think the string setup in your H6 might be contributing to your "flexy" perception because I found the H6 to be stiff and brittle compared to either the original 6.2 or Hyper Hammer 6.3. For arm safety reasons, I would go with either the Hammer 6.2 original or the Hyper Hammer 6.3. Again, my experiences are with the midplus versions, not the oversize versions.

Just one more quesiton. 6.2 & 6.3 are quite close numbers. It seems you have tried both. What was the difference of concept between 6.2 and hyper hammer 6.3? There must have been some different purpose or target customers to sell them. Thanks again.

The specs of the two frames are similar because the Hyper Hammer 6.3 was the replacement for the original Hammer 6.2.

The only major difference I can think of is the frame composition. The Hammer 6.2 was 60% graphite / 40% fiberglass. The Hyper Hammer 6.3 is 60% graphite / 30% fiberglass / 10% hypercarbon. Wilson likely introduced the frame to promote the hypercarbon material, which is designed to increase stiffness while still being light.

For a beginner I recommend the 6.2 Oversize. I started with that racquet and it is extremely solid. I have recently switched to a Mid-Plus H6, but the 6.2 is much easier to swing for a beginner. The OS might seem a little bit like a launching pad at first, but it can generate great topspin. The 6.2 is mediocre at net, great at the baseline. The H6 is good at net, and good for an experienced baseliner. In short, I think the H6 is a more advanced racquet than the 6.2, but both of these are great racquets.

Baseline basher, did you mean original 6.2 or hypercarbon 6.2 by '6.2'? It seems original skunk is still quite popular. I've purchased one on from **** a year ago but gave it to a friend of mine.

i would go w/ the hyper hammer 6.3 or the original skunk 6.2. those 2 felt the best imo. the fiberglass makes it feel comfortable. the hh6.3 was just the next iteration of the 6.2 w/ the addition of hypercarbon. i didn't like the hh6.2 or h6 at all.

Another design of HH 6.3

Hi,

I just saw a pic of Hyper hammer 6.3. It's totally different from the design of HH6.3 TW is selling. It has yellow patches on 3, 9 direction and overall black body. Are you familiar with this?
