Help with adding lead tape

I'm currently using Wilson blade 98L 16x19 with 4 points HL and I want to add a bit weight to it. If I add 2 grams of lead tape to each side of the racquet (3 and 9), about how many grams should I add to the handle without changing the balance? And where on the handle should I put the lead tape? Thanks

If you add mass above the balance point and want to add mass below the balance point the mass times the distance should be the same on both side of the balance point. Say your balance point were 32 cm from the butt and 3&9 is 52 cm from the butt. If you add 4 g 20 cm above the balance you need to 4 g 20 cm below the balance point at 12 cm from the butt. Or 8 g 10 cm below the balance point or 2.67 g 30 cm below the balance point.

The question is why would you want to keep the balance point the same. That is a bad idea IMO. If you like the feel of a 325 g racket with a balance of 32 cm what makes you think you will like the feel of a 330+ g racket with the same balance? Seems to me if you want a heavier racket you would want a lower balance point.

My initial thought was to add weight to the 3 and 9 to for stability but that would make the racquet head heavy. I want to keep it HL so I would have to add weight to the handle to counterbalance.

Short answer is yes. But adding weight at 3&9 won’t give you as much stability as many think. If your racket has a radius in the center of 13 cm, you adding 4 g gives you about 0.67 Kgcm to the TW of your racket and about 7 points to the SW. as long as the lead is there that inertia will be there. Counterbalancing that additional weight may get you back to the same balance but everything else is different. If you wanted additional stability you got it putting the lead at 3&9 why counterbalance?

Starting from the last question, the easiest place to put weight on the handle is inside the butt cap.
All you have to do is to open the cap and stuck some weight eg. a small coin, stable in it.

About weight and balance: if you want to keep the same "starting feel" and "moving easiness" of your racquet you have to make it more head light, as Irvin also said. When you add 4g on the 9-3 you raise the sw aprpox. 7 points, meaning the "old" 314 is now 321... In order to have the same quickness of the racquet's head, you have to add 4-6g in the butt cap.

Many ways to do this
as mentioned, you need to know your starting point..
get yourself or diy, a racquet balance board..

Lead tape is easy to use

one of my recent experiments that worked better than expected,, was adding weight on handle..
The racquet was foam filled on handle (important for this case), soo I removed buttcap trap door and used 2x 3" wood screws, screwed in one on each channel of the handle, this gave me the HL balance I wanted..
if your racquet does not have a buttcap trap door! or if the handle is not foam filled,, youll need to use other simpler methods! Such as, using lead tape under the racquet grips..

use the search feature on this site,, many entries youll find interesting on this topic..
