Help with crank tensioner

I bought a used Czech Tension stringing machine with a crank tensioner. I used it yesterday for the first time and everything went relatively well considering it was my first time using the machine.

I tried to start stringing another racket today, and the tensioner isn't pulling tension on the string whatsoever. I placed the starting clamps in the correct place at the head of the frame on the opposite main, fed the string around the knob on the tensioner and into the clamp on the tensioner. But then when I try to pull tension on the string, it goes all the way to the end of the track and doesn't pull the string at all.

Does anyone have any idea why this could have all of a sudden gotten messed up like that? Thanks in advance.

What does the gripper look like? The problem is most likely there. Check to see that the ball bearings are sliding once the string gets between them. If not, the gripper won't tighten and won't clamp the string. There may be a little knob or screw with a spring next to the gripper, so adjust that (tighten) and see if it helps.

Thanks for the help. That's what it was in combination with the starting clamp being too loose on the string. Strange considering everything was fine the day before though. Oh well, thanks again for your help.
