Help with HL

Hey guys

I just bought 2 new Ezones 100 Plus on TW. I’m moving away from the previous gen Ezone 98 + because I wanted a similar racquet but more forgiving.

the racquets are matched to following STRUNG specs, no overgrip.

Weight 317 , Balance 2 HL , 340 SW

Based on my previous experience with the EZ 98 Plus, I’m fine with the weight and okay with the SW (albeit I wouldn’t mind a few lower SW points).

However, when it comes to the balance, I’d definitely like to bring it to 4-5 HL, without increasing the swingweight.. so I know I could achieve some gains on the strings but I’d rather not mess with my preferred strings setup.

Could I achieve this replacing the original grip by a specific grip that I could buy, plus the normal Yonex overgrip ? Really need your expert advice on this…

Thanks!

Only practical way to go more head light is adding mass to the handle. It will have negligible effects on SW. Only way to reduce SW is to remove mass from the hoop. What is your string setup? Let’s say it is TB 17. Try TB 17 in mains and TB 18 in crosses or any poly in 18 ga. Use same tensions as before.

Full bed of Lynx Tour 1.25… so better is to add mass to the handle and not really rely on new grips etc ?

if your goal is to lower balance point by adding the least mass possible, you want to concentrate at the end of the handle rather than all across the handle

You could just change to a heavier grip and see what that does. You could end up more HL than you want. Try taping quarters to the butt cap and trial swing. If you can’t get to what you want, then change grips. IIRC, the difference between 17 and 18 is about 2 grams(?), so using a thinner cross will decrease SW by ~3 units.

the Yonex base grip is already on the thin side, so if you add a different one, then it may throw off your grip sizing...
best to keep the Yonex base grip and Yonex OG as is and add the additional weight via the trap door. this should give you too much "noticeable" increase in SW points.

Add tungsten weight to the bottom of handle under the trap door... that's the fastest and most effective way to get the HL balance up a few point with the least amount of increase to the static weight overall. You can use cotton ball material to help keep the tungsten in place so it doesn't move around when your'e swinging the racquet.

Also you should know that that Lynx Tour is a very heavy string. If you go with something else like a Yonex PTP or Polytour rev... it will be lighter and that change also might get you a point more of HL balance.

PTP , Spin, Rev or Strike for a similar-ish ? 17g or 18g?

Polytour Rev would be closer to Lynx Tour since it's and 8 edged poly. I don't know what gauge your Lynx Tour you are using, but be aware that Head calls their 1.25mm Lynx Tour 17ga, probably because they don't have a 16L. For most mfg's it's 16ga is 1.30mm, 16L 1.25mm and 17ga is 1.20mm... and that's what it is for Yonex. Going with a thinner gauge will also help reduce weight in the head so you might want to try the Yonex 17ga (1.20mm). Be aware also that the thinner string at the same tension will play with more power than a thicker string. Another option would Solinco HyperG which is also an edged shaped poly.

I've been playing for a year or so with VS 17 / LT 17 at 56/53 on my EZ 98+ ... I crave more forgiveness , whilst maintaining the power of the extended racquet. Hence the move to EZ 100+ and then moving away from gut mains... was recommended to go for LT 17 as it was familiar but strung at 48 lbs.... which I'm happy to try BUT... the fundamental change on HL (HL 5 on Ezone 98+ vs HL 2 on Ezone 100+ ... with no overgrip yet... is making me slightly apprehensive...

Lighter string and maybe 2-3g in the butt of the handle and I would think you should be able to get to 4 possibly 5 pts HL without too much change in the static weight. Weight in the butt does little to change swing weight.

Right so on my new EZ 100 Plus which is a 16x19 powerful frame, which full bed delivers best comfort, control and tension maintenance/durability , not lowering HL, on the contrary
