Help with routine

Hey guys, looking for some help creating a workout routine. I'm a 5.0 college player and its clear my fitness needs to improve if i want to get to the next level. I'm not in horrible shape but I am definitely behind most people at the level I want to play at. I'm 5'11 and 165 and run a mile in about 6:45. I have access to a gym and track and was planning on working out about 3 or 4 times a week for an hour each session but have no idea how to spend that time. I'm not looking to improve in any specific area but just to get stronger, faster and in overall better shape for tennis. If anyone with knowledge on the subject could help me create a workout routine and also suggest what I should be eating (especially what type of protein shake or bars i should be buying?) it would greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have some general advice. I'm more a fan of sprint training than distance work. I advise doing a day of on field sprint interval training. Jez Green has Andy Murray do this to develop his fitness base. Warmup and then do short sprints at close to full effort with a set rest period in between sprints. This will build strength and provide a measure of endurance.

I'd suggest also doing a day of weight lifting or medicine ball training. You want to strengthen your whole body.

I don't have a lot of knowledge about protein bars and shakes. Both are inferior to real food, but their main advantage is that they are very easy to prepare as a supplement. Consume these shortly after a workout but make certain to keep eating a balanced diet and getting plenty of rest.

conditioning won't give you skill. If you really want to hit the gym you should do resistance band rotator cuff exercises in both directions.
Why would anyone ever eat a power bar or protein shake? Eat natural food and play more tennis. Getting in the gym won't turn you into a 6.0, being on the court will.
