'Tiger' is playing a blinder: 6-5 up in 1st set....Nadal struggling with the S&V!!!
Nah - he's blown it!!
Nadal 7-6, 1st set.
darn. =[ despite being an american, it's fun to root for henman. plus, our own s/ver isn't all that great >_>
Nadal's getting a good read on Henman's 1st serve now...
Nadal, 7-6, 3-1 on-serve...
Nadal 7-6 6-1 Henman
Nadal blew Henman away in the 2nd....his serve looks to have really improved too, 8 aces and getting up to 130+mph.
Nadal's about to close this one out in the 2nd set, up 4-1.
Shame, I was just beginning to get on Henman's side... His balls were just sailing so long today! Otherwise he was looking good. Unfortunate not to be able to convert the 40-0 lead into a break in the third game in the second set. Also one really bad line call against him when he served an ace. Would have been 40-40. After some dispute, they repeated the point and Nadal took the game 50-15. A bit unlucky today...
This is another great example of an attribute that Nadal has, that he shares with other top champion players.
He was down 5-6 in the first. What did he do? What he had to and broke. He does things like this all the time. He did it several times in Marseille until he faced Clement. Most important thing is that he beats almost all the players he should beat as a #2 player unlike some others out there (Hewitt, Roddick, Safin, Agassi).
Cant wait to see him play Fed in the final. Should be a good one.
Nadal gets underestimated sometimes. People think all he has is great speed and tenacity and huge spin. But he also has the ability to create pace from nowhere and hit winners, and most importantly that ability to almost ALWAYS win, even if he's playing badly. Only he and Federer have that, so this final will be the most interesting match-up of the year so far.
Yes, I noticed a perceptible improvement in his serve too. That helped him to outplay Henman in the 2nd. I like Henman a lot, but when Nadal raised his level of play, he showed that he was just much stronger.
Yes, it was a really bad call. The Henman's ace was VERY clearly valid.
Wow! 81% serve percentage, 8 aces, and 1 double fault is EXCELLENT numbers for Nadal over 2 sets. I have not seen him play this year, but he must have been working on his serve while he was 'immobilized'. Maybe the injury will actually help him!
In fact, looking at just the second set, Nadal's #s are just scary. I dont know, maybe Henman just gave up.
He did save match point vs Rochus in the first round of Marseille with an ace...
So who is your favorite on an eventual Nadal/Federer final?
That's very tough but I'll take Federer just because he just won a Grand Slam and has had plenty of match play. Nadal is coming off an injury. However, Nadal is obviously playing great...but if there is ANY rust in his game like there was in the first set with Henman, he's out. Damn, that's hard, because Federer also hasn't been playing his best. I'll still pick him.
Federer will win.
Nadal will win
Its got to be Fed!
WE are all winners when these 2 play, both wonderful athletes. I did like that Fed was asked who he wanted to play, Rafa or Rainer and he said Nadal.
