Here's the thing. You said Federer is a GOAT “candidate."
Is he? Yes. No one's arguing that.
As someone who is a scientist who studies tennis, I am telling you, specifically, in science, no one calls Federer a candidate. If you want to be "specific" like you said, then you shouldn't either. They're not the same thing.
If you're saying "candidate" you're referring to the pleb grouping of journey men, which includes names from Djokovic to Nadal to Sampras.
So your reasoning for calling Federer a GOAT “candidate” is because random people "call Nadal GOAT?" Let's get Ferrer and Istomin in there, then, too.
Also, calling someone a GOAT or a BOAT? It's not one or the other, that's not how tennis works. They're both. Federer is the GOAT and a member of the All England Tennis Club. But that's not what you said. You said Federer is a candidate, which is not true unless you're okay with calling all members of the candidate family GOATs, which means you'd call Benneteau, Robredo, and Berdych GOATs, too. Which you said you don't.
It's okay to just admit you're wrong, you know?
